95+ points Robert Parker: "[$400 list] The 2006 Howell Mountain has already gone into hiding, but there is no doubting its enormous weight, richness, note of graphite, and minerality. The wine possesses enormous concentration and richness as well as lots of blue and black fruits, but I wouldn’t touch it for 7-10 years. It should keep for 30 years. (Dec 2009)"

The compelling floweriness, blue and black fruits, and full-bodied richness make this one of the most distinctive and extraordinary wines of Napa. Strutting its stuff even more this year than it was last year, it should provide immense pleasure over the next 25+ years. (Dec 2009)"

95+ points Robert Parker: "The 2006 Eloge’s dark plum/ruby color is followed by a sweet kiss of plum, black cherry, earth, licorice, and spice box, a medium to full-bodied wine, abundant tannin, and impressive concentration, purity, and overall complexity. Reasonably evolved, and extremely seductive aromatically, with a slightly structured finish, it can be enjoyed now and over the next 15 years. It is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Cabernet Franc, 7% Petit Verdot, and 3% Merlot. (Dec 2009)"

93+ points Robert Parker: "Alcohol: 14.6%; 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2006 was made from 32% Bancroft Ranch, 24% Steinhauer Ranch, 19% St. Helena Home Vineyard, with smaller amounts from Rancho del Oso, Chabot Vineyard, Marston Ranch and Lampyridae. A big heat wave in July was the salient weather factor in this vintage. The harvest began early and continued for five weeks. Abundant smoke, chocolate, espresso roast, cassis and mocha characteristics are found in this full-bodied, powerful, layered Cabernet. Although not quite as seamless as the nearly perfect 2005 Private Reserve, it is a big, dense beauty from a somewhat forgotten Napa Valley vintage. Give it 3-4 years of cellaring and drink it over the following two decades or more. (Jun 2011)"
93 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "($119 list; 60% from Howell Mountain fruit) Full ruby-red. Cassis and bitter chocolate on the nose, plus a dusty note that quickly blew off. Sweet, creamy and lush, with the classic black fruit, mineral and chocolate notes for which this wine is prized. At once structured and gentle thanks to its mid-palate stuffing. Finishes with big, broad, horizontal tannins that reach the front teeth. Almost deceptively sweet today, but I'd lay it down for at least a few years, as this bottling has a long track record for rewarding cellaring. (May/Jun 2009)"

95+ points Robert Parker: "[$225/750ml list] The real star is the nearly 1,000 case-lot of the Paradise Hills Vineyard Proprietary Red. The dense, opaque plum/purple-hued 2006 Paradise Hills Vineyard exhibits a beautiful, sweet bouquet of melted chocolate, burning embers, blackberries, mocha, espresso roast, cassis, and cherries as well as stunning concentration, and formidable, but velvety, beautifully integrated tannins. This wine comes across like a hypothetical blend of California, a great Graves, and something from further north in Bordeaux, such as a Pauillac. Full-bodied and powerful, it requires 2-4 years of cellaring, and should evolve for 20-25+ years. (Dec 2009)"
95 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "(60% cabernet sauvignon and 40% merlot) Dark ruby-red. Vibrant, complex nose combines currant, minerals, tobacco and brown spices. Wonderfully sweet, lush and fine-grained, with its silky texture enlivened by compelling inner-mouth perfume. Intriguing mineral and licorice notes add to the complexity of this very deep, layered wine, which finishes with spreading tannins and outstanding length. Large-scaled and rather powerful but with a lovely light touch. A superb 2006. (May/Jun 2009)"

Producer notes: "This 85% Cabernet Sauvignon from the famed Oakville appellation and 15% Merlot from Howell Mountain represents the latest blend for our Cuvee bottling. Barrel aged in one hundred percent new French oak barrels for 19 months, this wine has tremendous opulence and massive body, yet like our previous efforts retains a sense of balance and overall harmony. This four barrel blend has come together to offer notes of vanilla, coffee, and blackberries on the nose leading to the core of pure and rich fruit."

