94 points and 'Editors' Choice,' Wine Enthusiast: "Dry, smooth and distinguished. Shows Mondavi's ability to get the grapes ripe in blackberries and currants, yet the fruit pulls back at the last moment, letting earthy, herbal notes take over, providing complexity and endless pleasure. The tannins are pure Oakville--sweet, soft and supple. Drink this elegant, balanced wine over the next six years. abv: 14.5%. (Jun 2012)"
90 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "($55 list; blended with 8% cabernet franc, 5% petit verdot, 3% merlot and 1% malbec; aged in 75% new oak for 18 months): Good bright ruby. Complex nose offers plum, black cherry, graphite, flowers, menthol and cedary oak. Nicely fleshy but not at all muscular, with a juicy, penetrating character to the cassis, licorice, cedar and spice flavors. An elegantly styled cabernet with firm but smooth tannins, from a vintage that winemaker Genevieve Janssens describes as 'cold.' (May 2012)"
Producer notes: "When Tim Mondavi describes his Cabernet Sauvignon wines from the Oakville region of Napa Valley, he admires their powerful flavors and muscular tannins, but he most loves their elegance and the way they coat one’s palate with velvet. Oakville is distinguished by an alluvial fan extending from the base of the Mayacamas Mountains that form the valley’s western border. The Oakville bench, which lies against the hills, has well-drained soils that allow deep rooting and the development of complex flavors in the grapes. We selected all Oakville bench vineyards for this wine, including 82% from Robert Mondavi’s historic To Kalon Vineyard."
