90 points and 'Year's Best Zinfandel,' Wine & Spirits: "[$22 list] A blend of small-berried fruit from a hillside vineyard with grapes from the valley floor, this is floral, intensely earthy and powerfully constricted. The blend creates full-bodied richness, bringing in some raisined character that adds complexity to the tighter fruit. A black wine with bountiful tannins to carry it in the cellar. (Feb 2013)"
Producer notes: " We harvested from two individual vineyards on the eastern side of the Dry Creek Valley from early September to early October. One vineyard is hillside with red rocky soil producing smaller berries with flavors of blackberry and blueberry. While the 2nd vineyard has gravelly loam soil located on the valley floor and produces fruit with pronounced flavors of cherry, plum and black pepper. Overall 2009 was a cooler vintage with fewer heat spikes than in past years, so the acidity of this vintage is slightly higher than prior releases. The growing season allowed for uniform ripening in the which led to wines with good structure, balance and complexity. In the glass there are aromas of blackberry, dark cherry, plum, chocolate, spice, black pepper and vanilla. There is mouth filling texture with spicy flavors of blueberry, black pepper, dark fruits and a long finish. Winemaker Kevin Hall notes that 'this is a big wine'."

91 points Wine Spectator: "[$25 list] Elegant and graceful, this highlights its ripe, supple core of plum and black cherry flavors, ending with a peppery edge and fine length. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Drink now through 2021. 450 cases made. (12/15/12)"
90 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "[$25 list] The 2010 Esperance is gorgeous. It boasts dimensions of juiciness and depth that are missing from some of the other 2010s. Dark plums, cherries, licorice and oak meld together beautifully in this juicy, exuberant Rhone blend. In 2010, Esperance is 60% Grenache, 25% Syrah and 15% Mourvedre. It is without question one of the finest Rhone-blends produced in California in its price range. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2015. (Aug 2012)"
90 points Josh Raynolds (International Wine Cellar): "(60% grenache, 25% syrah and 15% mourvedre): Dark ruby. Intensely perfumed scents of black raspberry, boysenberry, sassafras and candied flowers. Juicy and precise in the mouth, offering energetic cherry and dark berry flavors with a touch of bitter chocolate. The floral note comes back on the very long, smoky finish, which features a suave floral quality and fine-grained tannins. (Nov/Dec 2012)"
90 points Rhone Report: "[$25 list] A touch more meaty and spicy, the 2010 Andrew Murray Espérance is a blend of 60% Grenache, 25% Syrah, and 15% Mourvedre that saw 20% new French oak. It offers up a complex bouquet of both red and black fruits, earth, pepper, licorice, and tar to go with a medium to full-bodied, textured, and beautifully fresh palate. The acidity is noticeable here, yet it is integrated into the wine and keeps everything fresh and lively. Enjoy this solid value over the coming 4-6 years. (Dec 2012)"

92 points Rhone Report: "[$25 list] Zingy and lively, the 2011 Andrew Murray RGB Camp 4 Vineyard is a blend of equal parts Roussanne and Grenache Blanc that was aged both in stainless steel and neutral oak. Showing classic aromas of juiced pear, citrus rind, buttered almond, mineral, and a subtle hint of honey, it is decidedly fresh and pure on the palate, with a medium-bodied, detailed, and weightless texture, integrated acidity, and a dry, clean finish. All around beautiful stuff, it can easily stand on its own, or would also be the perfect starter to a meal. Give bottles a quick decant, and drink them over the coming year or two. (Dec 2012)"
90 points Josh Raynolds (International Wine Cellar): "(a 50/50 blend of roussanne and grenache blanc): Light yellow. A highly aromatic bouquet evokes orange zest, ginger and honeysuckle, along with a dusty mineral overtone. Vibrant nectarine and citrus flavors show very good focus and energy, picking up spiciness with air. Finishes dry and refreshingly bitter, with excellent intensity, focus and length. Very grown-up in style, with no excess fat. (Nov/Dec 2012)"
Producer notes: "The RGB is named for the blend of Roussanne and Grenache Blanc, which is a typical white wine blend found in and around the small villages in the south of France. Typically Roussanne, which is more difficult to ripen and thus more rare, takes a backseat to the Grenache Blanc, which is a more neutral tasting grape. We like to richen up this blend a bit and include more of the robust Roussanne. The resulting blend is nearly a 50-50 balance between the two varieties. The grapes were whole cluster pressed and then fermented and aged together in a small, temperature controlled stainless tank. This early blending allowed the flavors to come together more completely. After fermentation, the wine was transferred to neutral French Burgundy barrels to allow a bit more oxygen into the wine, which acted to soften and round out the final wine. The aroma of this wine explodes with white flowers, green apple, a tropical/banana note, and a flinty/minerally note. The aromas find their way onto the palate where you will sense a long, round, viscous mouthfeel made complex with a racy acidity. The RGB is clean, fresh, and ready to drink. It should, however, improve over the next couple of years. 300 cases produced."

