92 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The yields in Beaux Bruns were down thirty-five percent in 2006 because of the July hail, and the wine is showing perhaps just a bit more edginess to its tannins as a result. However, this closed and deep wine will be superb with a bit of bottle age, as it offers up a lovely nose of pure cherry fruit, blood orange, a touch of mustard seed, coffee, an excellent base of soil and a touch of cedar. On the palate the wine is fullish, structured and tangy, with a fine core of fruit, very nice acidity to give lift and energy, and great length on the moderately tannic finish. This will be excellent in the fullness of time. 2014-2040. (Nov/Dec 2007)"
90-93 points Fine Wine Review: "Normally, Barthod has 15 casks (450 cases) of Chambolle-Beaux Bruns, but because of the hail, she has but 9 in 2006. The wine is rounder than the foregoing wines with red currant and strawberry flavors and some tannins. It will need some time. (Issue 119; 2008)"
91 points Allen Meadows (Burghound): "(50+ year old vines). A ripe liqueur-like nose of dark blue fruit aromas that include plum and floral elements, in particular violets, complements the earth-infused and solidly powerful flavors that are rich, sweet and offer fine volume and concentration on the admirably long finish. A beautiful Chambolle with muscle. Drink: 2014+. (Jan 2009)" |

93 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "[$170 list] The 2000 Brut Cuvee Elisabeth Salmon is refined and elegant, with lovely depth and richness in its fragrant fruit. The 2000 Elisabeth Salmon is weightier than the NV Brut Rose yet everything is simply in the right place. This is a gorgeous, wonderfully expressive Champagne from Billercart-Salmon that is even more impressive than it was last year. The 2000 Cuvee Elisabeth Salmon is 50% Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Noir, of which 10% is still Pinot juice. Roughly 10% of the wine was aged in cask, and the wine was bottled with 9 grams of dosage. This is Lot: L598956 32009J. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2022. (Dec 2009)"
Producer notes: "Created in 1988 as a tribute to the co-founder Elisabeth Salmon, this cuvée is from an equal blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, vinified as white wine, to which some Pinot Noir from Mareuil-sur-Aï, vinified as red wine, has been added. This vintage stands out for its amazing coppery-pink glints underscored by an outstanding string of pearls and a lasting but fine and delicate mousse. This has a delicate hazelnut nose with fascinating herbaceous overtones and hints of marzipan; its finesse persists in a lively, energetic way. Its harmony derives from a sterling vinosity and a spicy finish. Extremely delicate, the result of the strict vinification of the House of Billecart-Salmon." |

| Bill Mayer (The Age of Riesling): "Claude Carré is in the village of Trepail, which is just up the hill from Ambonnay, not more than 5 kilometers. But it is up the hill, and as such, has more of the chalky soil that we associate with Champagne... Having chalky soil, it is a Chardonnay village, and that’s what Carré makes... The NV Brut which is 70% 2004, 20% 2003, and 10% 2002. It is very tasty, very friendly... If you, like me, enjoy Chardonnay based Champagne, this is an excellent place to start. (Dec 2008)" |

89+ points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "Philippe Alliet is one of my favorite producers in Chinon, and his 2007 regular bottling (he also produces a Cuvée Vieilles Vignes) is excellent, but really deserves at least a year or two in the cellar to allow it to fully blossom. The nose is deep, complex and just a tad horsy from a trace of brett, as it offers up scents of black cherries, leather, a nice base of soil, herbs, woodsmoke, menthol, gravel and the aforementioned touch of barnyard. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, young and nascently complex, with a rock solid core of fruit, modest tannins and very good length and grip on the finish. Today, this is still a bit chewy and tough going, but a couple of years in the cellar will work wonders. 2011-2025. (Sep/Oct 2009)"
Philippe Alliet is the proprietor of this small domaine in Cravant-les-Côteaux, location of some of the best Cabernet Franc vineyards in the Loire Valley. Considered by many to be the finest producers in Chinon, Alliet is part of a new generation of Loire winemakers dedicated to low yields, optimally ripe fruit, and fastidious vineyard management. Inspired by the greatest wines of Bordeaux -- a region he visits several times a year -- he aims to create wines of similar structure and power. From his 12-hectare domaine, Philippe produces a stunning lineup of 100% Cabernet Franc wines, including this basic Chinon of great purity and balance. For all his cuvées, the grapes are totally destemmed to eliminate the vegetal characteristics often associated with Loire Valley reds. A five week maceration period produces a wine with great extract, which is then egg-white fined. |

| 100% Pecorino, from a vineyard planted in 2002 and produced for the first time in 2007. The wine is fresh and clean on the nose, with nutty, almondy perfumes giving way to crisp, tangy fruit on the palate. An attractive balance of fruit and zingy freshness make this an excellent aperitif. |

