Born in Taiwan, Mountford's winemaker C.P. Lin, lost his sight due to carcinoma of the retina at the age of two. In the 1980s at age 13 he and his family migrated to New Zealand. Speaking five languages (English, Mandarin, Taiwanese, French and German), C.P. also achieved a degree in mathematics from the University of Canterbury and a degree in Wine Science from Lincoln University. With his photographic memory and amazing ability to recall wines from all over the world, C.P's love of wine shines through in his masterpieces. Through his dedication to perfection, Mountford wines are highly regarded by many and have developed an international following. Using the traditional Burgundian method within the winery, the fruit is openly fermented, followed by cold maceration prior to spending 16 months in French oak. This allows the wines to fully develop their finely tuned and well-balanced flavors.
Mountford's "Village" Pinot Noir is made from declassified estate and selected fruit from neighboring contract growers. It is crimson color with ruby going to brick red hue. Fine velvety tannins on a linear structure backed by sweet primary fruit characters. A wine for easy drinking while having classic Pinot flavors. A drink now wine with potential to age for a couple of years.
