Producer notes: "[$20 list] Vivid fruit and full tannins define the 2011 A to Z Pinot Noir. The wine is pure, displaying pedigree and presence with a beautiful, clear, vibrant red color. Fresh aromas of lush forest berries and cherries lead, followed by more savory aromatics of tobacco, smoke, game, clean earth and flint. In the mouth, a focused attack of concentrated red and blue fruits grows in complexity on the mid-palate with ripe, dense tannins perfectly supported by the weight of the fruit. The wine completely harmonizes with a long finish of complex red fruit and mineral flavors. Alcohol 13.0%."
Not yet reviewed; 2010 vintage rated 89 points by Wine Spectator: "Light and refreshing, open-textured and inviting, offering raspberry, tea leaf and spice flavors that linger delicately. Drink now."

Enticing aromas of leather and cigar box frame scents of black fruit. Flavors of plums and blackberries are at the fore, woven with umami mushroom/soy nuances, savory herbs, black olive and spice notes. All well integrated and balanced, this wine is enjoyable now, though firm, and will just get better with a little age. 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot, 1% Cabernet Franc.
Not yet reviewed; 2009 vintage rated 95 points and 'Top 100 Wine of 2012 (#89)' by Wine Enthusiast: "Good enough to be a reserve, this includes just 4% Merlot, with the balance Cabernet. Smooth and supple, full of lovely toasty aromatics, it layers rich cherry against the lush barrel spice. A companionable wine, already drinking beautifully, but perfectly fine to cellar for up to a decade. Alcohol 14.8%."

95+ points Robert Parker: "[$400 list] The 2006 Howell Mountain has already gone into hiding, but there is no doubting its enormous weight, richness, note of graphite, and minerality. The wine possesses enormous concentration and richness as well as lots of blue and black fruits, but I wouldn’t touch it for 7-10 years. It should keep for 30 years. (Dec 2009)"

Unique blend of 9 different varietals. Loaded with handsome fruit and delivers big-time flavor. 26% Syrah, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Mourvedre, 9% Grenache, 7% Zinfandel, 5% Touriga Nacional, 5% Pinot Noir, 5% Cinsault, and 4% Roussanne.
WHWC Staff Notes: "This is a favorite winery I have been following for the past 13 years. Located in the far west side of Paso Robles, I first became aware of Adelaida when the winemaker at Justin tipped me off to them. That was just prior to him making the famed Justin Isosceles that was ranked as Wine Spectator's #5 wine of the year. As fate would have it, he left Justin that year to take over winemaking at Adelaida. The School House brand is Adelaida's second label. This is a perfect example of what a multi-varietal blend with some bottle age should taste like. It consists of Syrah 26%, Cabernet Sauvignon 20%, Mourvedre 19%, Grenache 9%, Zinfandel 7%, and equal parts Touriga Nacional, Pinot Noir, Cinsault, and Roussanne. It's just the right amount of jamminess with the alcohol checking in at 14.9%. The wine is full-bodied and all of the nine varietals mesh well together. This bottle would go well with pizza, pasta with a red meat sauce or even a burger. It's drinking really well right now and is in a style that well represents the west side of Paso Robles." - Mark Menchyk

Wine Enthusiast: "[$25 list] A soft, easy wine for drinking now. Based on Grenache, it has cherry pie, mocha, red currant and baking spice flavors. Versatile for pairing with a wide range of foods that call for a medium-bodied red. Alcohol 15%. 600 cases produced. (May 2013)"
Producer notes: "We named this wine in homage of a wonderful restaurant and inn in Vezelay, named L'Espérance. We used the inn as a home-base for much of our early explorations into the Rhône Valley and fell in love with the wines of the southern Rhône region. 'Espérance' translates into 'Hope' from French to English. With this wine, we hope to not only recreate the great red wines of southern France, but we further hope to craft a wine that will inspire your senses the way we were inspired over a decade ago. The 2011 Esperance is the fulfillment of a dream to produce a rich, red wine blend that rivals the famed wines of Gigondas, in the southern Rhône Valley, while retaining an Andrew Murray Vineyards 'house style'. This vintage was given a more serious winemaking regimen with more new oak. I also chose a bigger Syrah to blend in with the Grenache and Mourvedre, so the resulting wine is a bit more profound. I believe this is perhaps the best Espérance that we have ever released. All of the extra effort has yielded a rich, concentrated wine with aromas and flavors of ultra-ripe strawberries, black cherries, and blueberries, mixed in with the spiciness of cinnamon and vanilla from the toasty new French oak. We chose to close the bottle with the Stelvin ScrewCap to preserve the freshness and avoid 'off' flavors. It is a blend of 60% Grenache, 25% Syrah, and 15% Mourvedre that is 100% delicious."

