It is a superbly balanced wine with stunning length to match the opulence of its fruit. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2025. Rocche dei Manzoni is an estate whose Barolos I have tended to underrate when young, but then always enjoyed immensely with bottle age. The estate's Barolos are made in a sleek, modern style, with 100% new French oak aging. The wines typically require some bottle age to absorb their oak component. Aromatically complex, perfumed nose combines redcurrant, cherry, rose petal, minerals and mint; distinctly cooler and more classic than the 2000. Suave, spicy and intensely flavored; denser than the 2000 but less open to inspection today. Finishes dry and uncompromising, with firm, building tannins and very good length.
