90 points and 'Year's Best Zinfandel,' Wine & Spirits: "[$22 list] A blend of small-berried fruit from a hillside vineyard with grapes from the valley floor, this is floral, intensely earthy and powerfully constricted. The blend creates full-bodied richness, bringing in some raisined character that adds complexity to the tighter fruit. A black wine with bountiful tannins to carry it in the cellar. (Feb 2013)"
Producer notes: " We harvested from two individual vineyards on the eastern side of the Dry Creek Valley from early September to early October. One vineyard is hillside with red rocky soil producing smaller berries with flavors of blackberry and blueberry. While the 2nd vineyard has gravelly loam soil located on the valley floor and produces fruit with pronounced flavors of cherry, plum and black pepper. Overall 2009 was a cooler vintage with fewer heat spikes than in past years, so the acidity of this vintage is slightly higher than prior releases. The growing season allowed for uniform ripening in the which led to wines with good structure, balance and complexity. In the glass there are aromas of blackberry, dark cherry, plum, chocolate, spice, black pepper and vanilla. There is mouth filling texture with spicy flavors of blueberry, black pepper, dark fruits and a long finish. Winemaker Kevin Hall notes that 'this is a big wine'."

89-91 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The 2011 Zinfandel is a screaming value. Sweet, layered and impeccably balanced, the 2011 is gorgeous from the very first taste. Hints of sweet tobacco, cedar, licorice and dark red cherries all take shape in the glass. This mid-weight, gracious Zinfandel is impeccable. Even better, it is a steal. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2018. (Apr 2013)"
Producer notes: "What makes this particular vintage so good? Consider the vineyards that compose over 90% of this wine -- Fanucchi (planted in 1906), Carlisle (planted in 1927), Rowe (planted in 1906), Rossi (planted in 1910), and Bedrock (planted in 1888). All of these vineyards are designates in their own right. With the exception of Rossi, all contain significant mixed blacks. If you’re a fan of high quality, old-vine Zinfandel at a bargain price, back the truck up. Serious folks, take advantage of my lack of sanity. No one should be selling a wine this good for so little. 677 cases produced. Tasting Note: Medium-dark ruby-garnet. A classic 'zin-berry' (raspberry, cherry) aroma is highlighted by notes of briary spice and black pepper. Smooth and full-bodied on entry, a wave of red fruits envelops the palate while refined tannins build through the finish. The texture and precision of this wine is simply amazing! Drink now. Drink next year. Drink all the way until 2018! No matter what you do, you can’t go wrong!"

91 points Wine Spectator: "Ripe and focused, with boysenberry and toffee aromas, offering layered huckleberry, pepper and fresh sage flavors. The tannins sneak in on the finish. Drink now through 2018. (4/30/13)"
91 points California Grapevine: "Medium-dark purplish ruby color; attractive, forward, intense, spicy, briary, raspberry jam aroma with notes of black pepper, smoked meat and toasty oak; full body; big, rich, fleshy, extracted, red and dark berry fruit flavors with overtones of sweet oak and a slightly creamy mouthfeel; medium-full to full tannin; lingering aftertaste. Very appealing to taste now with its forward, rich fruit. Very highly recommended. 15% alcohol; blended with 15% Petite Sirah; to be released January 2013. (Dec 2012)"
90 points Connoisseurs' Guide: "[$38 list] Ripe but not too ripe; deep but not over the top; high in oak but not ruled by the wood. Add nicely focused blackberries with a hint of dried raspberry for good measure and wrap it all up in a supple-textured, moderately tannic, well-balanced coverlet and, voila, you have the recipe for success. And while it is very ageworthy, it is also quite inviting here and now. (Jan 2013)"

92 points and 'Year's Best Zinfandel,' Wine & Spirits: "From Grgich Hills’ vineyard in Calistoga, a northeast-facing hillside near Petrified Forest Road. This has zin’s sour plum scent along with tannins that feel polished, supple, sophisticated and cool. They build richness rather than fullness into the wine, their depths sparkling with mineral glints of light. This is a classical Napa Valley zin to pour with most anything meaty off the grill. (Feb 2013)"
90 point California Grapevine: "[$42 list] Medium ruby; attractive, rich, spicy, briary, toasty, dark berry fruit aroma with notes of black pepper and smoked meat; medium-full to full body; forward, rich, plummy, briary, blackberry fruit flavors with peppery notes and a hint of anise; medium-full tannin; a bit rough on the finish; lingering aftertaste. Very highly recommended. 15.3% alcohol; blended with 2% Petite Sirah; released Winter 2012. (Dec 2011/Jan 2012)"
Producer notes: "We grow our Zinfandel naturally, without artificial fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides, at our estate vineyard in Calistoga, nestled in the northern tip of Napa Valley. This food-friendly Zinfandel’s flavors of strawberries, licorice and a hint of white pepper make it the perfect match for grilled meats, Lasagna, pizza topped with tomato sauce and beef stews."

