95 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The 2010 Pinot Noir UV-SL Vineyard is the richest and most expressive of these 2010 Pinots. It also shows the best balance of aromatics, fruit, acidity and tannin. Soy, mocha, the blackest of cherries and white flowers are some of the notes that flesh out in the glass. Delicately woven layers of nuance distinguish the UV-SL. This is a striking wine in every way. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2020. (Feb 2012)"
PinotFile: "15.0% alc. Moderately dark reddish-purple color in the glass. Aromas of smoky oak, tea leaf, oil and faint black fruit jam. Oak-infused flavors of dark berries, plum and cassis. Meaty with plenty of dry tannin, finishing juicy with good acidity. A man’s Pinot with full-on extraction displaying more oak at presence than I prefer. Well-crafted in its style. Good. (12/10/12)"

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "Outstanding. So dry and elegant, with such a deft, delicate texture, yet so explosive in fruit and spice. Bone dry, it has notes of herbs, cinnamon, raspberries and white pepper. A gorgeous, complex wine, one to think about and discuss. Alcohol 13.7%. (Jul 2011)"
93 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The 2009 Pinot Noir Monument Tree is beautifully direct, focused and articulate. Dark red cherries, flowers, smoke and minerals wrap around the palate in this firm, beautiful Pinot. This is one of the more structured wines in the Copain lineup. Today it comes across as a bit virile but the tannins should soften with further bottle age. Darker fruits and floral notes reappear on the finish, adding further complexity and nuance. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2021. (Feb 2012)"
93 points Josh Raynolds (International Wine Cellar): "Bright medium red. Highly perfumed bouquet of redcurrant, raspberry, potpourri and Asian spices. A fresh, spicy, precise midweight that offers sweet red fruit and candied rose flavors, with notes of blood orange and white pepper adding urgency. Tangy, focused and pure, finishing with excellent cut and lingering spiciness. (May/Jun 2011)"
Producer notes: "Named for a landmark redwood tree, the Monument Tree vineyard is planted with an eastern sloping exposure, avoiding the late afternoon sun. The wine is a blend of clones 115 and 777, and soils are comprised of decomposed sandstone and loam that are starkly expressed in the spicy fruit they yield. Tasting Notes: Coastal proximity and a lengthy ripening period result in deep, developed and concentrated fruit, as the 2011 Monument Tree Pinot Noir proudly displays. As glorious and commanding as the solitary sentinel redwood that gives the vineyard its name, the Monument Tree is an absolute stunner with a round, silky palate and a long, lingering finish. Alcohol 13.5%."

95 points and 'Top 10 Wines in 2012,' James Suckling: "Intense purity of fruit with blackberries and dried lemon skin. Dark chocolate and coffee. Full body, with a juicy, chewy and ripe palate with green pepper and jalapeno. Lovely fruit too. This with pulled pork would be mind-blowing. Drink or hold. (6/11/12)"
94 points and 'Top 100 Wines of 2012,' Wine & Spirits: "[$55 list] Theresa Heredia blends this wine from Freestone's two estate vineyards, Pastorale and Quarter Moon, after choosing the top blocks for its single-vineyard wines. She then selects the more complex and structured blocks for this blend and the more fruit-forward blocks for Fogdog. It's a dramatic wine in 2009, with layers of flavor immediately implied in the scent -- ripe black cherries, the iodine of kelp and oak softening the minerality of the tannin. The wine's delicious richness becomes explosive with air, the potent structure bringing waves of salty tannins and blasts of red fruit. Effusive rather than complex, this captures the energy of the coast in a wine to pour liberally with roast duck. (Apr 2012)"
92 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "[$55 list] The 2009 Pinot Noir Freestone Vineyards bursts from the glass with an exciting array of sweet black cherries, herbs, dried flowers, licorice and tar, all supported by lively minerality. This focused, beautifully delineated Pinot is first-class all the way. The Freestone bottling is 53% Pastorale Vineyard and 47% Quarter Moon Vineyard. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2019. (Feb 2012)"
92 points Wine Enthusiast: "[$55 list] Enormously ripe in cherries, raspberries, cranberries and dates, almost sweet, except that it’s totally dry, and the acidity is fresh and bright. A big, big wine that dazzles for sheer power, although it’s not especially subtle right now. That could change in the cellar. Give it a few years, and then a good decanting before service. Alcohol 13.5%. (12/31/11)"
PinotFile: "[$55 list] 13.5% alc. From Pastorale and Quarter Moon Vineyards. Aged 15 months in 55% new and 45% two to three-year-old French oak barrels. Moderately deep reddish-purple color in the glass. Subdued nose initially, picking up intensity over time in the glass offering a fresh blend of cherries and berries with a floral element in the background. Very impressive concentration, even sappy on the mid palate with generous and expressive flavors of black cherries, black raspberries and Hoison sauce, lifted by hi-tone acidity and caressed by gentle, ripe tannins. An impressive hedonistic style of wine with the right touch of acidity, a creamy mouth feel and admirable balance. Excellent aging potential. (11/30/11)"

