96+ points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The 2008 Reva (Syrah) is stunningly beautiful. This is a relatively delicate, feminine Reva that impresses for its length, balance and utter purity of fruit. Dark red cherries, flowers, mint and silky, saline notes wrap around the expressive fruit on the long, polished finish. A hint of truffles adds to the wine’s sensual, totally beguiling personality. In 2008, the Reva is drop-dead gorgeous. Readers should note that, in this vintage, there is no Lorraine or Seymour’s, so the 2008 is a 'super-Reva!' Anticipated maturity: 2013-2020. (Aug 2012)"
95-96 points James Suckling: "Love the spice, game and dark berries, yet reserved and austere. Shows form and firmness. Long and beautiful. Should be in market in November 2012. (5/25/12)"
93-96 points Rhone Report: "The 2008 Alban Vineyards Syrah Reva Alban Estate Vineyard was the only Syrah produced in '08. Showing a lively, more energetic profile than the more heavy weight '06 and '07, it still doesn.t lack for structure, depth, or complexity. Showing loads of tapenade, lavender, blood, and black fruits, medium to full-body, and a beautifully focused, pure texture and finish, this elegant Syrah should still benefit from short term cellaring once released. I love the vibrancy here, and it will be interesting to see how this shows from bottle. (Dec 2011)"
94 points Josh Raynolds (International Wine Cellar): "(raised in French oak, 80% of it new, for 44 months; 15.1% alcohol): Glass-staining purple. Sexy smoke- and spice-accented aromas of candied black and blue fruits and potpourri, with a suggestion of black pepper building with air. Lush and expansive on the palate, offering deeply pitched but lively cassis and blueberry flavors and a suave floral pastille nuance. The spicy note comes back strong on the finish, which shows only a hint of tannins. (Nov/Dec 2012)"

88 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The 2010 Sin Zin is about as good a bottle of California wine as readers will find for the money. Juicy, rich and varietally expressive, the 2010 impresses for its balance, especially at this price point. Juicy red cherries, tobacco, flowers and mint linger on the expressive, layered finish. This is a terrific effort for a vintage that was very, very hard for Zinfandel. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2015. (Apr 2013)"
Producer notes: "The 2010 includes a small amount of Petite Sirah to broaden the mouthfeel on the wine and add a little more dark fruit to the palate. There are aromas of raspberry, plum, black cherry, and citrus. In the glass there are flavors of plum, cranberry, black cherry, and classic spicy black pepper. The 2010 is a restrained vintage and will reward those with the patience to cellar a few bottles. 98.5% Zinfandel, 1.5% Petite Sirah. Alcohol 14.7%."

95+ points Robert Parker: "The 2006 Eloge’s dark plum/ruby color is followed by a sweet kiss of plum, black cherry, earth, licorice, and spice box, a medium to full-bodied wine, abundant tannin, and impressive concentration, purity, and overall complexity. Reasonably evolved, and extremely seductive aromatically, with a slightly structured finish, it can be enjoyed now and over the next 15 years. It is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Cabernet Franc, 7% Petit Verdot, and 3% Merlot. (Dec 2009)"

93 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "Deep, dense and rich, the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Spring Mountain oozes with character and sheer personality. Black fruit, tobacco, incense and crushed rocks are some of the many nuances that unfold as the wine sits in the glass. Tar, asphalt and licorice are layered into the sinewy, powerful finish. The 2010 is a fascinating and totally intriguing Cabernet. The blend is 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. (Dec 2012)"
Producer notes: "89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot. Dark purple in its youth, the 2010 Spring Mountain Cabernet has an immediate core of pure black fruit, mostly cassis and blackberry. Full fennel/black licorice and crushed violets are also prevalent. The dark mountain earth minerality is balanced by sweet vanilla bean aromatics from the oak. The wine is quite plush with concentrated raspberry and more gravel mineral tones on the palate. The tannins this year are very firm, with natural mountain acid to balance, demanding some time in the bottle to show its best. Barrel aged 22 months in French oak (70% new and 30% 2-4 years old). Alcohol 14.2%. 914 cases produced."