Reticent and intensely saline, the 2011 is intriguing, but also quite shut down today. Exotic citrus peel and floral notes emerge over time, but readers will have to be patient. Today, the Fannucchi-Wood Road is very much closed in on itself. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2021. (Apr 2013)"
91 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "(again, from a site that was reportedly planted over a century ago): Glass-staining purple. Pungent red berry preserve and bitter cherry aromas show excellent clarity. Rich and surprisingly lively, offering broad black and blue fruit flavors and a jolt of peppery spices. Closes on a sweet floral pastille note, with subtle tannins providing grip. Hartford told me that there's a little bit of petite sirah in here. (May/Jun 2013)"

93 points Robert Parker: "The 2009 Zinfandel Old Vine walks a hypothetical path between the complexity, foresty, spicy notes of Pinot Noir and the exuberant, ripe, rich blue and black fruits of Zinfandel. Blackberry, blueberry, black cherry, pepper, spice and forest floor characteristics result in a complex, medium to full-bodied, supple-textured Zinfandel. This gorgeous Zin is already irresistible and should drink nicely for 4-5 years. (Feb 2011)"
92 points Josh Raynolds (International Wine Cellar): "Glass-staining ruby. Cool, complex aromas of blueberry, mulberry and dried flowers, complemented by a hint of minerality. Creamy and sweet, but with firm acidity leavening the wine's dark fruit preserve-like flavors. Wonderfully sappy and expansive zin, finishing with smooth tannins and excellent length. These vines are 93 years old, according to Don Hartford, and the wine was raised in two-thirds new oak. (May/Jun 2011)"
92 points Wine Spectator: "This shows a distinctive sense of place, featuring aromas of huckleberry and fresh underbrush, as well as complex, potent flavors of berry cobbler, minerals and roasted sage. Needs time. Best from 2013 through 2017. 1,000 cases made. (6/30/11)"
17.5/20 points Alex Hunt (The World of Fine Wine): "(16.1%) Aromatically, this shows a gorgeous depth of sleek blueberry fruit, with some herbal brightness to balance. The palate possesses classic Zin juiciness but brings more purity and finesse to the party than the majority. It is long and even in the mouth, with alcohol well in check and nicely judged acidity, too. (Issue 34; 2011)"

Layers of dark, floral-infused red/black hued fruit saturate the palate. The 2011 is gorgeous today, but it should also age nicely for at least a handful of years. The Highwire is one of the more overtly fruit-driven Zinfandels in this range. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2021. (Apr 2013)"
91 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "Dark purple. Sappy, liqueur-like aromas of fresh cherry and raspberry. Intense and concentrated but lively, with appealing sweetness to its sappy red fruit flavors. The raspberry notes lingers with excellent tenacity on the finish, which is lifted by zesty acidity and shows a touch of youthfully bitter tannins. Made from century-old vines, half head-trained and half trained on wires. (May/Jun 2013)"

Sappy and mouthfilling, with black and blue fruit flavors complicated by smoky herb and candied violet nuances. A plush, expansive zin that finishes with smooth tannins, a note of bitter cherry and very good length. (May 2012)"
Producer notes: "[$28 list] Again, the quality of the vintage really shows here. I love the 2006, which is drinking beautifully by the way and has years of life ahead of it, but at this stage I might have to give a slight edge to the 2007. It is a little lower in alcohol 14.1% and is a little more red fruited (think cherries rather than berries) with the usual bright acidity and long finish. A sophisticated zinfandel rather than a jam-in-a-jar brute. Plenty of flavor, plenty of structure, plenty of pleasure. It should have a long life ahead of it. 657 cases bottled."