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "[$48 list] A top-rank Pinot Noir, dry, silky and elegant, with moderate alcohol despite great richness. The flavors of cherries, cola, plums and herbs are simply delicious, while the structure displays great integrity of acids and tannins. A bit tight now in youth, it should unfold over the next eight years. If you pop the cork now, give it a few hours of airing. 605 cases produced. Alcohol 14.2%. (May 2012)"
95 points PinotReport: "[$48 list] Medium-deep ruby color; complex, plum and black cherry aromas with pepper and smoke notes; big, rich, deep pepper and plum flavors with smoky notes; great texture; good structure and balance; long finish. Delicious, deep Pinot with the kind of complexity I've come to expect from this vineyard. Perfect match for grilled lamb or pork. 605 cases made. (1/15/12)"
'Outstanding' and 91 points Allen Meadows (Burghound): "(Sta Rita Hills, 14.2%). A fresh, cool and very pure nose of dark berry fruit liqueur, spiced plum and a bass note of warm earth leads to dusty, textured and beautifully well-focused middle weight flavors that possess plenty of mouth coating extract that buffers the moderately firm and ripe tannic spine. The balance is impeccable and this should age effortlessly over the next decade. Drink: 2016+. (Apr 2012)"
90 points Wine Spectator: "[$48 list] Firm and dense, yet supple around the edges, this offers vivid flavors of wild berry, raspberry, fresh earth and wildflowers, joined by touches of herb and spice. Needs time. Drink now through 2016. 572 cases made. (10/15/11)"
Producer notes: "The wine has a medium-dark ruby color with hints of purple on the edges. The aromas are a complex mixture of herbs, sage, tobacco, redwood and cedar with hints of cherries in the background. On the palate the wine is medium bodied with flavors of black cherries and the earthy elements found in the aroma. The aromas and flavors of our Pinot Noir from Fe Ciega Vineyard are characteristically far more earthy than fruity in nature. Because of the youth, the flavors are somewhat restrained by the moderately extracted and silky tannins. As the wine ages in the bottle, the tannins will soften allowing the flavors to come through. The acidity is well balanced and the oak integration is seamless with the fruit of the wine. It will pair well with a wide variety of foods including crispy duck confit with a red wine reduction, veal cheeks and pork dishes."

