Enticing aromas of leather and cigar box frame scents of black fruit. Flavors of plums and blackberries are at the fore, woven with umami mushroom/soy nuances, savory herbs, black olive and spice notes. All well integrated and balanced, this wine is enjoyable now, though firm, and will just get better with a little age. 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot, 1% Cabernet Franc.
Not yet reviewed; 2009 vintage rated 95 points and 'Top 100 Wine of 2012 (#89)' by Wine Enthusiast: "Good enough to be a reserve, this includes just 4% Merlot, with the balance Cabernet. Smooth and supple, full of lovely toasty aromatics, it layers rich cherry against the lush barrel spice. A companionable wine, already drinking beautifully, but perfectly fine to cellar for up to a decade. Alcohol 14.8%."

Maintains its focus and persistence on the finish. A new Syrah from Alban, coming from a younger vineyard. Drink now through 2023. 1,200 cases made."

Producer notes: "'We like to produce a 100% Cabernet Franc to give people a chance to see what Cab Franc actually tastes like,' says Winemaker Kevin Hall. It tends to have a softer tannin profile than our Cabernet Sauvignon and the 2010 has flavors of plum, black cherry, vanilla, blueberry and cassis. This is not a heavy wine, but it does have broad mouthfeel and a long, juicy finish. Alcohol 14.0%. 1,520 cases produced."

88 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The 2010 Sin Zin is about as good a bottle of California wine as readers will find for the money. Juicy, rich and varietally expressive, the 2010 impresses for its balance, especially at this price point. Juicy red cherries, tobacco, flowers and mint linger on the expressive, layered finish. This is a terrific effort for a vintage that was very, very hard for Zinfandel. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2015. (Apr 2013)"
Producer notes: "The 2010 includes a small amount of Petite Sirah to broaden the mouthfeel on the wine and add a little more dark fruit to the palate. There are aromas of raspberry, plum, black cherry, and citrus. In the glass there are flavors of plum, cranberry, black cherry, and classic spicy black pepper. The 2010 is a restrained vintage and will reward those with the patience to cellar a few bottles. 98.5% Zinfandel, 1.5% Petite Sirah. Alcohol 14.7%."

93-96 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The estate’s 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Reserve is endowed with serious power and depth. Layers of blue and black fruit, smoke, tobacco and licorice are woven together beautifully. Vivid yet rich and resonant, the 2010 stands out for its exceptional purity and overall harmony. Here, too, the oak needs time to integrate, but tha shouldn’t be an issue, as readers should not plan on opening bottles anytime soon. A creamy, layered finish laced with expressive blue and black fruits rounds things out in style. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2032. (Dec 2012)"

90 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "[$25 list] The 2010 Esperance is gorgeous. It boasts dimensions of juiciness and depth that are missing from some of the other 2010s. Dark plums, cherries, licorice and oak meld together beautifully in this juicy, exuberant Rhone blend. In 2010, Esperance is 60% Grenache, 25% Syrah and 15% Mourvedre. It is without question one of the finest Rhone-blends produced in California in its price range. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2015. (Aug 2012)"
90 points Josh Raynolds (International Wine Cellar): "(60% grenache, 25% syrah and 15% mourvedre): Dark ruby. Intensely perfumed scents of black raspberry, boysenberry, sassafras and candied flowers. Juicy and precise in the mouth, offering energetic cherry and dark berry flavors with a touch of bitter chocolate. The floral note comes back on the very long, smoky finish, which features a suave floral quality and fine-grained tannins. (Nov/Dec 2012)"
90 points Rhone Report: "[$25 list] A touch more meaty and spicy, the 2010 Andrew Murray Espérance is a blend of 60% Grenache, 25% Syrah, and 15% Mourvedre that saw 20% new French oak. It offers up a complex bouquet of both red and black fruits, earth, pepper, licorice, and tar to go with a medium to full-bodied, textured, and beautifully fresh palate. The acidity is noticeable here, yet it is integrated into the wine and keeps everything fresh and lively. Enjoy this solid value over the coming 4-6 years. (Dec 2012)"