Opaque purple-colored, it delivers an expressive perfume of pain grille, mineral, scorched earth, violets, and black cherry. On the palate it is medium to full-bodied with layers of savory dark fruit, ripe tannin, excellent balance, and an elegant personality. Give this outstanding effort 2-3 years in the cellar and enjoy it from 2011 to 2023. Fabre Montmayou is owned by Domaine Vistalba with startup in 1992. Barolo

| 91 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "Brothers Alessandro and Gian Natale Fantino operate out of a tiny cellar in Monforte that gives new meaning to the term 'garage wine.' The estate produces two Barolos from the prestigious Dardi zone of Bussia, as well as an extraordinary sweet wine made from dried Nebbiolo. For his Barolos, Fantino does a fermentation and maceration of roughly 20 days, after which the wines undergo malolactic fermentation in steel. The Barolo Dardi is aged in barriques, while the Riserva is aged in slightly larger barrels. The real showstopper though is the Nebbiolo passito, Nepas, which is one of the most unique, compelling sweet wines I have ever tasted. Imagine a profound Recioto but with the full range aromatics and flavors of a first-rate Barolo and you get some sense of what this wine is all about. Fantino’s ethereal 2001 Barolo Dardi offers a delicate, balsamic nose typical of Bussia, along with sweet fruit, spice, mineral and toasted oak notes on a classic, medium-bodied frame that bridges traditional and modern styles. It will benefit from a few additional years of cellaring and should drink well to age 20. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2021. (Oct 2006)" |

|
| A special deal from the vintage just came along that represents as good of a value in Napa Cabernet as we've seen in a long time. Firm, ripe and accessible now, with blackberry, cherry and violet aromas. Full bodied, with ripe berry, espresso and cocoa notes. Round and well structured. Chewy tannins to a long, silky finish. The fruit comes from Pritchard Hill, St. Helena and Mt. Veeder, which are home to some of the most sought after (and expensive) vineyards in Napa Valley. So how do we explain the low price? It's simple, inventories on finished wine have been backing up, so many wineries have backed out on grape contracts. That in turn has created unique buying opportunities for small, boutique wineries that purchase fruit and make their wine at custom crush facilities (such as JRE). In 2007, JRE owner John Robert Eppler was able to purchase some amazing, passed-over fruit at exceptional pricing. We've sold the JRE wines over the years to great fanfare, as they've always represented great value. However, this 2007 is far and away the best wine John has crafted and through a special bulk purchase, we're able to offer it at this crazy low price... |

91 points Allen Meadows (Burghound): "($46 list, 75 cases). A more elegant and equally fresh nose offers up pure red berry fruit and earth hints that also characterize the slightly less concentrated middle weight flavors that posses even more complexity on the energetic, mouth coating and impressively long finish. A qualitative choice between two excellent wines. Drink: 2013+. (Oct 2009)"
91 points Robert Parker: "The fruit and glycerin levels may be even more impressive in the 2007 Pinot Noir Turner Vineyard. There are fewer nuances in the aromatics, but the wine offers a beautiful blue and red fruit, incense, forest floor, earth, and spice-scented bouquet. Rich, full-bodied, and opulent, more aromatics should emerge with another year or two of bottle age. (Aug 2009)"
Producer notes: "A deep ruby hue with aromas of crushed sweet raspberries, violets, Chinese black tea, wild dried sage and chalky, almost wet stone-like notes. The wine is rich, full-bodied, multi-dimensional, with superb depth and length, and a remarkable finish. The wine is gorgeously pure." |

| Los Angeles Times 'Wine of the Week': "If you're a serious Pinot Head, then you already know about Sineann, the small dedicated producer in Yamhill County, Ore. The single-vineyard bottlings are pricey -- and very, very good, but the plain Oregon bottling, made from a blend of grapes from some of those same highly regarded vineyards, is a rare bargain. For less than $30, you can drink a Pinot that tastes as if it cost much more. Rich and round, the 2008 is an intense beauty with a strong cool-climate Oregon character. A medium bodied fruit forward style of Agiorgitiko that is meant to be drunk earlier than the GAI’A Estate. Deep purple in color in its youth, it develops into a deeper ruby color over time. Powerful aromas of spice, black berry, black cherry and plum are found on the nose & palate. This wine has medium firm tannins, medium alcohol and a medium to long finish.
Mark Squires (Wine Advocate): "[$28 list] The 2006 AGIORGITIKO is a very suave wine, showcasing what modern Agiorgitiko is all about at a relatively reasonable price. Beautifully balanced, fragrant and flavorful without being jammy, this has ripe tannins, a little brightness around the edges and a graceful, ethereal feel to it. It is very Burgundian styled, and quite delicious. Drink now-2014. Gai’a has established itself as one of Greece’s gold standard wineries. Unlike the majority of them, though, it is double trouble--making exceptional whites on Santorini as well as some of the country’s best Agiorgitiko in Nemea. (Dec 2009)" |