90 points Connoisseurs' Guide: "[$29 list] Intense, keenly focused on vital blackberry fruit and showing an uncanny sensation of polish for the very ripe wine that it is, this impressive young Zinfandel proves that success can be found in even the most difficult vintage. True to its maker, it is a big and sturdy wine with plenty of muscle and mass, and, if it can justly be accused of being a bit tight and nervy just now, it has all the right parts in all the right places to age famously for some five or six years. (May 2012)"
Producer notes: "The nose is full of bright berry fruit and complimented by minerals and subtle black pepper. The front palate exudes raspberry jam and blackberry cobbler which evolve into richer flavors of vanilla and dark chocolate. The tannins are well balanced and approachable from a young age. The beautiful acidity will prove to be a hallmark of the vintage, giving this wine great length. The finish is long and pure; leaving no doubt that this is a well balanced Zinfandel. Enjoy the 2010 Dry Creek Zinfandel over the next 4-6 years. Barrel aged 14 months in 80% French oak and 20% American oak. 97% Zinfandel, 3% Petite Sirah. Alcohol 15.2%."

Leaning to a late harvest style and ready to drink now. Very highly recommended. 16.1% alcohol; 100% Zinfandel; released Fall 2012. (Feb 2013)"
Producer notes: "[$29 list] If you are one of those that believe bigger is better, read on. Appropriately named both for its bountiful bouqet of fruit, as well as where the grapes are grown, our most refined Zinfandel ever captivates the nose with pomegranate, fig, and cranberry. Raspberry jam dominates the mid-palate nuanced by savory butterscotch overtones. Vanilla, white and cayenne peppers, and cinnamon spice makes for a lively finish. Orin Swift’s cult-like fame started almost immediately several years back with the release of a wine called The Prisoner. Since its inception, this outrageously decadent red with the cool label has perennially been among our most requested wines. The fruit, a 'field blend' reminiscent of the old days in Napa when multiple varieties grew side by side in vineyards, has been carefully selected only from top vineyards in Napa, such as Tofanelli, Morisoli, Page Nord, Marston and David Fulton. Highly Recommended!
90 points Wine Spectator: "Not the distinctive Zin statement this once was, but still a bold, rich red blend that's jammed with flavor. Aromas of blackberry and caramel lead to ripe plum, licorice and spicy vanilla flavors. Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, Syrah, Charbono and Grenache. Drink now through 2017. (6/15/12)"
Producer notes: "44% Zinfandel, 26% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Syrah, 9% Petite Sirah, 2% Charbono, 1% Grenache. Dark red, almost garnet hue with bright red on the rim. Ripe cherry and cedar on the nose with hints of dried rose petal and sweet oak. Lovely entry that leads into a fat and savory mid palate. Ripe fig and black currant dominate the finish with a breadth of soft, well integrated tannins."

Producer notes: "51% Zinfandel, 19% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Syrah, 12% Petite Sirah, 2% Charbono, 1% Grenache. The wine has a dense red and black hue that is framed in vibrant crimson. Aromas of Bing cherry, espresso, roasted fig and vanillin oak accents are persistent. The entry is powerful and generous supported with lively acidity while flavors of ripe raspberry, pomegranate and wild berry fruit linger harmoniously. Soft, integrated tannin chains allow the wine to be approachable now and provides for a pleasant finish. Alcohol 15.2%."

92-94 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The 2010 Zinfandel is absolutely beautiful in this vintage. The cold growing season has given the wine an introspective quality that is hugely attractive. Layers of fruit gradually emerge from this racy yet reserved wine. The 2010 is graced with exquisite balance and class, with less in your face opulence than the 2009. This is a very promising wine. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2017. (Dec 2011)"
93 points Wine Spectator: "Dense but rich and fleshy, showing bold black currant, crushed pepper and toasty vanilla aromas, with complex black cherry, mineral and black olive flavors that are wrapped in big but ripe tannins. Drink now through 2022. 1,000 cases made. (5/8/13)"
90-93 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "(15.7% alcohol): Ruby-red. High-pitched berry aromas, with hints of chocolate and licorice. Sweet, lush and creamy, with lovely definition and lift to the red berry flavors. A somewhat cooler style than the 2009, and the better for it. Finishes with sweet, dusty, building tannins. Should make a serious, and seriously rich, bottle of zinfandel. (May 2012)"

