92 points Wine Advocate: "Sourced from vines planted in 1923 above the town of Clarendon, the 2016 Clandestine Vineyards #1 Grenache aged just six months in old French hogsheads. The result is a strawberry and currant-scented wine with hints of dried spices and earth. It's medium to full-bodied but never seems heavy or rich, instead having a lively, silky feel on the palate and a bright, irrepressibly vibrant finish. Impressive! Drink: 2018-2023. (Jan 2019)" -Joe Czerwinski
Producer notes: "100% Grenache. This wine boasts a bright magenta color with the nose showing spicy red berry fruit with underlying gravelly, loamy characters. The palate is vibrant, revealing cherries and five spice, but as the wine opens in the glass these develop into darker, wild fruits which dance across the mid-palate. The finish is long with a touch of toasty, soft oak tannin. 14.5% alcohol."
