91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Merlot hardly gets richer than this. Just explodes in the mouth with flavors of black cherry, blackberry and chocolate truffle flavors. As sweet as it seems, it’s actually dry, with a wonderful edge of acidity. Drink now. Alcohol 14.3%. (Jun 2012)" 80% Estate Spring Mountain District, 20% Napa Carneros.

Producer notes: "Rich, concentrated aromas of deep black plum and gingerbread, with a hint of black licorice and cinnamon. Vibrant cherry flavors on a full tilt youthful tannic structure... This Merlot is packed with flavor and texture that has the durability of long term ageing."

Producer notes: "98% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Sauvignon. Enticing and lively red color; beautifully aromatic with black cherry and ripe plum. On the palate a purity of blackcurrant, cedar and mint flavors blend together seamlessly. Soft and supple, this wine has a medium-bodied mouth-feel with plush tannins that integrate with the generous finish. Our favorite pairings for this wine include chicken parmesan, cedar-planked salmon over wild rice, and mushroom pizza. Barrel aged 18 months in French and American oak. Alcohol 14.4%."

John runs a sleepy little one-man operation in the western St. Helena Benchlands. Just a stone's throw from Spottswoode, Ruston Vineyards stands alongside some very heavy hitters in the Napa Valley. Qualitatively, this wine is everything you've come to expect from Ruston's exacting standards. His Merlots are characteristically sleek, with red currant and plum notes, framed with fine tannins and refreshing acidity. It's pleasure in a glass - a great wine for quaffing with friends, or with a tender filet of beef. Production on this vintage was a miniscule 97 cases. We strongly recommend you buy this one while you can.

*SPECIAL: Take 10% Off Listed Price! (We'll reduce item's price when processing your order.) Producer notes: "Merlot has all the potential to make the perfect wine. Merlot, done right, is a symphony. If one or two notes are missing or played in the wrong key, it distracts the listener and everything falls out of balance. When it comes together, just right, its magic. I’ll go out on a limb here. This 2008 Merlot is Beethoven in a bottle. This one touches all of the keys, complex mellow fruit, leather, tar bright berry tanginess , all harmonizing together . Thank you to the Kennific Ranch for making this possible. If you don’t try this wine you are missing a major league, magic, marvelous, majestic, malacissant, made-to-order, mac-daddy, marquee, marrowy, masterful, meaningful, melodic, Merlot moment. I’m just sayin’. Maturation: 12 months, 40% new, 60% one-year-old French oak - 12 months in the bottle. Serve: With intimate friends, when you can focus on the subtleties of this wine. Slow roasted spring lamb with rosemary, with Rossini playing in the background. Marvelous. 420 cases produced."

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "[$24 list] The translucent color and light body warn against aging this wine, but why would you want to? It’s delicious right out of the bottle. Rich in black currant, cherry, violet and cedar, it’s a blend of all five of the classic Bordeaux varieties. (12/31/12)"
Producer notes: "Our 2008 Twomey Single Vineyard Merlot is a luscious wine of moderate alcohol that achieves a beautiful balance between ripeness and freshness. It has a garnet color with purple edges and an enticing nose of perfectly ripe, fresh black cherries, violets, nutmeg and dark chocolate. It has a bright attack and a satiny mouth-feel. The fresh cherry fruit returns on the palate and the wine is full bodied without being cloying. The finish is vibrant with notes of dark chocolate and enough tannic grip to ensure good cellaring. This beautiful Merlot will continue to give drinking pleasure through 2023, with proper cellaring. 92% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc. Barrel aged 13 months in French oak (39% new, 23% once-used, 38% older)."

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "[$28 list] Does just what Merlot is supposed to, deliver a ripe, seductive red wine in a velvety texture. Feels so soft and drink-me-now in the mouth, with waves of blackberries, cherries, red currants, licorice and mocha. (Nov 2011)"
Producer notes: "An approachable, food friendly wine that appeals to both Merlot lovers and Cab fans alike. 81% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Syrah."
