Producer notes: "[$20 list] Vivid fruit and full tannins define the 2011 A to Z Pinot Noir. The wine is pure, displaying pedigree and presence with a beautiful, clear, vibrant red color. Fresh aromas of lush forest berries and cherries lead, followed by more savory aromatics of tobacco, smoke, game, clean earth and flint. In the mouth, a focused attack of concentrated red and blue fruits grows in complexity on the mid-palate with ripe, dense tannins perfectly supported by the weight of the fruit. The wine completely harmonizes with a long finish of complex red fruit and mineral flavors. Alcohol 13.0%."
Not yet reviewed; 2010 vintage rated 89 points by Wine Spectator: "Light and refreshing, open-textured and inviting, offering raspberry, tea leaf and spice flavors that linger delicately. Drink now."

'Very good,' PinotFile: "13.2% alc. Moderate reddish-purple color in the glass. Shy aromas of black cherries, rosebush and flint. Middleweight flavors of black cherries, black raspberries, cola and rose water, with a flowery undertone. Well-balanced ripe tannins and a focused, chalky finish leaving behind a lively fruit impression. Not the drive, extract and power we have come to expect from Shea Vineyard in this vintage, but still a wine of interest. Tasted the following day from a previously opened bottle, the nose was very perfumed and flowery with hints of oak and spice, the wine was smooth and soft on the palate, and some appealing spice had been added to the flavor profile. (4/13/13)"
Producer notes: "Botanica is always sappy and sanguine with a taste of wild rose, sour cherries, and blood orange. It is tempting to define them solely by their compelling texture and lush personality, but there is a structural element that is equally striking. This balance between extraordinarily concentrated fruit and intense levels of extract is the essence of the wine."

Producer notes: "Ceras is Botanica’s counterpoint. Its color is more purple than red. It is more about minerals and herbs than fruit and flowers. It is a focused and elegant distillation of rock rather than an opulent cascade of fruit. It is an expression of the geology that lays beneath our land, the tart blue fruits of the coast range and the tender herbs that one finds amongst the trees and mushrooms of the Northwest forest."

Producer notes: "Erratica is named for the giant rocks that are carried on the backs of glaciers and left to rest, alone and isolated, hundreds of miles from their true home. The name refers to the fact that they are of a completely different nature than everything else that lies in the field. Erratica is our most unconventional and experimental wine. Like the solitary rocks it is named after, it is completely unlike anything else. Typically rosé is made in one of two ways. Either it is pressed directly like a white wine, or bled from a fermenter destined for red wine during the first 24 hours. In this conventional sense, this is not rosé; but neither is it red or white. The liquid is macerated on the skins for a little over a week. Somewhere between the 6th and 8th day, the aromatics of the fermentation reach a peak of expression and fill the room with astonishing perfume. At this point, just before it becomes red wine, we siphon the juice from the fermenters and fill the barrels, where the juice finishes its fermentation and ages on the lees for a year before bottling."
Not yet reviewed; 2010 vintage rated 92 points by International Wine Cellar: "(100% pinot noir; made from juice macerated on the skins for roughly a week, after which it was racked into barrels and aged on its lees for a year before bottling): Faded red. A wild, complex bouquet evokes red fruit preserves, cherry pit and potpourri, with a note of orange zest adding lift. Sweet raspberry and cherry flavors are braced by tangy acidity and gain weight and floral character with air. Big but balanced, with excellent finishing cling and spicy persistence. (Jul 2012)"

Producer notes: "Imagine a walk down a Pacific Northwest forest trail in September, the warm, dry smell of firs and sunshine with ripe blackberries hanging off the vines and the cool trickle of a babbling brook over wet stones. That sums up the 2010 Argyle Willamette Valley Pinot Noir. This Pinot Noir has a surprising amount going on in the glass - from up front fruit to earthy complexity and spice nuances. Enjoy this taste of the Willamette Valley on the patio or on the forest trail."

