95 points James Suckling: "Extremely aromatic with strawberry, citrus and stone character. Dried mushroom too. Medium to full body, silky and refined tannins. Lively and tight. A beauty. Drink now or hold. (5/23/17)"

93 points and 'Cellar Selection,' Wine Enthusiast: "The fruit for this wine has come from the same block of the site since 2009. Winemaker James Hall shows his ability to coax brambly flavor from a complexity of ginger spice, chocolate and generous tannin, managing to retain enough acidity to add a youthful freshness that's memorable on the finish. Drink now through 2024. Alcohol 14.2%. (Oct 2016)"

92 points Robert Parker: "Run by noted vineyard and winery owner Bill Price, Patz & Hall Winery utilizes fruit from the well-known Gap’s Crown Vineyard in the foothills of Sonoma Mountain above the Petaluma Wind Gap. The 2014 Pinot Noir Gap’s Crown Vineyard has a deep ruby/purple color, plenty of forest floor, underbrush, pomegranate, red and black cherries, savory cola and other earthy notes. Cocoa is also present in this medium to full-bodied, beautifully textured, rich wine that should age nicely for up to 8-10 years. Production is about 950 cases. Drink: 2016-2026. (Apr 2016)"

91 points and 'Very highly recommended,' PinotFile: "Medium-light to medium ruby; initially tight in the aroma, though it opened and developed attractive, deep, earthy, cherry fruit aromatics; medium-full body; tight, textured, cherry fruit flavors that show some richness and depth, though tending to be a bit lean on the finish; medium to medium-full tannin; lingering aftertaste. Deserves a few more years of bottle aging. 14.2% alcohol; 950 cases; released March 2016. (Sep 2016)"

Producer notes: "The more this spectacular vineyard matures, the more dramatic its wines become. Though somewhat brooding at first, the nose quickly opens up to reveal mesmerizing layers of dark chocolate, damp earth, porcini mushroom, cherry, plum and dried cranberry. On the palate, this mix of savory and sweet elements continues, gaining depth and momentum as the wine reveals itself in evermore-nuanced layers. Gliding to a long, flowing conclusion, the dense tannins and robust structure turn silky and smooth, providing a memorable finish."
