Producer notes: "[$20 list] Vivid fruit and full tannins define the 2011 A to Z Pinot Noir. The wine is pure, displaying pedigree and presence with a beautiful, clear, vibrant red color. Fresh aromas of lush forest berries and cherries lead, followed by more savory aromatics of tobacco, smoke, game, clean earth and flint. In the mouth, a focused attack of concentrated red and blue fruits grows in complexity on the mid-palate with ripe, dense tannins perfectly supported by the weight of the fruit. The wine completely harmonizes with a long finish of complex red fruit and mineral flavors. Alcohol 13.0%."
Not yet reviewed; 2010 vintage rated 89 points by Wine Spectator: "Light and refreshing, open-textured and inviting, offering raspberry, tea leaf and spice flavors that linger delicately. Drink now."

Producer notes: "This Pinot Noir has a brilliant deep, ruby red color with intense aromas of ripe plum, blackberry, and cherry, highlighted by spice and toasty oak. Fresh, rich ripe flavors of black cherry, cola and plum layered with a subtle touch of vanilla oak and raspberry. Aged in French oak for 10 months."

Producer notes: "Imagine a walk down a Pacific Northwest forest trail in September, the warm, dry smell of firs and sunshine with ripe blackberries hanging off the vines and the cool trickle of a babbling brook over wet stones. That sums up the 2010 Argyle Willamette Valley Pinot Noir. This Pinot Noir has a surprising amount going on in the glass - from up front fruit to earthy complexity and spice nuances. 91 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The 2008 Pinot Noir La Bauge Au-dessus is made from 55% Bien Nacido and 45% Le Bon Climat fruit. This is a richer, deeper style than the Rincon. Layers of dark cherries and plums emerge from this fleshy, pliant Pinot Noir. The inner sweetness and perfume weave through effortlessly to a round, inviting finish. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2018. (Aug 2011)"
90 points Josh Raynolds (International Wine Cellar): "Bright medium red. Redcurrant, cherry, Indian spices and underbrush on the pungent nose. Shows a firm, youthful structure and smoky red fruit flavors, with slow-building spiciness and a hint of bitter herbs. Then turns sweeter on the spicy finish, which is focused and very persistent. This taut, red fruit-driven wine benefits a lot from air; give it at least an hour in a decanter or another few years of bottle aging. (Oct/Nov 2011)"
Producer notes: "Has the usual Bien Nacido hard spice of black pepper, clove, and juniper. La Bauge au Dessus translates into 'the decadent party up above' these vineyards are the highest planting of Pinot Noir at Bien Nacido Vineyard."

Producer notes: "Deep, rich garnet color. The wine opens up with aromas of ripe berries, fresh cranberry, candy apple and malted vanilla, some of which carries through to the palate. There’s a hint of Granny Smith apple on first sip that beautifully balances out the rich cream soda and cherry cola notes. It is an extremely layered wine, both in structure and flavor, with a slight earthiness and sweet oak on the finish. The wine almost contradicts itself, managing to display freshness and maturity all at the same time, which is achieved through careful blending."
Not yet reviewed; 2011 vintage rated 92 points and 'Smart Buys' by Wine Spectator: "Dark and rich, showing toasty mocha oak flavors, with a beam of wild berry, raspberry, cola, vanilla and spice. Long on the finish. Drink now through 2020."

Producer notes: "2011 was an El Nino year which resulted in above average rainfall in Southern San Luis Obispo County. Though we were spared the late spring frost that affected other areas, fruit set was reduced by wet spring conditions and yields were about 30% below average. One of the coolest summers on record resulted in long hang time and grapes with high natural acidity. The resulting wines balance refreshing acidity with concentrated flavors due to the low yields. This pinot noir balances fruity aromas of cherry and raspberry, with savory hints of earth and mineral. This medium bodied wine has flavors of dark fruit and spice box followed by a long, smooth finish. Enjoy with salmon or pork tenderloin. Barrel aged 10 months in 20% new French oak."
Not yet reviewed; 2010 vintage rated 89 points by International Wine Cellar: "Vivid red. Fresh red berries and spices on the fragrant nose. Juicy and precise, with good depth to its strawberry and raspberry flavors. Shows very good intensity on the finish, which is tight, linear and nicely persistent."

'Good,' PinotFile: "[$29 list] 13.5% alc., pH 3.74, TA 0.50, 15, 207 cases. 100% estate-owned Nielson Vineyard fruit. This wine comes from both older Pinot Noir vines planted on their own rootstock and new vines planted to high density spacing with the latest clones and rootstocks. Aged 10 months in 20% new French oak barrels. Moderately dark reddish-purple color in the glass. Very appealing aromas of black raspberries, black plums, spice, pine and nutscented oak. Mid weight flavors of dark berries, cherries and plums with pleasing hints of cola, spice and herbal oak. A little earthy tone fills the background. This wine is noticeably lighter, fresher and crisper in this vintage. (3/23/13)"
Producer notes: "The Santa Maria Valley is located on an unusual topographic slice of land known as a transverse range. Unlike the majority of California’s wine producing valleys, the orientation is east to west rather than north to south. As a consequence, an unprecedented amount of marine air and accompanying fog is pulled into the vineyards from the nearby Pacific Ocean. The unimpeded flow of cold air from the Pacific Ocean makes our appellation unique."

