Puglia

Puglia runs from about the "Achilles tendon" of the Italian "boot" all the way down to the bottom of the "heel." Almost the only time Americans find themselves here is to catch the ferry for Greece from Brindisi. Native grape varieties include Negroamaro, found mostly on the Salento peninsula and the mainstay of reds such as Salice Salentino, and Uva di Troia, an ancient grape from which Castel del Monte reds are made. There are also a number of interesting sweet wines produced here, such as the red Aleatico di Puglia and the white Moscato di Trani.
