90-92 points Robert Parker: "The 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa, which all comes from Howell Mountain, possesses deep, dark, primordial, blackberry and cassis fruit intermixed with notes of flowers and minerals. It is impressively built, rich, and intense with the gorgeous fruit purity evident in all the Dunn Cabernets. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2020+. (Feb 2005)"
90 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "Good bright ruby. Rather inky aromas of cassis, iron filings, graphite, licorice root and minerals.Ripe flavors of dark berries, sassafras and minerals; not particularly sweet but more accessible today than the Howell Mountain bottling. Finishes with serious, slightly dry tannins and very good length. (Jan/Feb 2007)"

95 points Robert Parker: "The bottled 2003 Harlan Estate is as good or even better than I had hoped. With a dark ruby/purple color, silky tannin, and abundant quantities of licorice, graphite, chocolate, espresso, black currant, truffle, and earthy characteristics, it comes across like a hypothetical blend of a top-notch Pauillac and Graves. Superb texture, low acidity, and gorgeous purity as well as richness suggest it will drink well for two decades or more. (Dec 2006)"
95 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "Good deep ruby-red. Blackcurrant, minerals, graphite, mocha and leather on the nose. Sweet and tightly wound, with a violet topnote and terrific depth of flavor. This powerfully structured wine has plenty of meat on its bones. The tannins are huge but refined. This must be among the three or four longest wines of the vintage, with the violet quality persisting on the aftertaste. (May/Jun 2006)"
94 points Wine Spectator: "Intense, vibrant, firm and focused, with a touch of raciness to the concentrated mocha, blackberry and graphite. Extracted, chewy and firmly tannic, but with tight focus and persistence of flavor.--Non-blind Harlan retrospective (2010). Drink now through 2025. 1,827 cases made. (2010)"
'Top 10 Cabernets of the Year (2006)', Wine News: "Blended with tiny quantities of estate petit verdot, cab franc and merlot, the 2003 Harlan exhibits forward, slightly herbaceous aromas of cassis, white pepper and creamy oak that are replicated on the layered palate, joined by black cherry and blackberry fruit. Supple, curvaceous and complex with a lovely, long, vanilla-tinged finish. This "cult" wine deserves its generous accolades. (1,827 cases) (Dec 2006/Jan 2007)"
The World of Fine Wine: "Sumptuous black-fruit nose, with some minty lift; fruitcake. Very rich and highly concentrated; a bit leathery but has good acidity and remarkable length. (Issue #32; 2011)"

93+ points Robert Parker: "When I first tasted the 2003, I thought it may be better than the 2002 and 2001. One of the top wines of the vintage, it tastes much younger than the 2002, displaying lots of tannin along with hints of melted chocolate, licorice, cedarwood, lead pencil shavings, toffee, blackberries and cassis. It exhibits great fruit and a full-bodied finish, but also some tannins in the finish. Give it another 5-6 years of cellaring, or, if you want to drink it now, decant it for 4-6 hours in advance. (Jun 2012)"
93 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "15.9% alcohol) Full red-ruby. Superripe aromas of plum, mocha, tobacco, caramel and truffle, with a hint of roasted fruits. Thick and voluptuous, with superconcentrated flavors of plum, truffle and mocha. This offers rare sweetness and opulence with just enough mid-palate energy to maintain its shape. Finishes with very suave, lush tannins and lingering notes of caramel and mocha. This one is just this side of too much, with aromas that began almost oxidative, and yet the wine became fresher with extended time in the recorked bottle without any loss of sweetness. A rather extreme vintage in the context of Hundred Acre, but a wine of extravagant breadth and richness. (May/Jun 2006)"

Producer notes: "This organically farmed and certified vineyard is located west of the city of Napa as you climb into the Mt. Veeder district. Here, the vines cover a southwest slope at 515 feet. Cooler than the up valley sites, this vineyard is closest to San Pablo Bay. Like the others, this wine is very dark purple in color. Fragrant berry fruit and multiple spice-like aromas in the nose. A silky, rich but soft tannin structure in the mouth with loads of violets, berries, cassis and spice. 200 cases produced."
