88 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "[$20 list] The 2010 Sin Zin is about as good a bottle of California wine as readers will find for the money. Juicy, rich and varietally expressive, the 2010 impresses for its balance, especially at this price point. Juicy red cherries, tobacco, flowers and mint linger on the expressive, layered finish. This is a terrific effort for a vintage that was very, very hard for Zinfandel. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2015. (Apr 2013)"
Producer notes: "The 2010 includes a small amount of Petite Sirah to broaden the mouthfeel on the wine and add a little more dark fruit to the palate. There are aromas of raspberry, plum, black cherry, and citrus. In the glass there are flavors of plum, cranberry, black cherry, and classic spicy black pepper. The 2010 is a restrained vintage and will reward those with the patience to cellar a few bottles. 98.5% Zinfandel, 1.5% Petite Sirah. Alcohol 14.7%."

Producer notes: "From one of Sonoma Valley's oldest and most prestigious Zinfandel vineyards, Old Hill Ranch, established in 1885. The grapes for 'Bambino' are from a 10-acre block we planted on Old Hill in 1998. This young vine field-blend is patterned after the ancient vine field-blend for which Old Hill is known. The wine is a blend of at least a dozen grape varieties -- principally Zinfandel, but also Petite Sirah, Alicante Bouchet and Grenache to name a few -- all fermented together to create this Zinfandel blend. Our Bambino is deep purple in color with intense blackberry aromas and lots of 'Old Hill' spice, including nutmeg, cinnamon and vanilla. The flavors are intense too, with blackberries, cherries, and vanilla spice. The tannins are big but ripe and mouth watering on the finish."

Producer notes: "We’ve been producing a White Zinfandel at Buehler since 1983. Our means of bringing you consistently delicious wines remains unchanged since 1983: we hand-pick our 100% zinfandel fruit riper than most producers and leave less residual sugar. Riper fruit translates to flavors like wild berries and strawberries; yes, real red zinfandel fruit flavors! The end result is a wine with more red zinfandel berry character and a less sweet, more refreshing taste. Alcohol 12.5%. Residual sugar 1.5%."

Producer notes: "What makes this particular vintage so good? Consider the vineyards that compose over 90% of this wine -- Fanucchi (planted in 1906), Carlisle (planted in 1927), Rowe (planted in 1906), Rossi (planted in 1910), and Bedrock (planted in 1888). All of these vineyards are designates in their own right. With the exception of Rossi, all contain significant mixed blacks. If you’re a fan of high quality, old-vine Zinfandel at a bargain price, back the truck up. Serious folks, take advantage of my lack of sanity. No one should be selling a wine this good for so little. 677 cases produced. Tasting Note: Medium-dark ruby-garnet. A classic 'zin-berry' (raspberry, cherry) aroma is highlighted by notes of briary spice and black pepper. Smooth and full-bodied on entry, a wave of red fruits envelops the palate while refined tannins build through the finish. The texture and precision of this wine is simply amazing! Drink now. Drink next year. Drink all the way until 2018! No matter what you do, you can’t go wrong!"

87 points Wine Spectator: "Soft but still zesty, with appealing notes of ripe black cherry, caramel and spice. Drink now through 2017. (6/30/12)"
Producer notes: "Cline Ancient Vines Zinfandel shows wonderful, fat strawberry, with coffee and chocolate characters. Aging in new and used wood has lent this wine a subtle vanilla quality that nicely complements the explosive fruit notes. Food Pairing: Ripe fruit and soft tannins make this mouth coating rich vintage a nice complement to pasta dishes with a light tomato sauce or grilled meats. Alcohol 15.0%."

Producer notes: "The 2009 Diener Ranch Zinfandel exhibits loads of blackberry, plum, chocolate and a hint of dried herbs on the nose. In the mouth you will find the same characteristic dustiness from the red volcanic soils as in previous vintages, and the body is rounder with subtle mouth coating tannins. As such, the DR Zin pairs great with spicy foods like Kansas City barbeque or pasta with arrabbiata sauce. Alcohol 14.1%."

Producer notes: "This is our third vintage of Cinema, and probably the most intensely concentrated of the vintages. The 2008 Cinema has tremendous richness as a result of the fruit’s ripeness, and a solid tannin structure that will allow it to mature nicely over time. Those who are fans of Super Tuscans will enjoy the spicy, full-bodied nature of this wine as well as the juicy fruit impressions of blackberries, cherries, currants, anise and cigar box. Dark and decadent, but with a good showing of balance and complexity. Barrel aged 18 months in 50% new French oak and 50% 1-2 year old French oak. 47% Zinfandel, 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petite Sirah. Alcohol 14.5%.

Producer notes: "82% Zinfandel, 14% Petite Sirah, 4% Syrah. Barrel fermented 13 months in French oak (25% new and 75% 1-2 year old). A Zinfandel that pushes the envelope of decadence with voluptuous, concentrated flavors of fruit jam, chocolate and vanilla."
Not yet reviewed; 2009 vintage rated 92 points and 'Editors' Choice' by Wine Enthusiast: "Just one word for this Zin: delicious. It’s really classic Dry Creek, maybe a little softer than many, but profoundly ripe in wild berry, cherry, cola, licorice, black pepper and sandalwood flavors that finish long and deep. Great price for a Zinfandel this good."

