95.5 points Jim Murray's Whiskey Bible: "So soft, so teasing, you might have to go to a local university and pick up some kind of aroma detector to aid your nose: Turkish delight and distant banana lead the sweeter elements while lime chews and lemon-drizzled lychee leads the fruit. Even the drier vanilla tones are only half-hearted, as this entire scene is played out in whispers and innuendo. The delivery is so soft, you can hardly detect its landing: I could give a plethora of varying tones, some being barely audible to the taste buds. But, really, it is the understated effect which counts so importantly. It took me three hours to confirm a slight degree of sulphur. That is because I nosed and tasted alonside the XXV for comparison, and that, too, had creeping sulphur: it is not immediately detectable, as it is in relatively low amounts. A shame--this might have been one of the top three whiskies of the year... Possibly the most delicate whisky of this and many years: a kind o' Ballantine's 17, but in single malt form... ABV: 43%.