94 points Jay Miller (Wine Advocate): "The 2006 Red is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, and Petit Verdot aged in 73% new oak for 33 months. This loaded effort delivers a sexy concoction of toasty oak, exotic spices, and assorted black fruits that titillates the nose. Deftly combining power and elegance, it should see its 20th birthday in peak form. (Aug 2011)"
92 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "(a blend of 30% merlot, 26% cabernet franc, 20% cabernet sauvignon, 14% malbec and 10% petit verdot) Full, bright red. Rich, warm aromas of plum, cherry, redcurrant, tobacco, cocoa powder and minerals. Plump, broad, rich and aromatic in the mouth; really spreads out to coat the palate. At once pliant and focused, with impressive fruit intensity. Finishes broad and very long, with a fine dusting of tannins. (Nov/Dec 2010)"
Producer notes: "Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot. The 2006 displays a complex nose bright cherry and redcurrant fruits, with deeper layers of sage, bay leaf and fragrant spice. An instant explosion of thick, fleshy tannins provide excellent weight and density to the mid-palate and carry on to a lush and lingering finish. Barrel aged in 100% French oak (73% new) for 33 months. Alcohol 14.9%. 679 cases produced."

94 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley is quite a bit richer than the 2005 tasted alongside it. The 2006 shows gorgeous depth as it opens up in the glass. Dark fruit, licorice, smoke and tar are some of the notes that flesh out in this broad-shouldered Cabernet Sauvignon. A creamy, textured finish rounds things out in style. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2026. (Dec 2011)"
Sweet black currant, floral, blueberry, and cassis characteristics emerge from Dunn's 2006 Napa Valley Cab. Yet underneath, the ripe Cabernet flavors fill in the gaps nicely. Tannic and structured, but supple midpalate before the tannins sweep in. Enjoyable now but should last for 15+ years.

95 points Robert Parker: "The 2006 Futo (75% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot) exhibits a deep ruby/blue/purple color, a flawless integration of tannin, acidity, wood, and alcohol, and gorgeous opulence. While Futo is situated on western hillsides overlooking Oakville, it displays a style that has more in common with the purity and elegance found in Screaming Eagle, which is a few miles to the east, on the valley floor. This beautiful 2006 is a resounding success for this vintage, which had some issues with rustic tannins. It should drink well for 15+ years. This new, tiny operation, with a beautiful vineyard overseen by David Abreu, and Mark Aubert making the wines, had its debut release in 2004, followed by a brilliant 2005. They have continued to build on those successes with compelling wines in both 2006 and 2007. Production is gradually inching up, and should eventually reach 1,000 cases. There are approximately 500 cases each of the 2006 and 2007. Proprietors Tom and Kyle Futo are wine lovers with enough discretionary income to live out their dream. (Dec 2008)"
94 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "(15.3% alcohol; a 75/25 blend of cabernet sauvignon and merlot) Very good deep ruby-red. Deep aromas of black raspberry, cassis, mocha, leather and dark chocolate. Dense and broad but sappy, with lovely lift to the lush flavors of blueberry, brown spices and tobacco. An outsized, opulent Napa Valley red with just enough acidity to keep it fresh. In fact, I find this less roasted than the 2005 release. Finishes with huge, dusty, building tannins and excellent length. (May/Jun 2009)"

Producer notes: "OV is our second label. The name is our nod to Oakford Vineyards, which once occupied part of the Futo estate. For two decades Oakford grew and produced wines of character that were true to the property. OV acknowledges this history, the wines and the people behind both. The aromatics of the 2006 OV are vibrant and focused on fresh cherry and red currant layered with exotic spices. These aromatics carry over to the palate. The mouth feel is rich and generous with an abundance of velvety tannin. Matched to the ripe tannin profile, the complexity of this wine evolves further with smoky mineral notes. This red blend is built to improve with bottle aging but will provide an indulgent drinking experience through its youth. 125 cases produced."

Full-bodied, powerful, and tannic, it requires 2-3 years of cellaring, and should drink well for two decades or more... These are big, mountain-styled Cabernets with no shortage of muscle or power. Producer notes: "63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 5% Syrah. The 2006 Hill Family Estate Barrel Blend is a combination of mountain Cabernet from Soda Canyon and valley floor Merlot and Cabernet from the Beau Terre Vineyard and from a few other small select vineyards. The mountain grapes have
intensity and finesse and the valley floor grapes have plushy, friendly palates. At the very last, we added 5% of our Syrah which really tied things together. Tasting notes: The nose has a great Wow factor -- unmistakably Napa in its elegance, but with an earthy blackberry, white sage, and vanilla-spice appeal that really makes you want to take a sip. Soft black cherry fruit opens to creamy but powerful blackberry flavors, melting tannins, and a clean easy finish. Alcohol 15.6%. 985 cases produced."