Very appealing to taste now and also has some aging potential. Made by the Duckhorn Wine Company. Very highly recommended. 14.5% alcohol; 3,973 cases; a blend of 62% Zinfandel, 31% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 7% Merlot; released February 2012. (Jun 2012)"
90 points Connoisseurs' Guide: "For the most part, this deep and generous wine is very much keyed on the berrylike fruit of Zinfandel, but it comes with a nice measure of complementary sweet oak, and its Cabernet component is manifest in its solid sense of structure. It is a little too tough for drinking just yet, and its tannins do stick out at the finish, but very good things lie ahead for those who are willing to wait for another three to five years. (Sep 2012)"
Producer notes: "The aromas are complex and inviting, with lifted red fruit elements of raspberry and plum, as well as deeper bramble fruit notes and layers of vanilla, cream, nutmeg and cinnamon. A smooth, rich entry leads to sweet plum and lingering spice notes, with hints of cedar and clove. The wine's lush texture is supported by resolved tannins that lead to a full, ripe finish."

Then sweet, pliant and graceful in the mouth, with a silky texture and lively red and dark berry flavors. For a zin this is remarkably elegant. Finishes impressively long and sappy, with creamy red berry preserve flavors and fine-grained tannins. There's 22% petite sirah in here, according to Joel Peterson, which makes its light touch even more intriguing. (May/Jun 2011)"
91 points Connoisseurs' Guide: "[$35 list] A little bit tighter and less immediate in its fruit than most of its cellarmates, this year's Barricia bottling is nonetheless a very deep and well-filled wine with a fine sense of fruity muscle. It teams a full measure of well-ripened berries with complexing elements of briar and dusty spice, and, if still a bit compact and closed-in, it exhibits very good structure and striking length. It wants to be cellared for at least another four or five years, and it seems destined to grow and improve for a decade or more. (Sep 2012)"
90 points Wine Enthusiast: "This lovely wine shows the soft tannins and herbaceousness you often find in Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignons. That dried herb taste accompanies blackberry and black currant fruit. It’s classic Silver Oak, dry and elegant. Drink now-2016. (Dec 2012)"
Producer notes: "80% Zinfandel, 20% Petite Sirah. The Zinfandel from this vineyard has been revered by every winery that has made wine from it. The majority of Barricia is an old, low-production vineyard in a special location in Sonoma Valley. Due to the age of the vines and the dry farming practices, the crop level on these vines is low and the vine vigor minimal. This, of course, leads to very intense wines. Additionally, the thick-skinned nature of the grapes and the predominant tannins work to maintain the perfect balance between fruit and structure. Ripe black raspberry, cherry pie, cracked black pepper, and spice-driven scents with hints of smoke, dry earth, and new leather add complexity to the aromas classically associated with Barricia vineyards. Delicious, sweet dark fruit flavors at the heart of the wine give way to an intense finish with silky tannins and lingering flavors of blackberries and candied cherries. This is a wine with lovely structure and focus. Barrel aged 20 months in 100% French oak (30% new). Alcohol 14.9%. 600 cases produced."

92 points Wine & Spirits: "A plump, juicy zinfandel, this manages to be vibrant and savory at once. The ancient vines at Geyserville yield spicy berries, their tannins as black as bittersweet chocolate. The impression from the alcohol is generous, while the finish remains clean and cool. Best with at least ten years of cellar time. (Feb 2009)"
91 points Josh Raynolds (International Wine Cellar): "(70% zinfandel, 18% carignane, 10% petite sirah and 2% mataro) Ruby-red. Black raspberry, blueberry, smoked meat and dried violet on the fresh nose. Juicy, sharply focused red and dark berry flavors are dusted with suave minerals and firmed by supple tannins, with an exotic floral pastille note emerging on the back. Finishes sappy, sweet and long, with a deeper cherry note. Already quite complex."
90 points Wine Spectator: "Just like the tasty Sonoma field-style blends of yore, with distinct toasty dill and berry cobbler aromas and zesty raspberry, cracked pepper and earthy sage flavors that end with slightly rustic tannins. Zinfandel, Carignane, Petite Sirah and Mataro. Drink now through 2015. (12/15/08)"
90 points Connoisseurs' Guide: "70% Zinfandel; 18% Carignane; 10% Petite Sirah; 2% Mataro. It is usual for Ridge's Geyserville bottling to vie for top Zinfandel honors in every vintage, and, the 2006 version exhibits the depth and density and solid structure that we have come to expect. It hints at chocolate and a bit of raisiny fruit, and picks up an edge of tannin and heat at the end... given the ageworthy nature of its predecessors, it is likely to improve over time and comes with a recommendation for a several years of cellaring. 95 points Connoisseurs' Guide: "Another stunner under the Geyserville moniker, this rich, nicely layered offering combines red and black berries with touches of dried leaves and black pepper in its mid-volume aromas. And, as promising as the nose seems to be, the wine is even more deeply packed on the palate where its blackberry, raspberry, darkly spiced fruit is joined by background notes of creamy oak. Latter palate tannin assures that this version of Geyserville will enjoy the long-aging abilities of its predecessors. (May 2013)"
91-93 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The 2011 Geyserville impresses for its silkiness and texture. Sweet dark berries, flowers and mint are some of the notes that take shape in the glass. The 2011 is a decidedly mid-weight, feminine style of Geyserville. Floral notes reappear on the finish, adding lift and vibrancy. The 2011 should drink well upon release and also age. To make the 2011, Ridge was especially selective and fewer parcels made it into the blend than normal, especially with the Petite Sirah. The blend is 80% Zinfandel, 16% Carignane, 3% Petite Sirah and 1% Alicante Bouschet. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2031. (Aug 2012)"
Producer notes: "78% Zinfandel, 16% Carignane, 4% Petite Sirah, 1% Alicante Bouschet, 1% Mataro (Mourvedre). Aromas of scented bramble fruit, mint, gravelly earth, and sweet oak. Flavors of black tea, sweet cherry fruit and complex minerality. Sensuous and layered with medium chalky tannins and lively acidity. Finishes long and savory. 14.2% alcohol."