95 points and 'Cellar Selection,' Wine Enthusiast: "The vineyard is in the coolest part of the valley, the southerly part Merry Edwards calls the Golden Triangle. The wine is dry, tannic, bright in acidity and insanely rich. Just floods the mouth with cherry, cola, anise, pomegranate and mulberry flavors, with an earthiness suggesting mushrooms. Just great now, with decanting, and will easily develop in the bottle through 2020. abv: 14.4%. (Feb 2012)"
92 points Wine Spectator: "This firm, ripe Pinot features blackberry, black licorice, mineral, berry jam and floral scents, leading to a full body. Well-structured, ending with tight, minerally edge. Drink now through 2018. 730 cases made. (7/27/11)"
PinotFile: "This estate vineyard was originally planted in 2001 to UCD 37 clone (Mt. Eden) and Dijon 828. The 828 was too vigorous on this site and was all grafted over to UCD 37. The vineyard sits in the Laguna Ridge region of the Russian River Valley on the site of the Merry Edwards winery. (7/15/10)"
Producer notes: "Planted in 2001 to my own Pinot Noir clone, UCD 37 (aka Merry's selection), the development of this vineyard has been a rewarding journey for Ken and me. The tiny berries and small clusters characteristic of this selection result in a rich, dense wine of expressive character. The location of this property on Laguna Ridge places it squarely in the heart of Russian River Valley, within 10 miles of the Pacific Ocean and its cooling afternoon breezes. The deep, dark color of this wine heralds the intensity of the 2009 vintage. Expansive and bold, it virtually explodes out of the glass with masses of scrumptious dark fruit -- Santa Rosa plum, blackberry and Bing cherry. Accents of licorice, cocoa bean and perfumed cassis add depth along with underlying notes of earth, cola and toasty oak. This Pinot is a mouthful, packed with ripe, juicy tannins that are fine grained and rich. It possesses an innate lively character and great overall balance. Structure like this will allow continued development far into the future."

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "This shows Merry Edwards’ signature of exceptional deliciousness and drinkability, coupled with seemingly neverending depth. Made using fruit sourced from the winery’s vineyard in the cooler southwestern part of the valley, near Sebastopol, this is rich in acids and soft tannins, but the flavors set it apart. Notes of raspberry, cherry, cola, tea, licorice, pepper and sandalwood abound and evolve with every sip. Drink now-2018. 670 cases produced. (Mar 2013)"
94 points Connoisseurs' Guide: "Even though cast in a riper and fairly substantial style, this very deep and wonderfully well-filled effort captures the fruity purity that marks the very best Russian River Pinots. It is dense, fleshy and full in body, but it is convincingly varietal in focus, and for all of its ample richness and range, it conveys a marked sense of sophistication that bodes quite well for aging. It is, in fact, a wine that wants cellaring and should not be poured in haste, and we would not be surprised in the least if it continued to grow beyond its admittedly impressive youth for another five to eight years. (Feb 2013)"
Producer notes: "The fragrant aroma of this Pinot unfolds with luscious, mouthwatering black raspberries, laced with dark chocolate -- a consistent signature for this wine. Crushed black fruit, syrupy blue plums, black tea, cinnamon and anise expand its broad profile. Bountiful fruit overflows onto the palate leaving in its wake a memory of mellow, yet firm tannins on the long, lavish finish. As the vineyard approaches its 10th birthday, this vintage shows a wonderful, mature balance throughout."

96 points Wine Enthusiast: "Merry Edwards has figured out the magic trick of crafting Pinot Noirs so luscious right out of the gate, you want to drink them now, but that actually are ageable. This one, from the warmer Westside Road area of the valley, is enormously ripe and seductive now, with wild cherry, red licorice, bacon, cola, cocoa and cinnamon spice flavors. Yet the inherent balance of tannins and acids ensures it a long life. What a treat. Now-2016. 545 cases produced. (Aug 2011)"
93 points Connoisseurs' Guide: "The 2008 Flax is a massive, deep, nearly brooding wine that conveys enormous fruit potency, and, while it is long on ripeness and loaded with rich oak, it is not excessive in either. It is supple and meaty and on the full end of the Pinot Noir spectrum, yet its varietal credentials are never in doubt. It smacks of cola, plums, ripe cherries, tobacco and a wee touch of chocolate, and it too is a wine whose very best lies more than a couple of years down the road. (Jun 2011)"
Producer notes: "Cherries are the hallmark character of the Pommard clone and they are generously featured here -- dark Bing and Queen Anne along with fragrant cherry blossoms. Hints of red roses, spicy oak and brambleberries heighten the appeal of the wine’s mouthwatering aroma. The focused palate displays black plums, licorice and hedgerow fruits. Ripe and rich in the mouth with soft, fine-grained tannins, this Pinot shows the superb balance essential for long-term aging."

