Producer notes: "[$20 list] Vivid fruit and full tannins define the 2011 A to Z Pinot Noir. The wine is pure, displaying pedigree and presence with a beautiful, clear, vibrant red color. Fresh aromas of lush forest berries and cherries lead, followed by more savory aromatics of tobacco, smoke, game, clean earth and flint. In the mouth, a focused attack of concentrated red and blue fruits grows in complexity on the mid-palate with ripe, dense tannins perfectly supported by the weight of the fruit. The wine completely harmonizes with a long finish of complex red fruit and mineral flavors. Alcohol 13.0%."
Not yet reviewed; 2010 vintage rated 89 points by Wine Spectator: "Light and refreshing, open-textured and inviting, offering raspberry, tea leaf and spice flavors that linger delicately. Drink now."

A juicy Pinot, the 2010 stands out for its pliancy and generosity. The up-front style makes the Tina Marie a pure pleasure to drink young, although it doesn’t quite have the pedigree or complexity of the Campbell Ranch. No matter, though, it is striking just the same. A burst of sublime, perfumed fruit graces the finish in this exquisite Pinot. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2020."

'Very good,' PinotFile: "13.2% alc. Moderate reddish-purple color in the glass. Shy aromas of black cherries, rosebush and flint. Middleweight flavors of black cherries, black raspberries, cola and rose water, with a flowery undertone. Well-balanced ripe tannins and a focused, chalky finish leaving behind a lively fruit impression. Not the drive, extract and power we have come to expect from Shea Vineyard in this vintage, but still a wine of interest. Tasted the following day from a previously opened bottle, the nose was very perfumed and flowery with hints of oak and spice, the wine was smooth and soft on the palate, and some appealing spice had been added to the flavor profile. (4/13/13)"
Producer notes: "Botanica is always sappy and sanguine with a taste of wild rose, sour cherries, and blood orange. It is tempting to define them solely by their compelling texture and lush personality, but there is a structural element that is equally striking. This balance between extraordinarily concentrated fruit and intense levels of extract is the essence of the wine."

Producer notes: "Ceras is Botanica’s counterpoint. Its color is more purple than red. It is more about minerals and herbs than fruit and flowers. It is a focused and elegant distillation of rock rather than an opulent cascade of fruit. It is an expression of the geology that lays beneath our land, the tart blue fruits of the coast range and the tender herbs that one finds amongst the trees and mushrooms of the Northwest forest."

Producer notes: "Erratica is named for the giant rocks that are carried on the backs of glaciers and left to rest, alone and isolated, hundreds of miles from their true home. The name refers to the fact that they are of a completely different nature than everything else that lies in the field. Erratica is our most unconventional and experimental wine. Like the solitary rocks it is named after, it is completely unlike anything else. Typically rosé is made in one of two ways. Either it is pressed directly like a white wine, or bled from a fermenter destined for red wine during the first 24 hours. In this conventional sense, this is not rosé; but neither is it red or white. The liquid is macerated on the skins for a little over a week. Somewhere between the 6th and 8th day, the aromatics of the fermentation reach a peak of expression and fill the room with astonishing perfume. At this point, just before it becomes red wine, we siphon the juice from the fermenters and fill the barrels, where the juice finishes its fermentation and ages on the lees for a year before bottling."
Not yet reviewed; 2010 vintage rated 92 points by International Wine Cellar: "(100% pinot noir; made from juice macerated on the skins for roughly a week, after which it was racked into barrels and aged on its lees for a year before bottling): Faded red. A wild, complex bouquet evokes red fruit preserves, cherry pit and potpourri, with a note of orange zest adding lift. Sweet raspberry and cherry flavors are braced by tangy acidity and gain weight and floral character with air. Big but balanced, with excellent finishing cling and spicy persistence. (Jul 2012)"

Ruby red in color with ripe cherry and berry flavors. Soft and elegant, this wine can be enjoyed with wild game dishes and roast meats. Producer notes: "The color is quite striking, with brilliant red ruby hue hinting at the luscious fruit to come. The aromas are abundant with bright cherry, cranberry and brown spice, reminiscent of warm cinnamon toast topped with plum jam. On the palate, the bright cherry opens the show, then evolves into a lush, sweetly spiced plum pudding, coating the mouth with a velvety richness. The acidity is as vibrant as the color, lifting the medley of fruit to lavish heights and augmenting the spicy tones. The wine developsan intense mineral note, adding yet another dimension, lending way to silky tannins and a lengthy finish that will leave you wanting more."

