Producer notes: "89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot. Dark purple in its youth, the 2010 Spring Mountain Cabernet has an immediate core of pure black fruit, mostly cassis and blackberry. Full fennel/black licorice and crushed violets are also prevalent. The dark mountain earth minerality is balanced by sweet vanilla bean aromatics from the oak. The wine is quite plush with concentrated raspberry and more gravel mineral tones on the palate. The tannins this year are very firm, with natural mountain acid to balance, demanding some time in the bottle to show its best. Barrel aged 22 months in French oak (70% new and 30% 2-4 years old). Alcohol 14.2%. 914 cases produced."

This wine comes across like a hypothetical blend of California, a great Graves, and something from further north in Bordeaux, such as a Pauillac. 95 points Robert Parker: "The 2006 Futo (75% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot) exhibits a deep ruby/blue/purple color, a flawless integration of tannin, acidity, wood, and alcohol, and gorgeous opulence. While Futo is situated on western hillsides overlooking Oakville, it displays a style that has more in common with the purity and elegance found in Screaming Eagle, which is a few miles to the east, on the valley floor. This beautiful 2006 is a resounding success for this vintage, which had some issues with rustic tannins. It should drink well for 15+ years. This new, tiny operation, with a beautiful vineyard overseen by David Abreu, and Mark Aubert making the wines, had its debut release in 2004, followed by a brilliant 2005. They have continued to build on those successes with compelling wines in both 2006 and 2007. Production is gradually inching up, and should eventually reach 1,000 cases. There are approximately 500 cases each of the 2006 and 2007. Proprietors Tom and Kyle Futo are wine lovers with enough discretionary income to live out their dream. (Dec 2008)"

Deep aromas of black raspberry, cassis, mocha, leather and dark chocolate. Dense and broad but sappy, with lovely lift to the lush flavors of blueberry, brown spices and tobacco. An outsized, opulent Napa Valley red with just enough acidity to keep it fresh. In fact, I find this less roasted than the 2005 release. Our two Cabernet sites are a terrific study in the variances of terroir and how each unique site expresses its imprint on Cabernet Sauvignon. While the Hourglass Estate Cab tends to be more classically styled, the Blueline Cabernet is unapologetically 'Napa Valley' -- rich, lush and bold! Signature Blueline Vineyard aromas of warm blackberry pie (creamy dark fruit and yeasty dough), black cherry, cassis and plum are followed with a slight hint of toasted sage, bay leaf and fennel. On the palate, this Cab has wonderful flavors of black cherry, plum sauce, tobacco and soy, with a long rich finish. The warmer climate of Blueline Vineyard delivers polished tannins with a silky texture and broad mouth-feel. The acidity, a hallmark of the cooler 2010 vintage, delivers freshness and tangy vitality. The tannins are powerful enough to lock down the palate. The grapes, grown in Calistoga, are very ripe in blackberries, currants and dark chocolate, but those tannins are stubbornly astringent. Almost old-fashioned in toughness despite very high alcohol, it’s a curiosity that seems likely to develop in the cellar, but with so little evidence of past vintages, all bets are off. 690 cases produced. 15.4% alcohol."

One of the top wines of the vintage, it tastes much younger than the 2002, displaying lots of tannin along with hints of melted chocolate, licorice, cedarwood, lead pencil shavings, toffee, blackberries and cassis. It exhibits great fruit and a full-bodied finish, but also some tannins in the finish. Give it another 5-6 years of cellaring, or, if you want to drink it now, decant it for 4-6 hours in advance. Thick and voluptuous, with superconcentrated flavors of plum, truffle and mocha. This offers rare sweetness and opulence with just enough mid-palate energy to maintain its shape. Finishes with very suave, lush tannins and lingering notes of caramel and mocha. This one is just this side of too much, with aromas that began almost oxidative, and yet the wine became fresher with extended time in the recorked bottle without any loss of sweetness. A rather extreme vintage in the context of Hundred Acre, but a wine of extravagant breadth and richness. (May/Jun 2006)"

The nose offers up explosive aromas of jammy black fruits, licorice, Asian spices, vanillin, and cedar. Full-bodied as well as exceptionally pure and impressively endowed, this blockbuster yet surprisingly elegant wine cuts a brilliant swath across the palate. It’s made using grapes that are sourced from at least six vineyards scattered from Yountville to St. Helena. Right out of the bottle, it’s a soft, smoothly tannic wine that’s rich in blackberry jam, black currant, blueberry, raspberry, dark chocolate and spice flavors. The wine, which contains small amounts of Petit Verdot and Malbec, is so powerful, it easily carries the 100% new French oak. In 2009, the Insignia is silky and polished, yet there is considerable underlying tannin that needs time to soften. Layers of fruit flow effortlessly to the huge, structured finish. I imagine the 2009 Insignia will enjoy a broad drinking window. It is striking today, but also clearly has the stuffing to age for many, many years. The 2009 is 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Petit Verdot, 4% Merlot. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2029. (Dec 2012)"

Producer notes: "This wine was produced exclusively from grapes grown on the Keenan Estate located in Napa Valley’s Spring Mountain District. Our two blocks of Cabernet Franc were harvested on October 9th and October 27th, 2009. The fruit was hand-picked then, after de-stemming, the must was inoculated with Montrachet yeast and fermented in stainless steel tanks. The wine aged in French and American oak barrels for twenty months. 'Freakishly good' is how we have come to describe this single vineyard Cabernet Franc from our highest elevation vineyard (approx.2000') aptly named the 'Upper Bowl'. Cabernet Franc is simply not supposed to be this delicious. Enjoy now or decades from now."

Brooding and wintry at first, it's a dark and stormy Cabernet, with aromas of leather and cardamom, hints of eucalyptus, and a dense core of black fruit. Spring-like characteristics emerge with air, including the bright flavors of red and black cherries. Plums and blackberries invoke summer on the fully exposed palate, seasoned by aromas of cedar and vanilla. Much like the enduringly beautiful weather we experienced in the fall, the depth of tannin and concentration of fruit linger elegantly on the palate. More so than any wine we produce, this vintage of Bonny's Vineyard is what pairs best with rich, substantial flavors such as a standing rib roast or the finest aged cheese.