93 points Rhone Report: "Coming from the cool climate Watch Hill Vineyard located in the Los Alamos Valley, the 2010 Andrew Murray Syrah Watch Hill Vineyard is a blend of 97% Syrah and 3% Viognier. Aged for 18 months in 33% new French oak, it is complex and perfumed on the nose, with copious raspberry, sappy underbrush, peppercorn, leather, and earth. This leads into a medium-bodied, elegant, and stylish Syrah that builds in stature with air, showing a pure, focused texture, integrated acidity, and a clean, lengthy finish. Taking the better part of the evening to open up, it should be given another year or two in bottle, and consumed over the following 5-8 years. (Dec 2012)"
90 points Josh Raynolds (International Wine Cellar): "[$30 list] Glass-staining ruby. Intense aromas of cassis, blueberry, olive and violet pastille: is this syrah or what? Full and broad on the palate, offering dark berry liqueur flavors framed by dusty tannins that build with aeration. This solid, dense wine finishes with very good power and smoky persistence. I suspect that it will be even better with a bit more bottle age. (Nov/Dec 2012)"
Producer notes: "[$30 list] The Watch Hill Vineyard lies in the cool reaches of the Los Alamos Valley. The grapes are allowed to reach very high maturity levels, while retaining a stunning natural acidity due to warm, sunny days and cool nights, and soils rich in sand and calcareous material. This results in a classic, cool-climate Syrah that is refreshing, rather than heavy or cloying. We added 3% Viognier to this vintage in hommage of our old Roasted Slope Syrah. The 2010 (like the 2009 before) just begged for a little something extra, and the Viognier delivered by lifting the nose and by helping to keep this Syrah remain yummy and dinstinctive. The aromas and flavors lean toward bright red fruits...cherries, raspberries, currants, and cranberries, with just a touch of a floral/violet note (from the Viognier) with a spicy note dominated by fresh black pepper and a dose of sweet French oak. This wine is quite quaffable now, but you will be rewarded if you wait 2-7 years to drink this one. 350 cases produced."

92 points Josh Raynolds (International Wine Cellar): "(12.6% alcohol): Bright red. High-pitched aromas of blackberry and cherry, with complicating notes of potpourri, spicecake and smoky minerals. Tight and energetic, offering a silky texture, intense red and dark fruit flavors, and a subtle lavender pastille quality. Gains flesh and heft with air but with no loss of vivacity or focus. Fine-grained tannins add shape to the spicy, penetrating, very long finish. (May 2012)"
'Good (+),' PinotFile: "12.6% alc. This vineyard is located in the Green Valley and is farmed by owners Ron Black and Stephen Bessone. Medium reddish-purple color in the glass. The nose unfolds slowly in the glass, revealing aromas of dark red cherries and raspberries with hints of clove and other spices. Relatively light in weight and somewhat lean in style, with flavorful black cherry fruit caressed by supple tannins, and underlain with tight acidity. Admirable length with welcome freshness and accessibility. (6/25/12)"
Producer notes: "The nose is rich in exotic kirsch, violets, warm earth, and carnation. The wine’s texture is lush and deep but very well-delineated by balanced acids. While charming now and perhaps our most accessible wine early on, the wine’s focused length and chewy tannins will allow for years of aging."

Producer notes: "100% Pinot Noir from Silver Pines Vineyard, Bennett Valley, Sonoma County. Clones: 80% Mariafeld, 20% Pommard. Raised for 10 months in 100% French oak (80% new). The Vagrant is the only Pinot Noir that will bear the Argot name from the 2010 vintage. The production level is tragically low. What arrives in the glass is a stunning Pinot Noir that will caress every nook and cranny of your sensorial experience. Each bottle we have opened has offered immediate gratification. We believe The Vagrant will reward short term cellaring. We adore this juice." Argot winemaker Justin Harmon crafts small lots of white and red wines including Pinot Noir at Vinify in Santa Rosa.

Producer notes: "Imagine a walk down a Pacific Northwest forest trail in September, the warm, dry smell of firs and sunshine with ripe blackberries hanging off the vines and the cool trickle of a babbling brook over wet stones. 92 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The 2010 Pinot Noir Ritchie Vineyard is an attractive, mid-weight wine laced with sweet red cherries, flowers, spices and French oak. It shows lovely mid-palate sweetness and inner perfume in an attractive, mid-weight style best suited for near-term drinking. Today the Ritchie comes across as just a bit compact and one-dimensional next to the other 2010 Pinots. With air, though, the wine blossoms nicely. Freshly cut roses and spices waft from the delicate, feminine finish. It will be fascinating to follow this precise, crystalline beauty over the coming years. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2020. The 2010 UV needs another year or two in bottle at the very least. There is an element of unrestrained wildness that runs through the 2010 UV. The heavy presence of clay in this site comes through in the wine’s broad-shouldered personality. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2020. (Feb 2012)"
PinotFile: "15.3% alc. Medium reddish-purple color in the glass. The nose highlights blackberry and black plum fruit with a noticeable oak contribution. Soft and smooth with generous flavors of blackberries and black plum sauce accented with hints of oak spice and vanilla. Good

It also shows the best balance of aromatics, fruit, acidity and tannin. Soy, mocha, the blackest of cherries and white flowers are some of the notes that flesh out in the glass. Delicately woven layers of nuance distinguish the UV-SL. This is a striking wine in every way. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2020. (Feb 2012)"
PinotFile: "15.0% alc. Moderately dark reddish-purple color in the glass. Aromas of smoky oak, tea leaf, oil and faint black fruit jam. Oak-infused flavors of dark berries, plum and cassis. Meaty with plenty of dry tannin, finishing juicy with good acidity. A man’s Pinot with full-on extraction displaying more oak at presence than I prefer. Well-crafted in its style. Good. (12/10/12)"

