95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2015 Foothills Reserve is 100% Syrah from the estate vineyard located around the winery. It’s one of the more tight and reserved in the lineup, yet has tons of potential. Ripe red and black fruits, spice, smoked game, tapenade, and peppery notes all emerge from this full-bodied, rich, concentrated Syrah that has sweet tannin and moderate acidity. Give it a year or two and enjoy over the following decade. Drink: 2018-2028. (4/5/18)"

95 points James Suckling: "Lots of blackberries, smoked meat and black-pepper character. Full-bodied, layered and very intense. Love the spices and dark fruits at the end, which is also combined with black chocolate and grilled meat. Drink or hold. (8/22/19)"

95 points International Wine Report: "The 2015 'Foothills Reserve' Syrah is another stunning wine from Matt Reynvaan in this vintage. This Syrah was aged in 30% French oak prior to bottling and results in a gorgeous wine with deep core, showing off captivating aromas of black cherry preserves, iron, orange rind, Asian spices, black olives all taking shape in the glass. The texture is absolutely stunning, as the wine glides effortlessly along the palate leaving flavors of black tea, black blood orange, olive tapenade, cigar box, black cherry pie as well as wild blackberry pie. This has marvelous range and is drinking beautifully at this juncture, nonetheless will also have a bright future ahead. Best 2017-2027. (Aug 2017)"

94 points Wine Spectator: "Impeccably polished and structured, with vivid raspberry and smoky pepper beef aromas that open to elegantly layered cherry, sweet anise and black olive flavors. Drink now through 2024. 425 cases made. (5/31/18)"

93 points Stephen Tanzer (Vinous): "(14.2% alcohol): Dark ruby. Wonderfully deep, complex yet brooding aromas of blackberry, black raspberry, duck fat, smoked meat and fruity black peppercorn; smells like a butcher shop. Wonderfully dense, savory wine with a seamless texture and little easy sweetness. There's lurking dark berry fruit here but today the wine is dominated by its salty meaty qualities and an earthy suggestion of mushroom. The slowly rising, very long finish features serious horizontal tannins and plenty of supporting fruit. Drink: 2019-2025. (Oct 2017)"
