Valduero Yunquera Albillo Blanco Castilla y León 2012

Spain - White

$ 14.95

Out Of Stock

Best known as a producer of excellent red wines, Bodegas Valduero also makes one white wine from a little known grape called Albillo. Just 2% of the estate vineyards at Bodegas Valduero are planted to Albillo. Yunquera is made from 100% Albillo fermented in stainless steel and allowed to rest on its lees to give the wine weight and textural richness. It displays citrus blossom aroma with additional notes of fresh green herbs, petrol and bees wax on a firm mineral foundation. A perfect white wine for cooler weather and richer meals.

WHWC Staff Notes: "I was browsing the Spanish section when I came across this very unique and interesting white wine from Castilla y León. A little known grape, Albillo, is grown mostly in and around the area of Ribera del Duero, Rueda, and Toro. In a region more renown for the white grape Verdejo (used to make the whites from Rueda), Albillo produces an interesting alternative, as the wines tend to have a slightly richer consistency. Sometimes used as a blending grape in Galicia, Valduero prefers to produce a 100% pure Albillo. On its own, Albillo is more pure, aromatic, rich, and tropical. This is exactly what I picked up when I opened it last weekend to ease my thirst. Serve this food friendly wine at your next summer get together, or as an aperitif. This obscure little bottle was rated 90 points in the International Wine Cellar, so the secret might be out of the bag. Try something new and open your mind to some unique grapes for summer. Highly Recommended." - Daniel Herrera, 4/11/14