90 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "[$26 list] Calera’s 2011 Pinot Noir Central Coast wafts from the glass with freshly cut flowers, sweet red berries and mint. This is a fairly laid-back vintage for the wine, with less of the pure breed of the 2009 and 2010, but frankly that may be an unfair comparison as those wines were superb over achievers. The 2011 is more an inline performer. The tense, saline finish laced with pretty floral and spiced notes is lovely. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2018. (Dec 2012)"
Producer notes: "Plum, pomegranate, pink rose petal, boysenberry and the slightest hint of watermelon candy dance from this 2011 Central Coast Pinot Noir. It’s full of boysenberry and spicy cherries jubilee character with nice brightness and delightful flavors of black raspberry and sweet oak. A bit of tartness accents the soft, flowing texture and lively finish. Aged 11 months in 10% new barrels. Alcohol 13.9%."

90 points Josh Raynolds (International Wine Cellar): "Bright red. High-pitched red berry and floral aromas are complicated by Asian spices and orange peel. Silky in texture and gently sweet, with vibrant strawberry and black raspberry flavors and a touch of bitter cherry. The supple, intensely fruity finish is spicy, focused and nicely persistent. This drinks well now but has the spine to age. (Sep 2011)"
90 points Wine Spectator: "Light and silky, dancing delicately over refined tannins and lively acidity to show red berry, cinnamon and clove flavors as the finish lingers. Drink now through 2017. (2/29/12)"
90 points and 'Year's Best Pinot Noir,' Wine & Spirits: "Warm and fresh with a scent of ripe strawberries, this wine’s flavors are loose-limbed and juicy, but a fruit skin tannin element holds all that ripeness in check. It’s an ideal red for chilling and drinking as an aperitif. (Oct 2012)"
Producer notes: "A lovely, precocious wine with a brilliant, deep garnet color and seductive, lush aromatics, in this wine spice and fruits dominate. Rich pie cherry and dried cherry impressions, with plummy blue and black fruit for depth and richness anchor the palate and lead to a sweet fruit entry. Tea leaves and spices are assertive, whether showing gingerbread, molasses, nutmeg, cardamon or delicate black pepper. The balance is almost perfect, with great acid, excellent weight without being ponderous, no alcohol apparent, nice breadth and length on the palate, and a bright, clean and elegant finish. Elegance, richness and balance--what we all aspire to. And what a standard-bearing pinot noir should reflect. 14.5% alcohol."

90 points Jay Miller (Wine Advocate): "The 2009 Pinot Noir Blue Label was sourced from four estate parcels, fermented with native yeasts and aged in 25% new French oak for 11 months. It offers up an alluring bouquet of balsam wood, lilacs, spice box, black cherry, and black raspberry. This leads to a firm, savory, elegant, velvety textured wine that will provide enjoyment over the next 7-8 years. (Oct 2011)"
It isn't every day that we can offer a domestic Pinot Noir of superb pedigree at such a phenomenally low price. Thiis wine is as Burgundian in style as any California Pinot we've ever tasted. Founded in Oregon in 2005, Evening Land is the Pinot project of entrepreneurial prodigy Mark Tarlov. Along with partners (who include restaurant tycoon Danny Meyer and CEO of the James Beard Foundation Dorothy Cann Hamilton), Evening Land took the reins at the celebrated Seven Springs Vineyard in the Eola-Amity Hills AVA and began making domestic Pinot from the same fruit that had served as a base for some of Oregon's luxury cuvees. Bringing Dominique Lafon (of Comte Lafon in Burgundy) on board to consult poised Evening Land Vineyards' to compete amongst the top winemakers in Oregon, some of whom have been on the scene for decades. And compete it did, perennially commanding high scores and critical acclaim. But Tarlov didn't stop there. Determined to amass a collection of the finest terroirs in the west coast, he began expanding southward, first purchasing vineyards in Sonoma and eventually on the Central Coast. Enter Sashi Moorman: head honcho winemaker at Stolpman Vineyards, and also at his two side projects Red Car and Piedrasassi. Moorman spent his journeyman days as a chef in New York City and then working as assistant winemaker to Adam Tolmach at Ojai Vineyards. Tarlov tapped Moorman to craft Evening Land's California cuvées thus rounding out the all-star ensemble.
Producer notes: "The 2009 California Blue Label Pinot Noir is sourced from three of California's best AVA's: Santa Rita Hills, Edna Valley, and Sonoma Coast. The richness from the Santa Hills Cuvee is balanced perfectly by the bright, acid driven cuvees from the Edna Valley and the supple fruit-forward wines from the Sonoma Coast. This wine was entirely produced, cellared and bottled by Evening Land. Aromas of fresh red fruits and savory herbs lead to flavors of cranberry, pomegranate, and Bing cherries."

