Rendezvous Rye is a blend of two exotic straight rye whiskies: one old, and one young. It marries the rich aromatic qualities of a 16-year-old rye with the bold spicy properties of 6-year-old rye to create a full flavored, very complex whiskey. The 6-year-old boasts an uncommonly high 95% rye mash bill. Almost every other straight rye whiskey you can buy today is barely legal, with 51-53% rye in the mash bill. Not Rendezvous Rye. Usually with fare like this I look for a nice, big red, but given the SoCal heat, I whipped up a batch of my famous (in my circle of friends) Old Fashioned, made with what is hands-down one of my favorite rye whiskeys out there, High West Distillery's Rendezvous Rye. A blend of two exotic straight rye whiskeys, the first a straight 6-year-old and the second a straight 16-year-old, this killer combination showcases undertones of honey, cinnamon, caramel, and a touch of oak on the nose. On the palate, this bold, canela-laden rye pops with vanilla, brown sugar, crème brûlée, and a hint of smoky wood. The Rendezvous Rye Old Fashioned cocktail, grilled meats, and great friends was a perfect recipe for an amazing night.
