98 points (19/20) La Revue du Vin de France: "Sober, introduced by an uncommon depth of sap, Clos des Lambrays unfurls with very fine, noble vegetal touches from the whole harvest. It reveals with ease the link between the floral and eminently earthy dimensions of this great terroir. Its glorious future is assured! (2020)"

95 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The 2017 Clos des Lambrays was still quite youthful, but was showing truly stunning potential on both the nose and palate. The bouquet is still fairly primary, but sports outstanding depth and nascent complexity in its constellation of cassis, black cherries, sweet dark berries, exotic touches of both eucalyptus and lavender, a superb base of soil, heather and a sound foundation of cedary new oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and suave on the attack, with sappy core, excellent soil signature, fine-grained tannins and a long, closed and classy finish. The oak component here is beautifully done and there are absolutely no issues with the wine’s ultimate balance, but I had the sensation that it was clamping down on the wine a bit more than was customary for Clos des Lambrays as this point in its evolution. Perhaps it was just my imagination, as the wine will no doubt be absolutely superb in the fullness of time. 2027-2085. (Nov/Dec 2018)"

95 points Tim Atkin, MW (Decanter): "Produced from what is nearly a monopole grand cru - Domaine Taupenot-Merme owns 0.004ha - Clos des Lambrays is always marked by its 90% whole bunches, but the style is very well done in 2017 under new cellarmaster, Boris Champy. With 50% new wood framing the palate, this is subtle, nuanced and focussed, with polished tannins and bright acidity. Drinking Window: 2025-2035. (Oct 2018)"

95 points Bruce Sanderson (Wine Spectator): "[$337 list] Sandalwood and cardamom aromas signal this cherry and black currant-flavored red. It's sleek and underlined by a graphic element that, along with the vibrant structure, drives the dense, powerful finish. Best from 2023 through 2040. 165 cases imported. (5/31/21)"

94 points Fine Wine Review: "2017 was the last vintage that Thierry Brouin was responsible for (and Boris Champy worked with him on it). The nose is still dominated by oak, and possibly some reduction. The mouth is silky and pure with spicy red fruits. It is medium-weight with freshness, but not a ripe, dense, or deep as the 2018; instead it is more a vintage of finesse. (12/13/19)"

19/20 points Richard Hemming, MW (JancisRobinson.com): "Leafy, autumnal and complex, with soy and liquorice and a toasted, smoky finish. Fibrous tannin, pure fruit, excellent length. It's not floral, but there is an elegance here. Superbly persistent – just doesn't quit. Excellent expressiveness, this has the magic of burgundy. Drinking Window: 2020-2040. (3/25/22)"

Bill Nanson (Burgundy Report): "(90% stems, 50% new oak from François Frères.) Perfumed, more silky, though a slightly less overt nose. Hmm, this has such width and then melting, flavour, more overt oak, but this is a wine with beautiful shape and fine texture. A faint caramel from the oak today. Excellent! (Jul 2018)"