Producer notes: "77% Zinfandel, 22% Petite Sirah, 1% Carignan. A second straight year of lower than average yields has provided for a wonderfully nuanced, deeply fragrant Zinfandel. A wine that expresses its intensity through complex layers instead of simple, brute power. It is almost impossible to describe the zesty 'fruit bowl' of aromatics: Raspberry? Blackberry? Mulberry? Perhaps razzmatazz berry describes it best. The addition of Petite sirah underscores the ripe fruit flavors and adds a spicy touch of cardamom and cinnamon. Plush without ever being heavy or harsh, the 2009 Zinfandel is a delicious wine that sets the mind thinking of a myriad of potential food pairings."

Josh Raynolds (International Wine Cellar): "Deep ruby. Very smoky aromas of cherry, blueberry and grilled meat; smells like syrah. Pliant dark fruit flavors are supported by juicy acidity and framed by supple tannins. Picks up a spicy quality on the long, zesty finish. Very fresh and easy to drink now. (May/Jun 2008)"
Producer notes: "This old-vine Zinfandel provides captivating aromas of raspberry, boysenberry, blackberry and white pepper and anise, complemented by flavors reminiscent of black raspberries, bittersweet chocolate and cinnamon. Stunningly rich and concentrated, our 2006 Russian River Valley Zinfandel has incredible definition of fruit and sweet luscious tannins."

Producer notes: "Our Ink Grade Vineyard is perfectly suited to growing Zinfandel. On a rocky shale ridge, we designed terraced blocks which provide maximum sun exposure to nurture the fruit to full maturity. Flavors of strawberry and raspberry jam are spiced up by hints of black pepper and anise -- classic characteristics of the varietal. Medium in body, this is a balanced wine that finishes with well-integrated oak -- adding just a dash of vanilla flavor."

Producer notes: "The 2011 Joel Gott Zinfandel has aromas of raspberries, blackberries and blueberry jam. Dense and rich on the front of the palate with bright acidity on the mid-palate, and a long finish. The largest component of our blend for this vintage is old vine Zinfandel from Lodi. Fruit there was picked before the rains hit California well into harvest, and the longer than average hangtime in Lodi made for wines with better concentration than those from other appellations. Fruit from Sonoma, Mendocino and the Shenandoah Valley in Amador maintained the spice and red fruit characteristics that they’re known for. Blended, the various appellations produce a balanced, yet jammy and rich, Zinfandel. Barrel aged in 25% new American oak. Alcohol 14.3%."

Producer notes: "93% Zinfandel, 7% Petite Sirah. On the nose red fruit is complemented by earthen spices and nuances of sweet oak. Fresh raspberry and baked fruit dominate the front palate giving way to a balanced mouth feel. The tannins are silky and focused, exposing the more elegant characteristics of the cooler growing season. The finish is prototypical of Rockpile: long and vibrant. Full bodied with balanced acidity, this wine will age gracefully for the next 5-7 years. Barrel aged 15 months in 65% French and 35% American oak. Alcohol 14.15%."
Not yet reviewed; 2010 vintage rated 91 points by Wine Spectator: "Intense and still a bit awkward in its youth, but appealing for its spicy raspberry aromas and structured flavors of baked cherry, toasty anise and cinnamon. Needs time. Best from 2013 through 2018. 657 cases made."

Producer notes: "The grape yields in the 2010 vintage were lower than normal, producing wines with more depth, extraction and flavors. The grapes are grown on a steep hillside above the Dry Creek Valley. This Zin is a classic Dry Creek style: abundant jammy strawberry, blackberry and sweet dark cherry aromas surround a full-bodied red wine with fine tannins and a long, crisp and juicy finish. 220 cases made."

Producer notes: "[$39 list] This Zinfandel shows a bright, garnet red color with medium density. The nose is loaded with rich layers of spice, coconut, and brown sugar along with big fruit notes of plum, boysenberry, and hints of dried fruit as well. Beneath all that there is a rich but subtle earthliness reminiscent of hoisin. The palate opens smoothly with soft round tannins rolling across the tongue and a firm acid core, both working in harmony to establish the balance and structure of this wine. Ripe blackberry and bright strawberry flavors fill the mid-palate, all beautifully complemented by the nutty underlayer, and rounded out by the smoked meat notes on the finish. Alcohol 14.2%."

Producer notes: "The brambly fruit -- raspberry and cherry -- along with the dusty texture are apparent from the first aromas. Our 2010 vintage shows that classic Rutherford Dust character: tannins and a mouthfeel suggesting cocoa powder. The flavors echo the fruit and this texture with slightly spicy and tea like nuances. Thanks to the tannins, it is a bit drier this vintage, giving a texture that is rich and structured in the mouth. On the finish the fruit has the pepper and jam flavor that is unmistakably our Rutherford Zinfandel. CCOF Certified Organically Grown. Barrel aged 13 months in 40% new oak (Hungarian, 500L puncheons). 95% Zinfandel, 5% Petite Syrah. 1,400 cases produced. Alcohol 14.7%."

'Highly Recommended,' California Grapevine: "Medium-dark purplish ruby; forward, intense, jammy, peppery, blackberry fruit aroma with herbal notes and an early hint of sulfur that swirled off; full body; big, rich, extracted, jammy, dark berry fruit flavors; full tannin; some heat and harshness on the finish; lingering aftertaste. 15.9% alcohol; blended with 10% Petite Sirah, 6% Mourvèdre, and 2% Grenache; released August 2012. (Dec 2012)"
Producer notes: "82% Zinfandel, 10% Petite Sirah, 6% Syrah, 2% Grenache. The 2010 Saldo has a dark ruby color and intense aromas of dark cherry, cocoa powder and baking spice. The entry is rich and full, and leads into a broad mid palate with concentration and density, backed by lively acidity. The texture is soft and the tannins are polished. The finish is long with persistent notes of chocolate, berry and vanilla bean. Alcohol 15.9%."