90 points California Grapevine: "Medium to medium-dark ruby; attractive, briary, cedary, dark cherry and blackberry fruit aroma with hints of dill, black pepper, and toffee; medium-full to full body; forward, rich, textured, cedary, blackberry fruit flavors with firm acidity; medium-full to full tannin; lingering aftertaste. Easy to drink now. Very highly recommended. 14.4% alcohol; 100% Zinfandel; released April 2012. (Jun 2012)"
90 points Wine Enthusiast: "A first-class Zinfandel, showing the variety’s briary, brambly personality. The flavors are of ripe wild summer berries, cola, pine extract, black pepper and cinnamon, wrapped into firm tannins and finishing sweet and long. Alcohol 14.4%. (Jul 2012)"
Producer notes: "100% Zinfandel. Garnet/medium ruby. Cherry-rhubarb compote, crushed pepper, creamy oak. Bright fruit entry, elegant mid-palate, great fruit/tannin balance; lively acidity in a long finish. The Benito Dusi Ranch is the only vineyard in the Central Coast Viticultural Area from which we source grapes. The 1967 vintage was our first wine from this vineyard. It is planted entirely to zinfandel, unusual in a vineyard more than eighty years old. Purchased by Sylvester and Catarina Dusi in 1924, the property has been farmed since the 1940s by their son Benito, the owner. Alcohol 14.4%."

92 points Connoisseurs' Guide: "Open, nicely fruity, enriched by creamy oak and just plain easy to drink in a somewhat direct and entirely likeable way, Ridge's Ponzo bottling is a great example of straightahead Zinfandel. If it is less complex than its pricier partners in the Ridge lineup, it is also so precise in its 'pure' berryish fruit that it offers a brilliantly clear look at the variety's personality. Moderate in its tannins but not without enough grip to work with most pork or pasta dishes, it does not want a lot of cellar time but is sure to reward it nonetheless. (Jan 2013)"
91 points Wine Spectator: "Tightly wound yet richly structured, offering boysenberry and spiced anise aromas, with deep, crisp plum, dill and earthy mineral flavors that finish with big, ripe tannins. Best from 2014 through 2018. 1,250 cases made. (12/15/12)"
91 points California Grapevine: "Medium-dark purplish ruby; attractive, intense, briary, peppery, blackberry fruit aroma; full body; rich, plush, cedary, briary, red and black fruit flavors; full tannin; lingering aftertaste. Enjoyable to drink now. Very highly recommended. 14.5% alcohol; 1,250 cases; blended with 4% Petite Sirah; released September 2012. (Oct 2012)"
91 points Wine Enthusiast: "This will divide the Zinfandel community. Some will find its earthiness and herbaceousness an attractive complication to the briary berry and spice notes. Others will think it’s not quite ripe enough and lacking richness. The score reflects the wine’s complexity and adaptability to a wide range of foods. (12/31/12)"
90 points Fine Wine Review: "The Ponzo Zinfandel is from a vineyard about 4.5 miles south of Lytton Springs. The wine shows some stony aspects to go with dark berry fruits and a little bit of chocolate and vanilla that comes from the American oak (roughly ¼ new) that integrates very well here. Winemaker John Olney says that the wine should be enjoyable over the next 5-7 years and I have no reason to contradict that estimate. 4% Petite Sirah interplanted with the Zinfandel. 14.5% stated alcohol. (Issue #137; 2013)"
Producer notes: "Raspberries, rose petal and pepper on the nose. Medium to full bodied. Soft and elegant on the palate, with a fine tannin structure. Finishing with firm acidity and delicious cherry fruit."