95+ points Robert Parker: "[$200 list] The 2006 Insignia (95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot; 16,000 cases produced) is a superb effort in this vintage. Another 30+ year wine, it boasts a dense plum/purple color as well as abundant notes of licorice, black currants, charcoal, black olives, and graphite. Full-bodied, pure, and rich with moderately high tannins, it represents a California version of a Bordeaux from Pauillac or St.-Julien. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2045. In case you think the aging curves I have described are unrealistically long, I have the Joseph Phelps regular Cabernets from the mid-seventies as well as the Insignias in my cellar, and those wines are still drinking beautifully at 30+ years of age. Today’s wines are better made. (Dec 2009)"
95 points Connoisseurs' Guide: "[$200 list] 95% Cabernet Sauvignon; 5% Petit Verdot. Already amazingly seductive with wonderfully rich aromas of sweet oak, cocoa and fully expressed fruit making a first-rate introduction, this riveting young wine in no way lets up on the palate and delivers deep, multi-faceted flavors that combine ripeness, sweet oak and very precise fruit in near-perfect proportion. As is often the case with Insignia bottlings, it is so beautifully balanced that it invites early drinking, and, while we do not condemn giving in to its charms, we also would lobby strongly for patience as its best lies years down the line. (Dec 2009)"
95 points International Wine Review: "The 2006 Insignia is a big, earthy wine of considerable weight and tannic structure. It has a nose of smoke and meaty dark fruit and a rich, velvet palate that is superbly balanced and layered with red and black fruit."
94 points Wine Spectator: "[$200 list] Teasing with its floral, spicy cherry, wild berry and currant aromas, this is full-bodied, firm and structured, tight and focused, offering glimpses of what lies ahead with its complex mix of flavors and tightly wound tannins. Yet its finesse and refinement are apparent on the finish. Needs time. Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Best from 2011 through 2018. (10/15/09)"

The '06 Merlot has been aged in 33% new French and American oak barrels for 18 months. The resulting wine shows intense aromas of black cherry, blackberry, and cassis. The bouquet begins with fruity aromas of dried cherries, blueberries and cassis and is followed by spicy aromatic notes of sage and sassafras. The mouthfeel of the wine is full bodied with well-structured tannins, flavors of pomegranate and hints of vanilla. This wine is delicious now and should continue to improve for at least a decade. Dense purple in color, deep, rich, broad, with plenty of tannin and concentration as well as noticeable oak, this wine is a massive Cabernet meant for long-term cellaring. I wouldn’t touch a bottle for 6 to 8 years, then watch it unfold over the following 25-30. (Dec 2009)"
94 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "(includes bits of cabernet franc and petit verdot) Deep red-ruby. Complex, inviting aromas of cassis, graphite, menthol and sexy new oak. Very ripe but bright and classic, with terrific lift to the cassis, mineral and dark chocolate flavors. This boasts remarkably deep fruit for seven-year-old vines and finishes with very sweet, suave tannins and superb length. Husband-and-wife team Bob Levy and Martha McClellan, who are also responsible for making Harlan, Bond, Blankiet and Sloan, consider their 2005 to be a bit more layered and complex, but this one is also a star of its vintage. Producer notes: "Unmistakably Cabernet Sauvignon from 'up the hill' at Long Meadow Ranch. The lovely, earthy aromas smell like the ranch on a warm autumn afternoon. There is plenty of vibrant, forward fruit (plum, black cherry, dried cranberries, blackberry cobbler) to provide a counterpoint and additional layers of interest. The pleasing entry is both structured and broad and yields to an integrated, balanced mid-palate in which all the flavors deepen and blend. The finish is characterized by lingering sweet fruit and a seamless, mouthwatering texture. Producer notes: "Planted by Justin Meyer in 1974 and named for his wife, Bonny's Vineyard went on to become one of Napa Valley's most celebrated Cabernet vineyards and was Silver Oak Cellars' signature bottling for over a dozen vintages. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2006 Bonny's Vineyard is two things at once: a classic example of our family's celebrated Oakville vineyard and a reflection of the weather during the vintage. Brooding and wintry at first, it's a dark and stormy Cabernet, with aromas of leather and cardamom, hints of eucalyptus, and a dense core of black fruit. Spring-like characteristics emerge with air, including the bright flavors of red and black cherries. Plums and blackberries invoke summer on the fully exposed palate, seasoned by aromas of cedar and vanilla. Much like the enduringly beautiful weather we experienced in the fall, the depth of tannin and concentration of fruit linger elegantly on the palate. More so than any wine we produce, this vintage of Bonny's Vineyard is what pairs best with rich, substantial flavors such as a standing rib roast or the finest aged cheese. Barrel aged 35 months in 100% new American oak. Alcohol 13.5%. 147 cases produced."
