Unique blend of 9 different varietals. Loaded with handsome fruit and delivers big-time flavor. 26% Syrah, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Mourvedre, 9% Grenache, 7% Zinfandel, 5% Touriga Nacional, 5% Pinot Noir, 5% Cinsault, and 4% Roussanne.
WHWC Staff Notes: "This is a favorite winery I have been following for the past 13 years. Located in the far west side of Paso Robles, I first became aware of Adelaida when the winemaker at Justin tipped me off to them. That was just prior to him making the famed Justin Isosceles that was ranked as Wine Spectator's #5 wine of the year. As fate would have it, he left Justin that year to take over winemaking at Adelaida. The School House brand is Adelaida's second label. This is a perfect example of what a multi-varietal blend with some bottle age should taste like. It consists of Syrah 26%, Cabernet Sauvignon 20%, Mourvedre 19%, Grenache 9%, Zinfandel 7%, and equal parts Touriga Nacional, Pinot Noir, Cinsault, and Roussanne. It's just the right amount of jamminess with the alcohol checking in at 14.9%. The wine is full-bodied and all of the nine varietals mesh well together. This bottle would go well with pizza, pasta with a red meat sauce or even a burger. It's drinking really well right now and is in a style that well represents the west side of Paso Robles." - Mark Menchyk

89 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The 2008 Syrah Right Hand Man is yet another ridiculous value. Layers of dark fruit flow from the glass as this plump, juicy Syrah shows off its overt, flashy personality. Hints of mocha and espresso linger on the finish. This dark, inviting and totally decadent wine is impressive. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2013. (Aug 2011)"
88 points Wine Spectator: "Firm, dense and chewy, yet with lively, earthy blackberry and wild berry fruit that's intense, focused and persistent, ending with chewy tannins. Drink now through 2018. 2,000 cases made. (3/31/12)"
Producer notes: "Our mainstay is back; with a powerful nose of black berry and black currant fruits framed in herbal garrigue scents, with a citrus edge followed by Almond wood smoke, sweet black pepper and nori essences. On the palate, raspberry crème and black berry preserve flavors are surrounded by elements of forest floor and fresh green herbs notes that carry into the long, pure finish. Firm and developed tannins are carried with balanced acidity."

89 points Wine Enthusiast: "[$30 list] This unusual blend of Syrah, Grenache, Tempranillo and Mourvèdre is the kind of red wine that needs spicy, salty beef or lamb to balance it. It’s tannic, acidic and peppery, with a roasted meat edge to the blackberry fruit. Calls to mind Italian-style fare, rich in olive oil and cheeses. (12/15/11)"
87 points Connoisseurs' Guide: "[$30 list] It is not at all surprising that this grab bag of grapes is far from Syrah-specific in its focus, but it is fairly rich and brings together attractive elements of raspberries, minerals, dusty soil and a hint of cocoa. Its first steps are governed by ripeness, but pert acidity soon arrives, and, if ending with a little more stiffness and heat than it could, it is an intriguing young wine that will unfold to show better with age. (Nov 2011)"
Producer notes: "35% Syrah, 31% Grenache, 22% Tempranillo, 12% Mourvèdre. This is a big, rich wine, with complex aromas of leather, tobacco, blueberries, sweet oak, and a hint of white pepper. It is earthy and well structured with concentrated flavors of black currants and spearmint. The finish is long and silky, leaving a note of bitter-sweet chocolate behind. Firm tannins will allow this wine to develop nicely with age."