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is a brand-new bottling from Merry Edwards. It's her first from Westside Road, which is warmer than her haunting grounds around the southern part of the valley. It's quite a promising debut. The wine is round, soft, charming and complex, with elaborate cherry, blackberry, licorice and cola flavors. It feels important and ageworthy. Drink now, with several hours of decanting, or cellar through 2020. abv: 14.4%. (Feb 2012)"
94 points Connoisseurs' Guide: "Built along similar lines as Merry's sturdy Coopersmith bottling, this rich and impressively extracted Pinot is framed by evident tannins yet is also charged with a wealth of very vital young fruit. It is full, it is firm and it suffers from a few youthful angles and edges, but its fruity persistence and depth are the hallmarks of an ageworthy wine certain to reward three to five years of age. (Feb 2012)"
Producer notes: "On first impression, the wine is the color of a brightly polished garnet, reflecting its fine-boned elegance. The appealing aroma is a medley of summer fruits -- raspberries, fraises du bois, blackberries and currants. A touch of savory, warm brown spice and a woodsy character add charm. Silky, lush and vibrant, Georganne pleases the palate from the first sip."

95 points Connoisseurs' Guide: "As deep, as rich and as well appointed in persistent fruit as any of its stablemates, the Pinot Noir from Ms. Edwards's home property is perhaps the best bred of them all. It is at one and the same time weighty and beautifully balanced, and its composed combination of ripeness, sweet oak and fresh cherries puts it on the track for certain improvement with age. Its sense of vigor and fruity stamina makes us think that it could grow for a decade or more, and, if given the choice, we would exercise patience and wait for at least four or five years before pulling its cork. (Jun 2011)"
94 points Wine Enthusiast: "An enormous wine, rich and complex and tannic enough to cellar. Made from the estate vineyard in the Sebastopol area, it floods the mouth with savory cherry, cola, rhubarb, cocoa and cinnamon spice flavors, wrapped into a silky, velvety texture. Feels classic, but you do want to give it some time. Drink 2012-2016. 1,335 cases produced. (Aug 2011)"
Producer notes: "A dramatic Pinot, it virtually leaps out of the glass, totally capturing our attention. When we explore a glass of this wine, our first impression is a rich, mouthwatering perfume of violets and blueberries. With further aeration, multiple layers reveal aromas of candied black cherry, cocoa and cinnamon. The palate is generous with masses of dark fruit. Its tannins are smooth, sleek and richly integrated -- imparting a silky plushness to the mouth. Superbly balanced acidity gives this Pinot an elevated feeling as though it’s a poised dancer -- a true indication of longevity."

*SPECIAL: Take 10% Off Listed Price! (We'll reduce item's price when processing your order.) 95 points and 'Cellar Selection,' Wine Enthusiast: "Some will critique this Pinot Noir as being too big and extracted, and lacking delicacy. But Olivet Lane Pinots are seldom delicate. You look for massive fruit and elaborate construction, and that's what you find in this fabulously exotic wine. It's a beauty, rich, dense and opulent, with complex cherry, rose petal, dark chocolate and new oak flavors, wrapped into firm, refined tannins. Just gorgeous now, with a few hours of decanting, but it will easily develop bottle nuances for a good eight years. abv: 13.9%. (Feb 2012)"
92 points Connoisseurs' Guide: "Ever so slightly pulled back in ripeness relative to its cellarmates, this supple yet solid young Pinot Noir smacks of cherries and mixed berries with a nice note of oak sweetening its way. It medium-full-bodied, slightly rounded in feel and a bit more sparing in evident tannin, but it, too, shows the fine balance and firm structure to age famously, and there is no doubt that more layering and complexity will emerge over the next several years. (Feb 2012)"
92 points Wine & Spirits: "This is the 25th vintage Merry Edwards has made from the Pellegrini family’s vineyard south of River Road between Santa Rosa and Forestville. The wine defines her style of pinot noir: Plump and voluptuous, with meaty cherry fruit richness, supple tannins and a lasting sense of velvet. There’s a floral hint to this vintage, brightening the dark tone of the fruit. Play its ripe cherry flavors off roast duck. 810 cases. (Apr 2012)"
Producer notes: "An excellent vintage in general, this 2009 Olivet Lane is no exception, fully expressing its classically elegant personality. The stunning aroma is pure and focused -- sweet, succulent red and black cherries, with a gentle hint of dark chocolate and spicy oak. The palate yields rich, floral fruit accented by a bit of black licorice, while the supple entry leads to a satisfying, luscious finish."