Producer notes: "Dense, dark garnet color. Aromas of juicy dark fruit, moist soil, vanilla and cocoa burst out of the glass. The palate is so rich that it can almost be chewed on. Flavors of pie filling, plum, cured meats and root beer enliven the senses. This wine has structural integrity with great depth. The balanced acidity leads to a provocatively supple finish."

PinotFile: "14.4% alc. Released October 2012. Own-rooted Martini clone planted in 1972. Aged 9 months in French oak barrels. Dark violet color in the glass. 100% de-stemmed, extended cold soak, aged 9 months in 60% new French oak barrels. Plenty to like on the nose with hi-tone aromas of spicy black plums, fresh blackberries and vanilla cream. A big gulp of exotically spiced plum and dark berry fruit is front and center, very seductive, expanding in the mouth, permeating every nook and cranny, and finishing with power, length and a velvety appeal. The creme soda-laced oak and cinnamon and clove spice flavors are complimentary. Similar to the 2010 version which was an 'All-American.' This wine has something unique and recognizable to me. Not even close to classic or Old World traditional Pinot Noir, but it tastes great and drinks seamlessly. Cool package too. (2/28/13)"

Producer notes: "The perfumed sweetness of the diverse and complex aromas is intoxicatingly delicious and although this wine is lacking the meat and smokehouse aromas that are hallmark of this great site in past vintages, I believe that they will develop with time in the bottle as this wine is currently very youthful and taught. The incense and perfume in the nose appear again on the palate and flavors of wild cane berries and strawberry, rhubarb pie. The finish is textural and layered with the classic Willakenzie soil gravelly tannic backbone and juicy ripe acids which will ensure a great longevity for this wine. Drink: 2013-2030+."
Not yet reviewed; 2010 vintage rated 93 points by International Wine Cellar: "Vivid ruby. Sexy, oak-spiced aromas of black raspberry, cherry and cola, with smoke and Asian spice accents building with air. Sappy and broad on entry, then tighter in the mid-palate, offering intense red and dark berry preserve flavors lifted by tangy acidity. Shows sneaky power on the smoky finish, leaving spice, vanilla and candied lavender notes behind. Give this youthful wine at least another couple years of bottle age."

'Good,' PinotFile: "[$29 list] 13.5% alc., pH 3.74, TA 0.50, 15, 207 cases. 100% estate-owned Nielson Vineyard fruit. This wine comes from both older Pinot Noir vines planted on their own rootstock and new vines planted to high density spacing with the latest clones and rootstocks. Aged 10 months in 20% new French oak barrels. Moderately dark reddish-purple color in the glass. Very appealing aromas of black raspberries, black plums, spice, pine and nutscented oak. Mid weight flavors of dark berries, cherries and plums with pleasing hints of cola, spice and herbal oak. A little earthy tone fills the background. This wine is noticeably lighter, fresher and crisper in this vintage. (3/23/13)"
Producer notes: "The Santa Maria Valley is located on an unusual topographic slice of land known as a transverse range. Unlike the majority of California’s wine producing valleys, the orientation is east to west rather than north to south. As a consequence, an unprecedented amount of marine air and accompanying fog is pulled into the vineyards from the nearby Pacific Ocean. The unimpeded flow of cold air from the Pacific Ocean makes our appellation unique."

90 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "[$26 list] Calera’s 2011 Pinot Noir Central Coast wafts from the glass with freshly cut flowers, sweet red berries and mint. This is a fairly laid-back vintage for the wine, with less of the pure breed of the 2009 and 2010, but frankly that may be an unfair comparison as those wines were superb over achievers. The 2011 is more an inline performer. The tense, saline finish laced with pretty floral and spiced notes is lovely. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2018. (Dec 2012)"
Producer notes: "Plum, pomegranate, pink rose petal, boysenberry and the slightest hint of watermelon candy dance from this 2011 Central Coast Pinot Noir. It’s full of boysenberry and spicy cherries jubilee character with nice brightness and delightful flavors of black raspberry and sweet oak. A bit of tartness accents the soft, flowing texture and lively finish. Aged 11 months in 10% new barrels. Alcohol 13.9%."

