Producer notes: "The honey for this specialty dessert-style wine is produced in hives throughout Northern California. It is composed of a blend of three types of honey: alfalfa, sage and orange blossom. Each type brings a unique quality to the blend and contributes to the overall complexity of the Mead. Alfalfa is neutral in flavor but yields a dark, amber color. The orange blossom brings a floral bouquet to the nose of the wine. Sage brings subtle nuances into the blend. This wine is produced utilizing fresh honey without the addition of artificial flavorings, concentrates or artificial colorings. The use of pure, raw honey contributes to the intense, fresh flavors of this natural product. Although this wine exhibits richness similar to a fine liquor, this dessert-style beverage contains only 11% alcohol. This wine should be consumed shortly after purchase to enjoy its natural and rich honey flavor. The mead can be enjoyed in one of two ways, either chilled or heated with spices to create a delicious wintry drink."

Robert Parker: "[$36 list] Yes, there is some Tempranillo to be found in the Paso Robles area. Taking a page out of Spain’s winemaking Bible, this winery has produced a 2007 Tinto de Paso from 100% Tempranillo. The wine is very good, dark ruby-colored with lots of earthy blue and red fruits, medium to full body, with some rustic tannins in the finish... a tasty Tempranillo to drink over the next 4-5 years. (Aug 2010)"

Producer notes: "The 2008 Elk Cove Vineyards Pinot Gris starts out with sweet and unctuous aromatics while showing crispness on the palate with citrus and grapefruit. True to Elk Cove Vineyards’ style, a rich mouthfeel leads to a full and satisfying balanced finish. Drink this lovely white wine as an aperitif or with a variety of food pairings from salmon and main-course salads to Asian and Thai influenced dishes."

Emanuel Tres is a new project from Chris Keller, formerly of Paige 23 winery.
Producer notes: "2009 Emanuel Tres 'Blanco' is a blend in the style of Catalunya, featuring wines made from grapes from Santa Barbara Highlands Vineyard in the Cuyuma Valley of eastern Santa Barbara County. The hot, arid conditions during daytime hours and the cool, breezy nights combine for intense fruit components balanced with terrific acidity providing structure and crispness on the palate. Fermented in stainless steel and made with no secondary fermentation, this wine jumps out of the glass with fresh minerality, exotic aromatics and depth of fruit. Young and vibrant, this wine is drinking very well now, and will have tremendous aging potential due to natural acidic structure and balance. 80% Grenache Blanc, 10% Viognier, 10% Roussanne. 200 cases produced."

The 2009 Tradition Red is a blend of 44% Petite Sirah, 32% Syrah, 15% Zinfandel, and 9% Nebbiolo. The grapes for this wine were harvested from mature vineyards located in Lodi and Northern Sonoma. Dark and spicy, with aromas of peppery black cherry, raspberry, smoked bacon and rose petals. Flavors of blackberry and smoky licorice. This is a great wine for those who like powerful, deep reds at a good price.

93 points Josh Raynolds (International Wine Cellar): "(100% petit verdot) Deep ruby. Extravagantly floral bouquet offers smoky blackberry, cassis, violet, magnolia and Indian spices. Pliant dark berry flavors display liqueur-like depth, with tangy berry skin and mineral notes adding vibrancy. Silky tannins build with air and frame a sweet, sappy finish, which boasts impressive lift and persistence. One of the best New World versions of this variety I've ever tasted. (Nov/Dec 2008)"
