94 points Robert Parker: "Anakota, one of Jess Jackson’s flagship estates, is producing small quantities (about 500 cases of each wine) of outstanding Cabernets intended to showcase the potential of these vineyards on Mount St. Helena in Knight’s Valley. Both are 100% Cabernet Sauvignon planted at 700-900 foot elevations. The wines are aged 14 months in French oak. These impressive offerings establish Anakota as a worthy competitor to Peter Michael’s exceptional Les Pavots proprietary red. (Dec 2008)"
91 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "[$80 list] Good red-ruby. Musky aromas of currant, iron, leather and smoke. Lush, fat and nuanced, with noteworthy purity and depth to its flavors of black cherry, game, spices, mint and earth. Very full and round but not at all sweet or easy. Compared to the Helena Montana, this shows a tad less energy and finishes with more obvious though fine tannins. (May/Jun 2008)"
Producer notes: "The 2005 Helena Dakota Cabernet Sauvignon is a wine with a deep, dark red color. The nose presents notes of vanilla and oak. On the palate is an explosion of red fruits and minerality supported by a very round structure. The tannins are mature and present a long finish with hints of blonde tobacco. This wine can be decanted and enjoyed now, or it can be placed in your cellar. Before 2010, decant for full enjoyment. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Aged 14 months in French oak (70% new). 14.8% alcohol."

92+ points Robert Parker: "The dense purple-colored 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Helena Montana offers sweet aromas and flavors of charcoal/burning embers, blueberries, and black currants, a deep, full-bodied style, silky, but noticeable tannins, and a long, authoritative finish. The overall impression is one of serious substance as well as undeniable complexity and elegance. This 2005 should drink beautifully for 15-20+ years. From a site slightly lower on the slopes, the 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Helena Dakota sees a nearly identical upbringing, but it comes across as a richer wine. Its opaque purple color is followed by a stunning aromatic display of lead pencil shavings, espresso roast, chocolate, blackberries, and cassis. The wine is deep and full-bodied with sweet tannins, decent acidity, a harmonious mouthfeel, and a seamless integration of acidity, oak, tannin, and alcohol. This beauty can be drunk now or cellared for two decades. It is not surprising that Jess Jackson’s winemaker, Pierre Seillan (who is the force behind the brilliant Verite wines) is in charge at Anakota. (Dec 2008)"
92 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "Good full ruby-red. Musky aromas of dark cherry, coffee, tobacco and loam. Sweet, lush and fine-grained, with lovely elegance and life to the flavors of cherry and coffee. Harmonious acidity really extends and lifts the fruit on the back end, which features very suave tannins and outstanding persistence. This goes a step beyond the very good 2004. Jess Jackson notes that this site, on volcanic ash soil, ripens a full two weeks earlier than the Helena Dakota, which is planted on soil rich in iron and clay. (May/Jun 2008)"
Producer notes: "[$80 list] The 2005 Helena Montana Cabernet Sauvignon is a wine with a very elegant and refined nose of black fruits. An initial impression on the palate of vanilla from well integrated oak. The architecture of this wine is well constructed, very spiced, with an extra long finish of minerality infused with soft delicate tannins, attributing to its long aging potential. Before 2010, decant for full enjoyment. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Aged 14 months in French oak (70% new). 15.0% alcohol."

Producer notes: "Calistoga is one of the warmest regions in the Napa Valley and ideal for growing Cabernet Sauvignon. Our Cabernet comes from Barlow Vineyards which is located just south of Calistoga. Aromatically the wine offers ripe black cherry with hints of sweet vanilla. The palate is soft and luscious with flavors of dark plum and blackberry, finishing with soft supple tannins."

Producer notes: "Produced from fruit grown organically in our two small vineyards, both with a unique soil composition of volcanic ash, red clay, and obsidian. The steep hillside vineyard is planted with French and local proprietary clones of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Merlot. The Heritage valley floor vineyard is planted with one of the earliest French Cabernet Sauvignon proprietary clones brought to America. It is the marriage of the fruit of these two vineyards that creates a consistently supple wine with intense dark fruit and complex sensory components. 108 cases produced."