93 points Rhone Report: "Coming from the cool climate Watch Hill Vineyard located in the Los Alamos Valley, the 2010 Andrew Murray Syrah Watch Hill Vineyard is a blend of 97% Syrah and 3% Viognier. Aged for 18 months in 33% new French oak, it is complex and perfumed on the nose, with copious raspberry, sappy underbrush, peppercorn, leather, and earth. This leads into a medium-bodied, elegant, and stylish Syrah that builds in stature with air, showing a pure, focused texture, integrated acidity, and a clean, lengthy finish. Taking the better part of the evening to open up, it should be given another year or two in bottle, and consumed over the following 5-8 years. (Dec 2012)"
90 points Josh Raynolds (International Wine Cellar): "[$30 list] Glass-staining ruby. Intense aromas of cassis, blueberry, olive and violet pastille: is this syrah or what? Full and broad on the palate, offering dark berry liqueur flavors framed by dusty tannins that build with aeration. This solid, dense wine finishes with very good power and smoky persistence. I suspect that it will be even better with a bit more bottle age. (Nov/Dec 2012)"
Producer notes: "[$30 list] The Watch Hill Vineyard lies in the cool reaches of the Los Alamos Valley. The grapes are allowed to reach very high maturity levels, while retaining a stunning natural acidity due to warm, sunny days and cool nights, and soils rich in sand and calcareous material. This results in a classic, cool-climate Syrah that is refreshing, rather than heavy or cloying. We added 3% Viognier to this vintage in hommage of our old Roasted Slope Syrah. The 2010 (like the 2009 before) just begged for a little something extra, and the Viognier delivered by lifting the nose and by helping to keep this Syrah remain yummy and dinstinctive. The aromas and flavors lean toward bright red fruits...cherries, raspberries, currants, and cranberries, with just a touch of a floral/violet note (from the Viognier) with a spicy note dominated by fresh black pepper and a dose of sweet French oak. This wine is quite quaffable now, but you will be rewarded if you wait 2-7 years to drink this one. 350 cases produced."

Producer notes: "Imagine a walk down a Pacific Northwest forest trail in September, the warm, dry smell of firs and sunshine with ripe blackberries hanging off the vines and the cool trickle of a babbling brook over wet stones. That sums up the 2010 Argyle Willamette Valley Pinot Noir. This Pinot Noir has a surprising amount going on in the glass - from up front fruit to earthy complexity and spice nuances. 91 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The 2008 Pinot Noir La Bauge Au-dessus is made from 55% Bien Nacido and 45% Le Bon Climat fruit. This is a richer, deeper style than the Rincon. Layers of dark cherries and plums emerge from this fleshy, pliant Pinot Noir. The inner sweetness and perfume weave through effortlessly to a round, inviting finish. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2018. (Aug 2011)"
90 points Josh Raynolds (International Wine Cellar): "Bright medium red. Redcurrant, cherry, Indian spices and underbrush on the pungent nose. Shows a firm, youthful structure and smoky red fruit flavors, with slow-building spiciness and a hint of bitter herbs. Then turns sweeter on the spicy finish, which is focused and very persistent. This taut, red fruit-driven wine benefits a lot from air; give it at least an hour in a decanter or another few years of bottle aging. (Oct/Nov 2011)"
Producer notes: "Has the usual Bien Nacido hard spice of black pepper, clove, and juniper. La Bauge au Dessus translates into 'the decadent party up above' these vineyards are the highest planting of Pinot Noir at Bien Nacido Vineyard."