The wines aren’t flashy... they just taste good, and go with food beautifully... the Riesling Urgestein is just filled with minerality and has a beautiful floral nose. The finish goes on long enough for the most picky wine lover. And, you don’t have to shell out $40 bucks or more for it. Definite win win." |

| Bill Mayer (The Age of Riesling): "...one of my favorite dry wines in Germany... For classic German wine lovers, these wines are very modern, untypical, and, gulp, dry. Now before you run away screaming, you should know that, until a couple of years ago, I would have been out in front, running with you as fast as I could. But I can't deny the quality of these wines, nor their beauty. The Germans seem to be getting it finally, figuring out how to make a perfectly balanced wine that tastes utterly German, and unique, but which is dry. I suppose Global Warming may have something to do with it... Or maybe my tastes have changed. Actually, I think it's a combination of the three, but I want you to try these wines, especially those of you who prefer the old style, the normal Kabinetts and Spätlesen. I think you will fall in love with them just as I have. At any rate, Winter is a superb discovery. They will be great hits in restaurants as well. I predict this winery will become one of the hottest in Germany. And you will have your chance to be ahead of the curve." |

90 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "[$22 list] Good bright medium ruby. Superripe aromas of cassis, mocha, cola and chocolatey oak are complicated by cooler suggestions of graphite and tobacco leaf. Sweet, lush and silky, but with nicely integrated acidity framing the dark berry and cedary oak flavors. This is fat with fruit and downright sexy, with none of the cooked character shown by many 2006 reds from Mendoza. (Jan/Feb 2009)"
90 points Jay Miller (Wine Advocate): "...aged for 14 months in 80% French oak, 30% new, and 20% new American oak. It exhibits an enticing perfume of wood smoke, cedar, tobacco, black currant, and blackberry. On the palate it is medium to full-bodied with ample spicy black fruits, integrated tannins, complex flavors, and a lengthy finish. Give it 1-2 years to round out and drink it from 2010 to 2020. From the walled vineyard right in front of the Château inside the village of Puligny-Montrachet, this over-achieving Bourgogne Blanc is stellar year in and year out. It definitely shows the floral and mineral notes in the nose that make the village famous. Good length and buttery, citrus fruit make this a great wine at any price, but this "little" wine from an estate with an embarrassing array of riches can stand up to the best of them.
88 points David Schildknecht (Wine Advocate): "[$30 list] The penetrating clarity and fresh lemon scents and flavors of his 2007 Bourgogne Clos du Chateau certainly points to health and purity of fruit, although there is more than enough sense of stuffing to go along with the wine's brightness. Nectarine and white peach add succulence and a suggestion of sweetness, while chalky and herbal inflections lend invigoration to a spirited finish. This displays considerable polish for its appellation, and should remain a pleasure to drink over the next 3-4 years. (Dec 2009)"
The 2005 vintage of this wine was named "Wine of the Week" by the Los Angeles Times (1/21/09), which wrote: "...crisp and cool, with accents of citrus, flowers and white pepper, and a gorgeous buttery texture. Since Etienne de Montille took over as wine director, Chateau de Puligny-Montrachet is finally living up to its potential. The vineyards are now organic and most of them are biodynamic. He's introduced changes in the cellar, too, and the results are dramatic. A pretty great value for the quality -- and a real indulgence. A white Burgundy like this is a great basic to have on hand all the time, to drink with steamed shellfish, crab or lobster, seafood stews and chowders. It also makes a fine aperitif with a little smoked trout or salmon." |

An excellent showing and a wine for the medium term. 2012+. (Jan 2008)" |

89 points Jay Miller (Wine Advocate). No tasting note given, but following note is by Wine Advocate on the 2004 vintage: "Serious efforts are being made to elevate quality in La Mancha and this is one signpost. The 2004 Pago Florentino is an estate bottled wine composed of 100% Tempranillo from young vines. It was aged for 12 months in new and used French and American oak. Dark ruby in color, it offers up attractive fruity aromas of plums, blueberry, and licorice with smoky, toasty notes in the background. This is followed by a lush, medium to full-bodied wine with a supple texture, ripe fruit, and good flavors in an easy-drinking, user-friendly style. Drink this hedonistic effort over the next 2-3 years. (Feb 2008)"
89 points Peñín Guide: "(Tempranillo 100%) Deep cherry colour, powerful aroma, very toasted (roasted), spicy, earthy, candied fruit, flavourful palate, fat, roasted finish, ripe tannins. (2008)" |

93+ points Robert Parker: "The 2005 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Prestige is a classic. Full-bodied, powerful, dense, with a complete personality, it exhibits terrific peppery, licorice-infused, black currant and kirsch-like fruit, a broad, savory, expansive mouthfeel, and a powerful, long finish with sweet but not very noticeable tannins. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2025. (Oct 2007)"
92 points Josh Raynolds (International Wine Cellar): "Bright red. Explosively perfumed aromas of vivid, mineral-dominated redcurrant, strawberry and tangy blood orange; smells like Burgundy. Tangy red fruit flavors offer impressive clarity and flavor impact, with no excess weight. Fresh, precise and persistent on the strikingly sweet, clinging finish. (Jan/Feb 2008)" |