Explosively perfumed aromas of red and dark berry preserves, Asian spices and potpourri, with cola and vanilla accents building in the glass. Sappy, broad and appealingly sweet, offering lively, spicy dark berry flavors with nuances of soy and candied flowers. Shows plenty of upfront appeal and intense fruit, finishing smooth, spicy and very long. (Jul/Aug 2012)"
93 points Wine Spectator: "[$80 list] This Pinot is impressive for its clarity, transparency and focused blackberry, raspberry and sassafras flavors, hinting at floral and mineral notes as the finish lingers enticingly. Offers elegance and refinement without losing intensity. Drink now through 2020. 1,263 cases made. (9/30/12)"
Producer notes: "If the Willamette Valley is the more hedonistic then this is the more intellectual older sibling -- showing its breeding as well as restraint. This wine as always is 100% from our original estate vineyard. Medium ruby color, aromatically very pure nose of sweet and sour cherries, red currants, pomegranate and even a refreshing touch of ruby red grapefruit. Reminds us of a red-fruited, Cote de Beaune. Medium bodied, elegant, pure and racy. The tannins are extremely well integrated, balanced by zesty acid. This is a sleek, lithe, yet subtly muscular Pinot. Maturity window: 2013-2025."

18/20 (93) points Decanter: "Raspberry nose, lifted and not too oaky. Full-bodied and spicy, with more force than the Beaux Frères Vineyard bottling, showing freshness as well as depth. Good length and fine potential. Drink: 2014-2025. Alcohol 14.1%. (Feb 2013)"
92 points Josh Raynolds (International Wine Cellar): "Deep red with a bright rim. Exotically perfumed nose displays an array of dark fruit and floral scents, along with notes of Asian spices, anise and lavender. Shows very good depth and a surprisingly lithe character, with energetic raspberry and cherry flavors and notes of floral pastilles and licorice. A spicy quality adds energy to the long, sweet, silky finish. This is very young still. (Jul/Aug 2011)"
Producer notes: "Medium ruby hued, this wine exhibits notes of red currants and sandy, loamy undertones. Medium bodied, spicebox, Christmas fruitcake and herbs. There is a depth and richness that we normally find in this vineyard planted to Dijon clones. This vintage shows a different side of this vineyard one of elegance and light -- the fruit profile is more one of red fruit than the normal dark fruit that we expect. Still complex and slow to reveal itself as this cuvée always is we are still enjoying watching this wine unwind and open up. Right now it is simply giving us hints of what is to come. This should be a wine to enjoy over the next 8+ years."

PinotFile: "[$100 list] 552 cases. The site has sedimentary soils and a slightly higher elevation than the original Beaux Frères Vineyard. Planted on a steep south facing slope to Dijon clones 113, 114, 115, 667 and 777. (11/26/12)"
Producer notes: "This cuvee tends to lean towards the Côte de Nuits style of Pinot Noir. Dark ruby color with a hint of plum, Asian spice and forest floor on the nose as well as a spectrum of darker flavors to match. This is the richest and fullest of the three cuvees with great acidity and a multilayered mouth-feel. The texture is silky and enticing with moderate tannins suggesting a wine with aging potential. This cuvee should age well for 12-15 years. Case production: 552."

Finely etched red berry flavors are given spine by a nervy mineral quality and pick up a rose pastille note on the back end. Finishes with a sweeter black raspberry quality and very good, sneaky persistence. This wine should age nicely on its balance and freshness. (May/Jun 2009)"
90 points Wine Spectator: "[$50 list] Light, silky and inviting, with a gossamer texture letting the delicate blueberry, cherry and nutmeg flavors slip easily through the long, enticing finish. Drink now through 2012. 2,414 cases made. (10/15/09)"
Producer notes: "Our 2007 Willamette Valley wine shows a delicate medium ruby color and very expressive aromas consisting of sweet cherries, a walk through the woods and a splash of white flowers. It consists of wine made from the following vineyards: Beaux Frères, Shea, Upper Terrace, Zena Crown, Amalie Robert and Carabella. The wine represents one of the silkiest and most feminine styles we have made to date. There is no lack of concentration but the equilibrium of all the elements seems to be the cheif hallmark of this very successful vintage. This wine is already delicious to drink now and showing complexity which makes us think that it will be a wine to drink within the first 5-7 years of its life. The balance which is always so critical is there. The tannins are unobtrusive and extremely silky. This is a real crowd pleaser, a very lush and beautifully supple Pinot Noir for the fan of instant gratification."

