Tuscany sometimes seems to be virtually carpeted in vines. Besides the well-known Chianti and Brunello, there is Carmignano (a Sangiovese-Cabernet blend), Vino Nobile di Montepulciano; out toward the coast you'll find Morellino di Scansano (Sangiovese) and Bolgheri (best exemplified by Bordeaux-lookalikes Sassicaia and Ornellaia). Then there's a whole slew of what have come to be called "Super Tuscans" (a term coined in English to describe any Tuscan red wine that doesn't adhere to traditional blending laws for the region, and carrying no official weight with the Italian wine authorities), as well as dry whites such as Vernaccia di San Gimignano and a dessert wine called Vin Santo that can be relatively dry (almost Sherry-like in this case) or quite sweet.
