Diamond Mountain, Sonoma County, Napa Valley, California, United States, WINE

Buy wines from the United States at Woodland Hills Wine Co.

Just west of the more famous Napa Valley lie the wine-growing regions of Sonoma County, California's largest AVA and home to numerous sub-AVAs. The Sonoma Coast AVA, and it's sub-AVAs of Fort-Ross Seaview, Russian River Valley, and Green Valley produce world-class Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Syrah, while the hotter climates of Knight's Valley and Alexander Valley, including the Dry Creek and Rockpile AVAs, produce some of the best Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon in California. Due to its sheer size, no other wine region in the U.S. encompasses such a wide variety of landscapes and micro-climates.

The yin to Napa's yang, Sonoma County is a quiet, agrarian region where orchards once dominated the scene. There is very little, if any, of the pomp and circumstance of Napa to be found in Sonoma County. It's three main sub-AVAs, Northern Sonoma, Sonoma Mountain, Sonoma Coast and Sonoma Valley all boast distinct terroir, but all three also share a kindred air of laid back relaxation.