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "The pedigree of this rich Pinot Noir is evident right away in the mouthfeel, offering a silky and satiny texture, brightened with citrusy acidity. The flavors immediately kick in with a solid wall of red cherries, licorice, persimmons, pomegranates and cola. An exciting, complex wine to drink now, and it should gather momentum over six years, maybe even longer. 780 cases produced. (Mar 2013)"
Producer notes: "Olivet Lane endures as an elegant, shining star in our portfolio. My relationship with this vineyard has been growing since 1986, when I first met the owner, Bob Pellegrini, now my good friend. The vines are nearly four decades old, and I have been privileged to work closely with these grapes for more than 25 years. It has been a wonderful experience to craft wines from one of the oldest Pinot Noir estates in Russian River Valley. At our company Christmas party in 2011, we enjoyed a 10-year magnum vertical from 2000 through 2009 -- the longevity of Olivet Lane is impressive!
This wine’s color is a beautiful, deep garnet hue, reflecting the unusually low yields common to the 2010 vintage. The aroma is intricate and beguiling -- full of juicy Queen Anne cherries and mouthwatering dark fruit. Floral notes of roses, oak spice and a hint of black licorice add a layered, vibrant complexity. All of this generous fruit spills over into a palate that is satiny and incredibly rich. At release, this exquisite Pinot is showing only a tantalizing glimpse of what the future holds."

97 points Connoisseurs' Guide: "The 2010 roster of Pinots from Williams Selyem arguably ranks with the best we have seen, yet, among the many beauties therein contained, this outstanding effort lodges a hard-to-dispute claim of occupying the very head of an overachieving class. It is as deep and concise and pure in fruit as it is impeccably polished, and its layered flavors of ripe cherries, vanilla, crème caramel and graphite compel sip after satisfying sip. It is amazingly rich, but it is always light on its feet, and we confess that waiting for it to grow into its best some five years hence is sure to be no easy task. (Feb 2013)"
95 points Wine Enthusiast: "This shows the extraordinary richness and complexity that the winery’s estate vineyard has exhibited over its lifetime. It’s vast in cherry, red currant and licorice flavors, plus multiple layers of sautéed mushroom, exotic baking spice, mineral and sweet, smoky sandalwood. It’s also very tannic, with a brisk spine of acidity. Good as it is, it needs time for all the parts to knit together. Better after 2018. Alcohol 13.9%. 285 cases produced. (Mar 2013)"
Producer notes: "This wine is rich and complex with aromas of ripe raspberry, plum, cassis, rosewater, strawberry, raspberry, crème brulee, black cherry cobbler, vanilla bean, sassafras, mushroom, bacon and earth. In the background orange rind, dark chocolate, vanilla bean and velvety tannins combine with fresh acidity to provide a long mouth-watering finish. Strawberry, clove, anise, cinnamon and cardamom flavors dominate the entry and middle palate and the finish lingers with juicy acidity of wild blackberries and pie cherries. I believe this wine will have extraordinary aging potential. Barrel aged in 71% new and 29% 1-year-old oak. Alcohol 13.9%."