93 points Connoisseurs' Guide: "Like most Ridge Zinfandels, this one places a premium on structure and balance, but it is in all ways a bigger, gutsier wine that its partner from Lytton Springs, and it shows a lot of raw young power. Although it is presently roughed up by fairly evident tannins and shows the sturdiness of a mountain-grown wine, it is charged with lots of pure berry-like fruit that survives its finishing astringency. Enjoy it now if you must with rustic stews, but know that it will not reach its peak for a good many years. (Jan 2012)"
92 points Josh Raynolds (International Wine Cellar): "(includes 7% petite sirah; 15.3% alcohol): Opaque violet color. An intensely perfumed bouquet displays dark berry preserves, cherry-cola, vanilla and woodsmoke. Lush, palate-coating blackberry and boysenberry flavors are complicated by notes of licorice and candied violet. Shows very good intensity on the gently tannic finish, which clings with noteworthy tenacity. (Oct/Nov 2011)"
90 points California Grapevine: "Medium-dark purplish ruby; attractive, forward, plummy, briary, cedary, blackberry fruit aroma with hints of dill and dark chocolate; full body; forward, rich, plummy, peppery, blackberry fruit flavors with a firm gripping finish; medium-full tannin; lingering aftertaste. Very highly recommended. 15.3% alcohol; blended with 7% Petite Sirah; released September 2011. (Oct/Nov 2011)"
90 points Fine Wine Review: "The York Creek Zinfandel shows a smoky American oak, almond nose and flavors, and some classic brambleberry beneath, and eventually some black cherry showing through. The wine is medium-weight with some tannins and just a little head on the finish, but overall with elegance for a Zinfandel. 93% Zinfandel, 7% Petitte Sirah. The winemaker’s notes recommend drinking over the next 6-7 years, which sounds about right to me. 14.7% stated alcohol. (Issue #133; 2011)"
Producer notes: "Barrel aged for 12 months in 100% air-dried American oak barrels (20% new, 30% one and two years old, and 35% four and five years old). 93% Zinfandel, 7% Petite Sirah. 15.3% alcohol."

90 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "Good medium-deep red. Liqueur-like red berries, pepper, mocha and sexy oak notes of sandalwood and cinnamon on the nose; this reminded me of Chateauneuf du Pape. Lush, ripe red berry flavors firmed by harmonious acidity. Still a bit youthfully tight, with a saline nuance. But this is suave, fresh and serious, and not overly sweet. Firmly structured, adult zinfandel for drinking over the next several years. (May/Jun 2005)"

91 points California Grapevine: "Medium-dark ruby with purplish edges; attractive, forward, intense, briary, plummy, ripe blackberry fruit aroma with hints of vanilla and black pepper; full body; forward, rich, plummy, briary, dark berry fruit flavors; medium-full tannin; lingering aftertaste. Shows good depth and varietal character and very enjoyable to drink now. Very highly recommended. 14.5% alcohol; 700 cases; released Summer 2011. (Dec 2011/Jan 2012)"
Producer notes: "This wine represents the labor of three generations of the Scherrer family -- most of the vines that produced this wine were planted in 1912. It was bottled without fining or filtration to capture the beauty and personality of the Scherrer Vineyard. Although enjoyable in its youth, it should age and develop gracefully for 5 to 10 years after the vintage. Tasting notes: One of the things I really like about this vintage in general (across all varieties) is the balance. Everything seems to be right in proportion -- it is rich enough, elegant enough, structured enough, and has a nice, long, graceful, textural finish. It is so ‘good enough’, that the recently bottled samples I bring home for dinner do not last the night. Red, blue and hints of black fruits take their turns at the top while pleasant, fresh loamy undertone plays counterpoint. I found myself smiling the whole time I was racking this from barrel to the bottling tank. 800 cases produced."