Black fruit, tobacco, incense and crushed rocks are some of the many nuances that unfold as the wine sits in the glass. Tar, asphalt and licorice are layered into the sinewy, powerful finish. The 2010 is a fascinating and totally intriguing Cabernet. The blend is 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. (Dec 2012)"
Producer notes: "89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot. Dark purple in its youth, the 2010 Spring Mountain Cabernet has an immediate core of pure black fruit, mostly cassis and blackberry. Full fennel/black licorice and crushed violets are also prevalent. The dark mountain earth minerality is balanced by sweet vanilla bean aromatics from the oak. The wine is quite plush with concentrated raspberry and more gravel mineral tones on the palate. The tannins this year are very firm, with natural mountain acid to balance, demanding some time in the bottle to show its best. Barrel aged 22 months in French oak (70% new and 30% 2-4 years old). Alcohol 14.2%. 914 cases produced."

Sappy, broad and appealingly sweet, offering lively, spicy dark berry flavors with nuances of soy and candied flowers. Shows plenty of upfront appeal and intense fruit, finishing smooth, spicy and very long. (Jul/Aug 2012)"
93 points Wine Spectator: "[$80 list] This Pinot is impressive for its clarity, transparency and focused blackberry, raspberry and sassafras flavors, hinting at floral and mineral notes as the finish lingers enticingly. Offers elegance and refinement without losing intensity. Drink now through 2020. 1,263 cases made. (9/30/12)"
Producer notes: "If the Willamette Valley is the more hedonistic then this is the more intellectual older sibling -- showing its breeding as well as restraint. This wine as always is 100% from our original estate vineyard. Medium ruby color, aromatically very pure nose of sweet and sour cherries, red currants, pomegranate and even a refreshing touch of ruby red grapefruit. Reminds us of a red-fruited, Cote de Beaune. Medium bodied, elegant, pure and racy. The tannins are extremely well integrated, balanced by zesty acid. This is a sleek, lithe, yet subtly muscular Pinot. Maturity window: 2013-2025."

Producer notes: "This cuvee tends to lean towards the Côte de Nuits style of Pinot Noir. Dark ruby color with a hint of plum, Asian spice and forest floor on the nose as well as a spectrum of darker flavors to match. This is the richest and fullest of the three cuvees with great acidity and a multilayered mouth-feel. The texture is silky and enticing with moderate tannins suggesting a wine with aging potential. This cuvee should age well for 12-15 years. Case production: 552."

There is excellent detail and vibrancy to the silky-textured middle weight flavors that display a tight, focused, dusty and mildly austere finish that delivers impressive length. This built-to-age effort is complex and harmonious. Good stuff and well worth a look. Drink: 2017+. (Oct 2012)"
17.5/20 (91) points Decanter: "Shy nose, but sweet and stylish, and ripe. Medium-bodied but concentrated, with intensity and acidity to balance the solid fruit. Long. Drink: 2014-2022. Alcohol 13.5%. (Feb 2013)"
90 points Josh Raynolds (International Wine Cellar): "Medium red. Musky, spice-accented aromas of dried cherry and licorice, with subtle anise and floral nuances building with air. Juicy and refreshingly bitter, offering sappy red fruit flavors and gentle bracing acidity. Soft tannins give shape to the long, smoky, penetrating finish. This wine drinks very nicely right now, especially with some aeration. (Jul/Aug 2012)"
90 points and 'Best Buy,' Wine Enthusiast: "Bergström’s lineup of Pinot Noir begins where many other wineries finish. This complex, earthy wine shows its fair share of herb and even a hint of stem, but those are offset by crisp, well-defined flavors of cranberry, cherry and spice. A fine example of this winery’s house style. (Mar 2013)"
Producer notes: "The 2010 Cumberland Reserve is our tenth vintage of this flagship blend from Bergstrom Wines and is comprised mostly of the de Lancellotti, Shea and Bergstrom Vineyards. The wine has a vibrant and youthful ruby red color and has a very expressive nose of dark chocolate, black cherry and dark raspberry fruits, sweet violet flowers and a toasty oak driven vanilla spice. The wine is energetic with pure flavors of dark cherry and raspberry which echo on the richly textured palate and are framed in by pie spices, dried rose petal and earth flavors and nuances. The finish on this wine is long and promising with persistence and mouthwatering food-friendliness now but the structure to age and drink well for another 10+ years. Drink now-2022+."

Scented nose offers blackberry, violet and menthol; the most perfumed today of the non-vineyard-designated 2010 bottlings. Suave and fine-grained, with harmonious acidity energizing the flavors of blackberry, licorice, violet and menthol. The seamless finish shows smooth tannins and enticing floral lift. (May/Jun 2013)"