92 points and 'Editors' Choice,' Wine Enthusiast: "Pretty much as good as Bjornstad’s single-vineyard bottlings. It’s opulent and creamy, with exotic tropical fruit, green apple, pear and honey flavors, elaborately oaked and spicy. Wonderful acidity gives a clean scour to all the richness. Alcohol 14.2%. (Oct 2011)"
Producer notes: "Aromas of creamy vanilla, spice and roasty, toasty creme brulee’ interweave with the rich tropical fruit qualities and then, a mineral aspect of crushed stone. The texture of the wine is rich and opulent with flavors of stone fruit of peach and apricot and vanilla custard. The richness of the wine is beautifully balanced with bright acidity and a solid structure, finally giving way to a long and persistent finish. This wine is unfiltered and unfined and may show an opaque quality, which is entirely natural. 363 cases produced."

Producer notes: "This wine is named after Fred's son Nicolas and is 100% Sauvignon Blanc from the Brander Vineyard Estate. It is a classic example of a white Bordeaux wine; aged sur-lie in 50% new French oak barrels to add richness in flavor and a silky texture, while still showcasing opulent fruit and firm-balanced acidity on the finish. A perfect pairing with Santa Barbara's richer seafood- we're thinking lobster with lemon butter or grilled salmon."

90 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "[$26 list] Calera’s 2011 Pinot Noir Central Coast wafts from the glass with freshly cut flowers, sweet red berries and mint. This is a fairly laid-back vintage for the wine, with less of the pure breed of the 2009 and 2010, but frankly that may be an unfair comparison as those wines were superb over achievers. The 2011 is more an inline performer. The tense, saline finish laced with pretty floral and spiced notes is lovely. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2018. (Dec 2012)"
Producer notes: "Plum, pomegranate, pink rose petal, boysenberry and the slightest hint of watermelon candy dance from this 2011 Central Coast Pinot Noir. It’s full of boysenberry and spicy cherries jubilee character with nice brightness and delightful flavors of black raspberry and sweet oak. 89-91 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The 2011 Zinfandel is a screaming value. Sweet, layered and impeccably balanced, the 2011 is gorgeous from the very first taste. Hints of sweet tobacco, cedar, licorice and dark red cherries all take shape in the glass. This mid-weight, gracious Zinfandel is impeccable. Even better, it is a steal. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2018. (Apr 2013)"
Producer notes: "What makes this particular vintage so good? Consider the vineyards that compose over 90% of this wine -- Fanucchi (planted in 1906), Carlisle (planted in 1927), Rowe (planted in 1906), Rossi (planted in 1910), and Bedrock (planted in 1888). All of these vineyards are designates in their own right. With the exception of Rossi, all contain significant mixed blacks. If you’re a fan of high quality, old-vine Zinfandel at a bargain price, back the truck up. Serious folks, take advantage of my lack of sanity. No one should be selling a wine this good for so little. 677 cases produced. Tasting Note: Medium-dark ruby-garnet. A classic 'zin-berry' (raspberry, cherry) aroma is highlighted by notes of briary spice and black pepper. Smooth and full-bodied on entry, a wave of red fruits envelops the palate while refined tannins build through the finish. The texture and precision of this wine is simply amazing! Drink now. Drink next year. Drink all the way until 2018! No matter what you do, you can’t go wrong!"

