19/20 (96) points Decanter: "A mineral quality heightens the sensation of acid and tannin. Colour and light delivered by ripe raspberry and blueberry fruit that does not feel sweet. There is a sappy note, as well as pink grapefruit and black pepper. A wine to decant before drinking. Drink: 2013-2013. Alcohol 12.5%. (Feb 2013)"
This producer is located in the Carso (aka Karst) region of Friuli in northeast Italy along the Slovenian border. The Terrano (aka Teran) varietal is a close relative of the Refosk grape and is grown exclusively in the Karst area. The reddish soil rich in iron enhances the particular characteristics of this wine and renders it unique. Dark ruby-red in color, its aroma is similar to forest fruits (blackberries, raspberries and blueberries in particular). It goes well with game, meat and prosciutto.