Using intense fruit from the low-yielding hillsides of Stags Leap, Angeline's team crafts quintessential hillside Napa Cabernet. Big, dark, dense fruit flavors are pure and bold on the palate but have a certain poise and agility supported by the bright acid and moderate tannins. There is plenty of ripeness here but it spares you from being overly jammy. The layers of fruit are accompanied by layers of spices, cigar box, chocolate and just the right touch of toasty oak. The well-balanced, complex and robust structure means you can drink this now free of any guilt. However, cellaring will be rewarded for those who have the patience. But who does?
Not yet reviewed; 2008 vintage rated 91 points and 'Editors' Choice' by Wine Enthusiast: "What a nice Cab! It’s so softly intricate, so complex, so dry and interesting, you just want to drink the whole bottle now with anything related to beef. Shows blackberry, black currant and oak flavors, with a fine balance of acids and tannins, and is ready to drink now."

Producer notes: "The wine's nose opens with spicy aromas of carnation, heather, and forest floor. 'Very good,' PinotFile: "13.2% alc. Moderate reddish-purple color in the glass. Shy aromas of black cherries, rosebush and flint. Middleweight flavors of black cherries, black raspberries, cola and rose water, with a flowery undertone. Well-balanced ripe tannins and a focused, chalky finish leaving behind a lively fruit impression. Not the drive, extract and power we have come to expect from Shea Vineyard in this vintage, but still a wine of interest. Tasted the following day from a previously opened bottle, the nose was very perfumed and flowery with hints of oak and spice, the wine was smooth and soft on the palate, and some appealing spice had been added to the flavor profile. (4/13/13)"
Producer notes: "Botanica is always sappy and sanguine with a taste of wild rose, sour cherries, and blood orange. It is tempting to define them solely by their compelling texture and lush personality, but there is a structural element that is equally striking. This balance between extraordinarily concentrated fruit and intense levels of extract is the essence of the wine."

Producer notes: "Ceras is Botanica’s counterpoint. Its color is more purple than red. It is more about minerals and herbs than fruit and flowers. It is a focused and elegant distillation of rock rather than an opulent cascade of fruit. It is an expression of the geology that lays beneath our land, the tart blue fruits of the coast range and the tender herbs that one finds amongst the trees and mushrooms of the Northwest forest."

Blend of Syrah, Zinfandel and Merlot. Apothic Red reveals intense fruit aromas and flavors of blackberry and dark cherry layered with hints of mocha, chocolate and brown spice. The plush, velvety mouthfeel and smooth finish round out this full-bodied red blend. Robert Parker called the 2007 vintage "one of the greatest bargains I have ever tasted from California".
Not yet reviewed; 2010 vintage rated 88 points and 'Best Buy' by Robert Parker: "Apothic’s 2010 Red Blend is slightly more serious... blend of Zinfandel, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, it was aged completely in tank. Big and fruity with a Rhone-like personality, it offers admirable purity, texture and length. Overall, it is a delicious, uncomplicated, straightforward, surprisingly intense, dry red to enjoy over the next year."

Producer notes: "100% Pinot Noir from Silver Pines Vineyard, Bennett Valley, Sonoma County. Clones: 80% Mariafeld, 20% Pommard. Raised for 10 months in 100% French oak (80% new). The Vagrant is the only Pinot Noir that will bear the Argot name from the 2010 vintage. The production level is tragically low. What arrives in the glass is a stunning Pinot Noir that will caress every nook and cranny of your sensorial experience. Each bottle we have opened has offered immediate gratification. We believe The Vagrant will reward short term cellaring. We adore this juice." Argot winemaker Justin Harmon crafts small lots of white and red wines including Pinot Noir at Vinify in Santa Rosa.

Producer notes: "Back by popular demand is the latest version of multi-vintage Impromp2. This is a blend of wine from the cellar of Arns Estate. The wine is made from selections across clones and vintages 2005 - 2009. These are special wines that were not blended with the Arns Estate Cabernet. These small lots were intentionally set aside for this special blend because of their unique character and flavors. The rich older vintages along with the vibrant new vintages offer a great experience for the palate. Flavor characteristics of chocolate, cherries, anise, mulberry, black raspberries adds complexity and charm to this blend you can experience now or cellar for a later enjoyment. 100 cases produced."

Producer notes: "[$55 list] Arns would like to introduce their 5th vintage of 100% Syrah grown at a 1400’ rocky elevation known as Pritchard Hill. The vines were planted by John Arns in the early 1990s. The clonal selection came from Joseph Phelps Vineyards. This vineyard has moderate size berries on its vertical shoot positioned trellis. Flavors are unlike its French counterpart because of the rocky terrain, elevation, warmer and longer summers without interruption of rains. Dominant flavors are blackberries, cassis, ham anise, violets, leather and olive oil. It is truly rich on the palate with long, lingering high notes of acid and refined, but powerful tannins. It cries out for food to accompany its savory and rich flavors. Barrel aged 3 years in French oak (80% new). 65 cases produced."