93 points and 'Good Value,' Connoisseurs' Guide: "Although the aromas of this vibrant young wine take a bit of time and coaxing to come around, they and the similarly lively and nuanced flavors that follow speak directly to very fresh, wonderfully pure Riesling fruit. We typically find Eroica bottlings to be restrained and a bit backward when still in their first years, and that is the case here. That said, the wine's delicacy should not be seen as a failing, and, if it is an attractive, slightly sweet foil to lighter curries and sundry Southeast Asian foods in the short term, it is impeccably balanced and has years of increasing beauty before it reaches its peak. (Sep 2011)"
93 points and 'Cellar Selection,' Wine Enthusiast: "Complex and compelling, this has a luscious mix of fruits that run the Riesling gamut. It’s creamy and textural, fresh and primary, with exceptional aging potential and fine, juicy, natural acidity. (12/31/12)"
93 points Wine & Spirits: "Eroica in a cool vintage is driven by energy and freshness more than fruit, the acidity providing a cool, angular intensity. In this 2011, scents of peach and honeysuckle give way to stone fruit flavors that feel clean and pure, buoyed by a minerality that keeps the wine en pointe. A tremendous success in a vintage that required care and a sophisticated approach to viticulture. (Dec 2012)"
Producer notes: "The 2011 Eroica Riesling exhibits aromas and flavors of white peach, grapefruit and sweet lime with subtle mineral notes. The mouth-watering acidity is beautifully balanced by flavorful Washington Riesling fruit. After more than a decade we have truly found our 'Eroica style,' striving for beautiful bright fruit with crisp acidity and enhanced mineralilty. Food pairing: Asian dishes, Indian curries, crab, scallops. Alcohol 11%. Residual sugar 2.28 g/100ml."

'Good Value,' Connoisseurs' Guide: "[$22 list] A textbook Merlot in a good many ways, this bottling from the Canoe Ridge Estate is a very supple, ripe-leaning wine that sports a nice sense of juicy young fruit. This drinks well now but has the spine to age. (Sep 2011)"
90 points Wine Spectator: "Light and silky, dancing delicately over refined tannins and lively acidity to show red berry, cinnamon and clove flavors as the finish lingers. Drink now through 2017. (2/29/12)"
90 points and 'Year's Best Pinot Noir,' Wine & Spirits: "Warm and fresh with a scent of ripe strawberries, this wine’s flavors are loose-limbed and juicy, but a fruit skin tannin element holds all that ripeness in check. It’s an ideal red for chilling and drinking as an aperitif. (Oct 2012)"
Producer notes: "A lovely, precocious wine with a brilliant, deep garnet color and seductive, lush aromatics, in this wine spice and fruits dominate. Rich pie cherry and dried cherry impressions, with plummy blue and black fruit for depth and richness anchor the palate and lead to a sweet fruit entry. Tea leaves and spices are assertive, whether showing gingerbread, molasses, nutmeg, cardamon or delicate black pepper. The balance is almost perfect, with great acid, excellent weight without being ponderous, no alcohol apparent, nice breadth and length on the palate, and a bright, clean and elegant finish. Elegance, richness and balance--what we all aspire to. And what a standard-bearing pinot noir should reflect. 14.5% alcohol."

Exotic aromas and flavors meld into mineral notes as the wine opens up in the glass. This entry-level Chardonnay is made entirely in tank. Best of all, it is a terrific value. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2014. (Feb 2012)"

90 points Wine Spectator: "This red combines ripe, rich flavors with a firm backbone, highlighting the dried berry, roasted herb, espresso and savory underbrush notes. Drink now through 2020. (3/31/13)"
Producer notes: "Wonderfully complex on the nose and palate with a heady mix of floral notes, graphite, spice, and pure black fruits. Medium in body with supple, chalky tannins, good structure and a nice, long finish. Ready to drink now after a quick decant, but another year in bottle will meld the flavors even further. Drink over the next 5 years. Alcohol 13.5%."

94 points Connoisseurs' Guide: "[$32 list] Here is an exceptionally well-made Chardonnay that belies the notion that you cannot have it all. It is deep, very well-ripened and rife with rich fruit and oak, but it is also extraordinarily well- balanced and promises to get even better with age. It capably bridges the gulf between the "old" paradigm of ripeness and abundant oak and the new one of fashion that favors firmness and higher acidity instead, and it convincingly captures the best that each has to offer. (May 2013)"
Producer notes: "Immediate impressions of Meyer lemon and orange blossom are followed by aromas of hazelnut, allspice and Fuji apple. On the palate, the wine is sleek and refined, with a lithe texture and mouthwatering acidity. Flavors of citrus, Fuji apple, tangelo and lightly toasted hazelnuts--echo the aromatic impressions of this Chardonnay, creating seamless wine, at once powerful and impeccably balanced. The finish shows the minerality for which Dierberg Chardonnay has become known."