Deeply pitched red and dark berry flavors show impressive energy and lift, picking up notes of star anise and cinnamon on the back half. Packs a punch but comes off as lithe, with very good finishing clarity and spicy persistence. Drinkable now but balanced to age. (Jul/Aug 2011)"
PinotFile: "13.4% alc... Robin and Mike Murto’s vineyard was established in 1978. Indigenous yeast fermentations, aged 18 months in French oak barrels. No fining or filtration. Moderately deep garnet color in the glass. Aromas of fresh picked red berries with a subtle green stem note. Slightly sweet dark red fruits are lighter weighted and somewhat buried in muscular tannins. Much better two days later from a previously opened and re-corked bottle displaying more vivid fruit and much less aggressive tannin. A good cellar candidate. Very good. (1/10/12)"
Producer notes: "The Estate Reserve will be released next summer, but for now you have this delicious 'junior' version to consider. It is a very expressive young wine with heady aromas of dark red & blue fruits, accented by herbs and woodsmoke. The palate is focused and long, medium bodied, with good underlying structure and perfect acid/tannin balance. This is a very attractive expression of the best attributes of Yamhill-Carlton Pinot. It can be enjoyed now, but will generously reward several years of patient cellaring! 725 cases produced."

Suave and seamless on the palate, offering sappy cherry and floral pastille flavors and notes of cola and tarragon. Gains weight with air and picks up a spicy nuance that carries through the long, clinging, sweet finish. I'd come back to this in about three years. (Jul/Aug 2011)"
Producer notes: "2008 marks a milestone for our estate vineyard -- all of blocks are now at least 10 years old! As the vines move from infancy into adolescence, we are finding it harder and harder each year to 'sort' the individual lots into a hierarchy of wines. This year proved especially difficult since a majority of the barrels 'wanted to be' Estate Reserve. But after an arduous evaluation process, we were finally able to separate the 'merely' really, really good from the truly great. The Estate Reserve will be released next summer, but for now you have this delicious 'junior' version to consider. It is a very expressive young wine with heady aromas of dark red and blue fruits, accented by herbs and woodsmoke. 91 points Allen Meadows (Burghound): "(13.5%). A pure and wonderfully elegant nose offers up a ripe mélange of various red berry fruit scents that are liberally laced with dried floral nuances. There is excellent detail and vibrancy to the silky-textured middle weight flavors that display a tight, focused, dusty and mildly austere finish that delivers impressive length. This built-to-age effort is complex and harmonious. Good stuff and well worth a look. Drink: 2017+. (Oct 2012)"
17.5/20 (91) points Decanter: "Shy nose, but sweet and stylish, and ripe. Medium-bodied but concentrated, with intensity and acidity to balance the solid fruit. Long. Drink: 2014-2022. Alcohol 13.5%. (Feb 2013)"
90 points Josh Raynolds (International Wine Cellar): "Medium red. Musky, spice-accented aromas of dried cherry and licorice, with subtle anise and floral nuances building with air. Juicy and refreshingly bitter, offering sappy red fruit flavors and gentle bracing acidity. Soft tannins give shape to the long, smoky, penetrating finish. This wine drinks very nicely right now, especially with some aeration. (Jul/Aug 2012)"
90 points and 'Best Buy,' Wine Enthusiast: "Bergström’s lineup of Pinot Noir begins where many other wineries finish. This complex, earthy wine shows its fair share of herb and even a hint of stem, but those are offset by crisp, well-defined flavors of cranberry, cherry and spice. A fine example of this winery’s house style. (Mar 2013)"
Producer notes: "The 2010 Cumberland Reserve is our tenth vintage of this flagship blend from Bergstrom Wines and is comprised mostly of the de Lancellotti, Shea and Bergstrom Vineyards. The wine has a vibrant and youthful ruby red color and has a very expressive nose of dark chocolate, black cherry and dark raspberry fruits, sweet violet flowers and a toasty oak driven vanilla spice. The wine is energetic with pure flavors of dark cherry and raspberry which echo on the richly textured palate and are framed in by pie spices, dried rose petal and earth flavors and nuances. The finish on this wine is long and promising with persistence and mouthwatering food-friendliness now but the structure to age and drink well for another 10+ years. Drink now-2022+."

