92 points and 'Top Value,' Allen Meadows (Burghound): "(exclusively from 1er fruit). A more restrained nose reluctantly offers up a bit more deeply pitched nose of violet, plum and anise hints. The sleek, delicious and beguilingly vibrant medium weight flavors culminate in a dusty, complex and sneaky long finish. While this is labeled as a villages, it performs at a 1er level. Drink: 2024+. (Apr 2019)"
90-93 points Fine Wine Review: "This wine is declassified young vines, mostly from Santenots with a little from Champans included, too. The wine is light, airy, and smooth with good density and precise red fruits. (12/17/18)"
91 points Neal Martin (Vinous): "The 2017 Volnay Village includes some declassified Santenots and Champans fruit. It has a very pretty bouquet of raspberry and wild strawberry scents, just a touch of undergrowth developing with time. The medium-bodied palate offers supple tannin and fine acidity. Elegant and suave, with a fleshy, persistent finish that is perhaps not quite as compelling as the 2018, but has wonderful sheer drinkability. Drink: 2021-2036. (Jan 2020)"
91 points Jasper Morris, MW (Inside Burgundy): "This comes from young plantings (1997 and 2002) in Volnay Santenots along with a bit of 30 year old Champans, so it is all in fact from 1er cru terroir. This is quite beautiful with a sense of density. This fills the mouth, excellent texture, the aromatics flood back behind. The Comtes Lafon Volnay, when it is made, is a wine of huge appeal that paves the way for the premiers crus to follow. Tasted: October 2018."