94 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain is a huge, powerful wine that is starting to show the very earliest signs of development. An exotic melange of smoke, tar, camphor and licorice leads to expressive, fleshy fruit as the 2005 opens up in the glass. Hints of tobacco, leather, licorice and spices are layered into the finish. This is a gorgeous wine with lovely mid-palate presence and fleshiness. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2035. (Dec 2011)"
93 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "Deep red-ruby. Complex nose melds cassis, violet, licorice, musky game, black tea and black olive. Denser than the Napa Valley offering but tighter today, with its sweetness currently under wraps. But this serious, backward wine turns sweeter on the back end, finishing with broad, dusty tannins, an intriguing note of tobacco and sneaky length. Structured for a slow evolution in bottle but even today this is not especially austere. (May/Jun 2009)"
Producer notes: "Very, very concentrated, with a formidable core of black currant and blackberry fruit. Bone dry but with that subtle impression of sweetness that comes from ripe Cabernet. Dried mushroom tones contribute an appetizing, savory component and there’s also a trace of black licorice. The tannins are fine-grained and supple, with an impression of chewiness fleshing out the aftertaste. The vivid flavors of the finish suggest a terrific future. Open in 2013."

96 points Wine Spectator: "Smooth, rich and generous, showing plush, supple, deeply concentrated currant, blackberry and wild berry flavors, with savory herb, cedary oak, mineral and pebble notes. Impressive for its combination focus, depth, purity of flavor and finesse. Drink now through 2014. 500 cases made. (8/31/08)"
95+ points Robert Parker: "The 2005, which is again a wine dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, has a dense purple color, gorgeous structure, good acidity, but full-bodied power, a layered mouthfeel, and sweet oak (mostly Taransaud) that integrates beautifully into the black currant and blackberry fruit intermixed with espresso, licorice, and spice. This is another beauty, slightly more restrained and less flamboyant compared to 2004, but built for the long haul. This wine should age for 20-25 years. (Dec 2007)"
93 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "(15.6% alcohol; 80% cabernet sauvignon and 20% merlot) Good medium ruby. Hugely ripe aromas of sappy black raspberry, black cherry, mocha and smoke, with a whiff of maple syrup. Lush, sweet and seductive; a wine of outstanding fullness if not quite the complexity of the 2006, which has the advantage of some cabernet franc. The tannins are remarkably lush, broad and sweet. This was aged in 100% new Taransaud barriques, vs. 90% for the '05. (May/Jun 2008)"

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Famed winemaker Cathy Corison brings her restrained touch to this Cabernet for Lookout Ridge’s guest winemaker series, which benefits charity. It’s a dry, tannic wine that’s a little too young to drink now. But it’s classically proportioned, with lush currant and cedar flavors. Made from Corison’s Kronos Vineyard, it will be best after 2011. Alcohol 14.1%. 80 cases produced. (May 2009)"

Producer notes: "In the nose, this Cabernet Sauvignon has notes of red currant, deep swaths of cherry, and a suggestion of sage and bay leaf. In the mouth, more cherries blanket the palate, with the ranch’s typical volcano smack of the earth. Black tea and plums lead to a strong finish."

93 points Robert Parker: "The 2005 The Absurd (41% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Petit Verdot, and 24% Merlot) is the most intense, extracted wine of the group. However, it needs time in the bottle, no doubt because of the elevated percentage of Petit Verdot. An inky/purple color is followed by incense, camphor, melted licorice, smoke, and blueberry as well as blackberry fruit characteristics. Dense, full-bodied, powerful, and long, this wine appears set for an enjoyable, long life. Give it 2-3 years of bottle age and consume it over the following 15+. (Dec 2008)"
93 points Wine Spectator: "[$150 list] Elegant and stylish, with ripe, fleshy black cherry, currant and wild berry fruit that's pure, focused, full-bodied and complex. Concentrated but not heavy, ending with ripe, rounded tannins. Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Merlot. Drink now through 2016. 212 cases made. (10/15/09)"
91 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "(a blend of 41% cabernet sauvignon, 35% petit verdot and 24% merlot) Saturated ruby-red. At once very ripe and peppery on the nose, offering rich mocha and nutty oak notes. Superripe, sweet and high-toned, with a distinctly exotic quality to the blackberry liqueur and floral flavors. All of these wines have volatile acidity in the comparatively high 0.8 grams per liter range, but this one is the most flamboyant of the bunch. Finishes with substantial ripe tannins. Fans of the style may well score this even higher. (May/Jun 2008)"

94 points Robert Parker: "Although extremely limited in availability, the 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon boasts an inky/ruby/purple color as well as gorgeous aromas of cedar, spice box, black currants, licorice, and a touch of wood spice. Medium to full-bodied with silky tannins, superb concentration, and a beautiful texture, this impressive St.-Julien-styled Napa Cabernet should drink well for 20+ years. (Feb 2010)"
94 points Wine Spectator: "[$175 list] Rich and expressive, with ripe, potent, concentrated tiers of spicy currant, fresh earth, mineral, sage and dried berry flavors that are tight, focused and concentrated, ending with a long, persistent finish. Drink now through 2011. 236 cases made. (6/30/08)"