Producer notes: "The perfumed sweetness of the diverse and complex aromas is intoxicatingly delicious and although this wine is lacking the meat and smokehouse aromas that are hallmark of this great site in past vintages, I believe that they will develop with time in the bottle as this wine is currently very youthful and taught. The incense and perfume in the nose appear again on the palate and flavors of wild cane berries and strawberry, rhubarb pie. The finish is textural and layered with the classic Willakenzie soil gravelly tannic backbone and juicy ripe acids which will ensure a great longevity for this wine. Drink: 2013-2030+."
Not yet reviewed; 2010 vintage rated 93 points by International Wine Cellar: "Vivid ruby. Sexy, oak-spiced aromas of black raspberry, cherry and cola, with smoke and Asian spice accents building with air. Sappy and broad on entry, then tighter in the mid-palate, offering intense red and dark berry preserve flavors lifted by tangy acidity. Shows sneaky power on the smoky finish, leaving spice, vanilla and candied lavender notes behind. Give this youthful wine at least another couple years of bottle age."

94 points and 'Year's Best Pinot Noir,' Wine & Spirits: "The wine marries place and vintage with effortless grace. Its generous dark cherry and plum scents flow into a seamless, to-the-rim fullness of flavor, grounded by a dark basalt minerality, which seems to give the wine energy and propulsion. The tension between fruit and structure, between grip and give, makes this wine the sort to age -- or enjoy now with grilled salmon. 370 cases. (Apr 2013)"
92 points David Schildknecht (Wine Advocate): "Combining fruit from several sweet spots on their property (and reflecting two Dijon clones and a bit of Wadenswil), the Bethel Heights 2010 Pinot Noir Casteel Reserve displays a delightfully juicy and flower-bedecked amalgam of red and black currant, elderberry and cherry, as well as a polished feel and saliva-inducing undertone of nut oils and salted, fatty roasting pan scrapings that send my salivary glands into palpitations. And there’s a real ping of energy in this wine’s dynamic and sustained finish. This ought to be worth following for a decade. (Aug 2012)"

'Good (+),' PinotFile: "[$32 list] 12.5% alc., 3,000 cases, screw cap. Composed primarily of older estate vineyard blocks. Aged in 30% new French oak. Moderately deep reddish-purple color in the glass. Penetrating aromas of black cherries, dark red berries, earth and complimentary oak, that really draw you into the glass. Crisp, with a core of earth-kissed dark red stone fruits and berries, wrapped in supple tannins, offering a good cut of acidity, finishing with some aromatic persistence. A solid value priced wine that will work nicely at the dinner table. (9/9/12)"
Producer notes: "Aromas of cedar, black pepper, anise, dried cherries, almond, and hints of sweet oak spice. The palate features fresh raspberries and cherries and mouthwatering acidity over subtle baking spice and cooking chocolate flavors. The finish is long and crisp, framed by fine-grained tannins. The 2010 vintage is built to last, and I suspect these wines will age gracefully for well over a decade. Barrel aged 10 months in French oak (33% new). Certified sustainably grown. 3,042 cases produced. Alcohol 12.5%."