Producer notes: "Beautiful deep red in color with a brilliant edge. Pure red and black fruit aromas of french cherries, raspberries, and blueberries with a hint of exotic spice, nutmeg and earthy tones. The palate is round and lush, filled with smooth tannins, a coating texture that broadens and linger with fresh cherry and blueberries flavors with a mineral tone on the long finish."
Evening Land Vineyards is a group headed by movie magnate Mark Tarlov that also owns Pinot vineyards in the Sonoma Coast and Santa Rita Hills and is making wines in Burgundy. They gained control of one of the Willamette Valley’s prized properties, Seven Springs Vineyard, and created an immediate sensation by signing on Dominique Lafon of Comte Lafon in Burgundy as consulting winemaker.

Deep, complex Pinot with great flavor. Needs more time to develop. (1/15/12)"
90 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "[$55/750ml list] Good bright dark red. Black raspberry, cherry, cola, pepper and flowers on the nose. Creamy and ripe on entry, then firmer in the middle, with lovely perfume and energy to the flavors of raspberry, cranberry, rose petal, brown spices and minerals. Juicy but substantial pinot noir, finishing with piquant pepper and herb notes from vinification with a portion of the stems?? A good deal of juice was declassified into the winery's Fogdog label to protect the quality of this wine. (May/Jun 2011)"
90 points Wine Enthusiast: "[$55/750ml list] So brisk in acidity, you can taste the ocean winds that chill this coastal vineyard at night. It’s also extraordinarily ripe. Few Pinot Noirs get this fruity. Floods the mouth with the essence of raspberries and cherries. The acidity and a firm minerality give it much needed structure. Alcohol 14%. (Sep 2011)"
'Very good (+),' PinotFile: "[$55/750ml list] 14.0% alc. 100% estate-grown from Pastorale and Quarter Moon vineyards. Aged 14 months in 60% new and 40% 2 to 3-year-old French oak barrels. Moderate reddish-purple color in the glass. Lovely aromas of black cherries, exotic spice, brier and cut flowers with a slight hint of tobacco smoke, picking up interest and intensity over time in the glass. Black cherry-driven flavors with pleasing oak and whole cluster spice, slightly dwarfed at this stage by oak. Like cherry pie day at cooking school - cherries, baking spices and very interesting results. A solid wine that will improve in the cellar due to its impeccable structure. (5/16/11)"

Drink now through 2014. 330 cases made. (2011)"
Producer notes: "Made from 100% Pinot Noir grapes this wine is a 'Blanc de Noir', made in the same fashion as Champagne, but minus the bubbles! The fruit was whole cluster pressed right after picking and the lighter, higher quality juices were sent to a 1,000 gallon stainless-steel tank where they were allowed to settle for three days. The juice was then racked off the heavy sediment, leaving behind the color pigments and the tannins, into a second stainless-steel tank where it was inoculated and a slow cool fermentation was allowed to take place to complete dryness. The wine was aged on the lees left behind the by the yeast for six months. The lighter fluffier lees where frequently stirred during this time to provide a beautiful round richness to the body of the wine. The aromatics of this wine are intense and full of fruitiness. Tropical notes such as pineapple, passion fruit, and mango abound, as well as more traditional tree fruit aromas like white peach, Bartlett pear, and golden delicious apple. The wine is enjoyable alone but is amazing paired with seafood and creamier dishes and will accent well with spicier fair. 330 cases produced. Alcohol 13.5%."

Mid weight flavors of black raspberries, black cherries, currants and sandalwood with a hint of citrus on the finish. Smooth and easy to drink with pleasing acidity and fine grain tannins. Even better the next day from a previously opened and re-corked bottle. This is always a dependable wine that is easy on the wallet. You won’t find a better under $20 Pinot Noir anywhere in California. (6/25/12)"
87 points Wine Enthusiast: "[$23 list] There’s a lovely dryness and elegance of mouthfeel to this Pinot Noir that make it instantly appealing. True, it could be richer. But for the price and case availability, it’s a pretty polished wine. Shows tart, bitter cherry, cranberry and cola flavors, with a deft touch of smoky oak. (12/31/11)"
Producer notes: "The 2009 Pinot Noir has a fruit forward nose, along with elegant lavender, earth, and sarsaparilla. The velvety texture is complemented by a rich earthiness, while the berry and clove notes are balanced nicely with the toasty French oak. All these elements play synergistically on the palate with a vibrant acidity which contributes to its lively mouth feel.