'Very Good,' PinotFile: "14.5% alc., 300 cases. Moderate reddish-purple color in the glass. Very bright and spicy cherry aroma which builds in intensity over time in the glass. Ornate cherry flavor with accents of Chinese five-spice, cola, anise and oak, displaying soft tannins, no rough edges, and finishing with a hi-tone cherry presence and juicy acidity. More body and nuance the following day from a previously opened bottle. I would suggest cellaring for a year. (3/23/13)"

91 points and 'Year's Best Pinot Noir,' Wine & Spirits: "Clean, subtle and long on red fruit flavor, this is a light-bodied pinot with scents of iodine and minerals that layer over the fruit. It’s strawberry jam without sweetness, the fruit clarity refined by the wine’s salinity. This is Peay’s second label; about half of the fruit came from Peay’s estate vineyard, the balance from the Campbell Ranch, nearby in Annapolis. Serve it with roast fish. (Apr 2013)"
Producer notes: "The 2011 Cep Pinot noir delivers the balance, elegance and complexity you would expect from de-classified barrels of Peay Vineyards Pinot noirs. A larger than normal portion of the little fruit we picked in the 2011 vintage went into Cep, resulting in a pretty, bright and feminine expression of Pinot noir. The high-toned, feminine nose is captivating with light raspberry and strawberry notes mingled with deeper spice and tea notes. The charming fruit and floral notes dance on the palate making the 2011 Cep pinot delicious to enjoy young or with a few years in bottle. 350 cases."

Producer notes: "We had many questions before the harvest, but in barrel, these wines have been a pleasure. Delicious, well-structured, well-balanced. On the nose and on the palate, it is very much a classic expression of our Dundee Hills property, with a touch more black cherry and black fruits than usual. As with 2010, the acidity is bright, and overall, there is nice structure and very good length. I have a feeling this wine will age exceptionally well, easily more than 10 years."
Not yet reviewed; 2010 vintage rated 92 points and 'Editors' Choice' by Wine Enthusiast: "Open and immediately accessible, this is fragrant and gently floral, with clearly defined varietal character. It opens beautifully into an elegant, aromatic and crisply structured wine, with excellent length."

90 points Wine & Spirits: "[$40 list] This wine’s complexity is immediately apparent, but it comes off as hard-edged when first poured. With air, the toughness of the structure begins to rustle toward fruit, still chewy, now relieved by cool scents of kelp and spice. This should reward with cellar time. (Apr 2013)"
Producer notes: "With its tiny crop and unusually cool summer, the 2011 vintage gave us an extraordinarily fresh and sleek Dutton Ranch Pinot. Though the fundamental bright berry core and silky Green Valley tannins are always part and parcel of this wine, there is a particularly vivid aromatic freshness this year, which carries through in its bright acid and low alcohol in the mouth. Red berries combined with black cherry fruit in the nose is underlain with candied rhubarb and a hint of sandalwood and cinnamon. In the mouth, the cherry flavors are carried through on the wonderfully fine tannins--like warm cherry vanilla ice cream in a glass. The finish is exceptionally lengthy, and serves up the accompanying sweet berry cream pie. With our stellar salmon season this year, we like to use a bit in our marinade to make the pairing even more ideal. But don't limit yourself. A beauty of this wine is the boundless possibilities, from herb crusted poultry to grilled fish to slices of goat Gouda. Production: 2,486 cases."

91 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "[$50 list] A model of total elegance and class, the 2011 Pinot Noir from Flowers is absolutely gorgeous. Savory herbs, crushed flowers, licorice, salt, orange peel, mint and plums are all woven together in the glass. Today, the 2011 is impeccably crafted and flat-out gorgeous. Although very much a medium-bodied wine, I would not at all be surprised to see the 2011 blossom with more time in bottle. This is an impressive effort. Unfortunately, the Sonoma Coast was the only 2011 Flowers Pinot I was able to taste, but based on this effort, 2011 is certainly shaping up well here. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2021. (Apr 2013)"
Producer notes: "Deep ruby red color. Aromas of wild berries, savory dried herbs, and subtle earthiness lift elegantly from the glass.