93 points David Schildknecht (Wine Advocate): "Tart blackberry and black raspberry are prominent in Brittan’s 2010 Pinot Noir Basalt Block along with notes of cardamom and fruit pit piquancy, not to mention mineral dimensions suggestive of salt and crushed stone that set up a somehow crystalline, shimmering interaction with vividly fresh fruit such as I would normally only expect from a great white wine. Weighing-in at little more than 13% finished alcohol; this exhibits an uncanny sense of levity. The tannins are evident but ultra-fine, making for a handsome leanness of texture. This finishes with an unforgettably vibrant, sappy, and protracted persistence of the aforementioned fruit and intriguing if ineffable mineral elements. Since the first significant crop from the vines Brittan planted here was in 2008, it’s far too early to do more than speculate as to this wine’s aging potential, but I shall speculate, nonetheless, that it will be worth following for at least a decade. (Aug 2012)"
'Good,' PinotFile: "13.5% alc. Sourced from parts the vineyard with the heaviest concentration of broken sub-marine basalt, resulting in low yielding vines that produce intense flavors. Primarily Pommard, blended with 667, 777 and 115. Aged 9 months in 25% new French oak. Moderately dark reddish-purple color in the glass. Aromas of dark red berries including cranberries, vitamins, and seasoned oak. Dark red raspberry, red plum and red cherry flavors are featured underlain with soft tannins. Finishes with a rush of sour cherry fruit and grapefruit-driven acidity. Not particularly pleasing on its own, but acid can be your friend at the dinner table, and this wine should work nicely with a salad dressed with vinaigrette, deep-fried foods or fish dishes with creamy sauces. 93 points David Schildknecht (Wine Advocate): "Brittan’s 2010 Pinot Noir Gestalt Block smells pungently, intriguingly and unusually of huckleberry, gunpowder green tea, and intimations of marine breeze and quarry dust, all of which latch onto a bitter-edged, palate-staining, sappy matrix of fresh blackberry and black raspberry. If anything (if possible!) even more focused and vibrant than its Basalt Block sibling, this is no less remarkably buoyant and yet more evidently, even blatantly extract-rich, with a firm but polished feel and manifest but fine-grained tannins. There is a savory invigoration of mineral salts and berry seed that I can’t get off my gums. Anticipate, I predict, a decade or more of fascination. (Aug 2012)"

The same fruitiness is apparent on the tongue, with a bright, and fresh edge to the cherry and black raspberry flavor concentration. This drinks well now but has the spine to age. (Sep 2011)"
90 points Wine Spectator: "Light and silky, dancing delicately over refined tannins and lively acidity to show red berry, cinnamon and clove flavors as the finish lingers. Drink now through 2017. (2/29/12)"
90 points and 'Year's Best Pinot Noir,' Wine & Spirits: "Warm and fresh with a scent of ripe strawberries, this wine’s flavors are loose-limbed and juicy, but a fruit skin tannin element holds all that ripeness in check. It’s an ideal red for chilling and drinking as an aperitif. (Oct 2012)"
Producer notes: "A lovely, precocious wine with a brilliant, deep garnet color and seductive, lush aromatics, in this wine spice and fruits dominate. Rich pie cherry and dried cherry impressions, with plummy blue and black fruit for depth and richness anchor the palate and lead to a sweet fruit entry. Tea leaves and spices are assertive, whether showing gingerbread, molasses, nutmeg, cardamon or delicate black pepper. The balance is almost perfect, with great acid, excellent weight without being ponderous, no alcohol apparent, nice breadth and length on the palate, and a bright, clean and elegant finish. Elegance, richness and balance--what we all aspire to. And what a standard-bearing pinot noir should reflect. 14.5% alcohol."

90 points Josh Raynolds (International Wine Cellar): "Bright ruby-red. Spice-accented red berries on the nose, with subtle smoke and floral notes adding complexity. Juicy and precise, with good depth to its strawberry and raspberry flavors. Finishes dry, stony and precise, with very good clarity and clinging florality. (Jul/Aug 2011)"
90 points Wine Spectator: "Bright and jazzy, with a lovely apricot edge to the red berry and spice flavors, dancing a lively jig as the finish persists. Has deftness and charm, too. Drink now through 2018... (2/29/12)"
'Recommended,' Decanter: "Founded in 1992 in the Willamette Valley by Paul Gerrie, ex-Calera winemaker Steve Doerner has been there from the start. Deep colour, fine Pinot nose and all the depth, purity and textured fruit that one could hope for. A lovely wine. Drink: 2013-2014. Alcohol 14.2%. (Feb 2013)"
Producer notes: "14.0% alc., Winemaker Steve Doerner is a master blender and this blend is always a dependable wine. Native yeasts, minimal handling, unfiltered. Always the first Cristom released each vintage, it is an early drinking wine of great value. Moderate reddish-purple color in the glass. Plenty of whole cluster spice on the nose highlighting the strawberry and cherry fruit aromas. Discreetly concentrated flavors of darker red berries accented by hints of anise, earth, chocolate and oak. Juicy and crisp with some firm, dry tannins. Very approachable now, but will benefit from another year in bottle to soften the tannins and boost the charm. Very good. (11/1/11)"

94 points and 'Top 100 Cellar Selections 2012 (#79),' Wine Enthusiast: "[$65 list] Dark, full, generous and ripe to the far edge of elegance, this powerful Pinot is saturated with black fruits, annotated with fennel, pepper, smoke and espresso, the rich and varied flavors rolling right through a lush midpalate and on into a gently fading finish. Retasted over 24-48 hours, it continued to evolve and develop additional nuances. A wine to cellar for a decade or more. Alcohol 14.1%. (Jun 2012)"
93 points Wine Spectator: "[$65 list] Sleek and tangy, tightly focusing its cherry, raspberry and mineral flavors on a taut frame. Finishes with intensity and a hint of black olive. Drink now through 2018. (5/31/12)"
92 points Jay Miller (Wine Advocate): "The 2008 Evenstad Reserve has a super-expressive nose of smoke, spice, mineral, incense, black cherry, and black raspberry. This leads to a medium-bodied, stuffed wine containing layers of ripe fruit, outstanding volume, vibrant acidity, and a lengthy, velvety finish. It will benefit from 2-3 years of additional bottle age and will offer prime drinking from 2012 to 2020. (Oct 2010)"
92 points Connoisseurs' Guide: "[$65 list] Deep, but not in the least overdone and a bit on the firm side in balance, the 2008 Evenstad Reserve is a mid-sized Pinot Noir of quiet complexity and grace with a trim mix of ripe red cherries, sweet oak, green tea and herbs running its length. It is not a big wine, and it shows more a little more lean muscle than fat, and, while it takes on a bit of tightening, last-minute tannin, another few years in the cellar are sure to set most everything right. (Jun 2012)"
91 points - 'Outstanding,' Allen Meadows (Burghound): "(Willamette Valley; 14.1%). This is exceptionally fresh and beautifully complex with a spicy nose of various red berry fruit and floral aromas. The succulent, even opulent medium weight flavors possess a plush mouth feel as the firm yet silky tannins impart a sophisticated texture to the dusty, firm and overtly spicy finish. Because the tannins are so ripe and pliant, this could easily be enjoyed now though for my taste I would allow it to mature for a few more years first. Drink: 2014+. (Jun 2012)"
'2012 Oregon Pinot Noir All-Americans Second Team,' PinotFile: "[$65 list] 14.1% alc. The winery’s flagship wine sourced from estate vineyards in the Dundee Hills and Eola-Amity Hills. First vintage was in 1990. A blend of 40% Pommard, 51% Dijon, and 9% Wädenswil clones sourced primarily from estate vineyards grown in the Dundee Hills (70%) and Eola Hills (30%). Aged 17 months in 72% new French oak barrels. Medium reddish-purple color in the glass. Upon opening, smoky oak and campfire aromas and flavors dominate the fruit. Tasted later in the day from an opened bottle, the wine had blossomed in an extraordinary fashion, with oak receding to the background as a pleasing mocha note, and luscious black cherry and black raspberry fruit marching to the forefront to saturate the mid palate with flavor. A satiny mouth feel leads to a generous, long, and dry finish. I suggest you decant this wine if opened now, or patiently cellar to allow the oak and tannins to further integrate. A great assembly of Pinot clones that will please any Pinot aficionado. (5/14/12)"