While neither as charming nor accessible as the Juliet, it needs 3-4 years of cellaring, and should last for two decades thereafter. (Dec 2009)"

95+ points Robert Parker: "[$225/750ml list] The real star is the nearly 1,000 case-lot of the Paradise Hills Vineyard Proprietary Red. The dense, opaque plum/purple-hued 2006 Paradise Hills Vineyard exhibits a beautiful, sweet bouquet of melted chocolate, burning embers, blackberries, mocha, espresso roast, cassis, and cherries as well as stunning concentration, and formidable, but velvety, beautifully integrated tannins. This wine comes across like a hypothetical blend of California, a great Graves, and something from further north in Bordeaux, such as a Pauillac. Full-bodied and powerful, it requires 2-4 years of cellaring, and should evolve for 20-25+ years. (Dec 2009)"
95 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "(60% cabernet sauvignon and 40% merlot) Dark ruby-red. Vibrant, complex nose combines currant, minerals, tobacco and brown spices. Wonderfully sweet, lush and fine-grained, with its silky texture enlivened by compelling inner-mouth perfume. Intriguing mineral and licorice notes add to the complexity of this very deep, layered wine, which finishes with spreading tannins and outstanding length. Large-scaled and rather powerful but with a lovely light touch. A superb 2006. (May/Jun 2009)"

David Fulton’s bottling is an example of the heights Petite Sirah can reach. The wine is fairly new (the first release was the 1999 vintage) but the vineyard is old...very old. In fact, these are purportedly the oldest Petite Sirah vines in Napa Valley (and possibly California). Founded by David Fulton in 1865, the vineyard and winery are located just a short walk from downtown St. Helena. Handed down generation
by generation, the land exists today as the oldest continuously owned and operated family vineyard in California. The current dry farmed, head trained vineyard is recognized today as an ‘old-vine’ varietal super-site. No doubt about it, this is an intense wine. The pour is inky black displaying dark reds with a deep purple rim. The wine is aged in half new and half two year old French oak barrels. Rising up from a swirling glass are fresh, massive, pure black fruit aromas with hints of blackberry and loganberry, fragrances elegantly revealed in a way rarely seen in this variety. The flavors match the aromatics yet divulge even more with cassis, licorice, and well-integrated oak notes. The texture is a multilayered
coating of round and supple black cherry. At the end of each sip follow rich and mature tannins. The wine allows for current consumption for those who can't wait yet graceful aging for those who prefer patience.

Producer notes: "The 2009 Faust is a benchmark example of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine opens with aromas of red and black cherries, ripe raspberry, hints of violets and a lovely perfume. A lush, full entry on the palate with blackberry, cassis, coffee and dark chocolate flavors leads to a rich, supple mouthfeel. A complex finish with dark fruit lingers in the mouth. The wine continually evolves in the glass, making it worthy of another taste. 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, 3% Malbec. Alcohol 14.2%. Barrel aged 19 months in 100% French oak (30% new)."

95 points Robert Parker: "The 2006 Futo (75% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot) exhibits a deep ruby/blue/purple color, a flawless integration of tannin, acidity, wood, and alcohol, and gorgeous opulence. While Futo is situated on western hillsides overlooking Oakville, it displays a style that has more in common with the purity and elegance found in Screaming Eagle, which is a few miles to the east, on the valley floor. This beautiful 2006 is a resounding success for this vintage, which had some issues with rustic tannins. It should drink well for 15+ years. This new, tiny operation, with a beautiful vineyard overseen by David Abreu, and Mark Aubert making the wines, had its debut release in 2004, followed by a brilliant 2005. They have continued to build on those successes with compelling wines in both 2006 and 2007. Production is gradually inching up, and should eventually reach 1,000 cases. There are approximately 500 cases each of the 2006 and 2007. Proprietors Tom and Kyle Futo are wine lovers with enough discretionary income to live out their dream. (Dec 2008)"
94 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "(15.3% alcohol; a 75/25 blend of cabernet sauvignon and merlot) Very good deep ruby-red. Deep aromas of black raspberry, cassis, mocha, leather and dark chocolate. Dense and broad but sappy, with lovely lift to the lush flavors of blueberry, brown spices and tobacco. An outsized, opulent Napa Valley red with just enough acidity to keep it fresh. In fact, I find this less roasted than the 2005 release. Finishes with huge, dusty, building tannins and excellent length. (May/Jun 2009)"

98 points Robert Parker: "The 2004 Harlan Estate is probably the most precocious and accessible Harlan Estate that this perfectionist team has made. Already compelling, the wine has notes of roasted coffee, charcoal, blackberry, spring flowers, and some background sweet, toasty notes. Dense, fleshy, exuberant, even flamboyant by the standards of Bill Harlan, this wine exhibits no jaggedness or rough edges, has relatively high tannins, but they melt away on the palate. The wine is sensationally well-endowed, long, and rich -- a tour de force in winemaking. They can do no wrong at Harlan, and it is obvious, even in the most challenging vintages such as 1998, that this estate is a true grand cru/first growth, making wines of irrefutable world-class quality. Of course, none of this comes cheap, as the price is now moving up into the league with Screaming Eagle, but there are no shortage of takers. (Dec 2007)"
97 points Wine Spectator: "Firmly structured and tightly wound, with deep, perfumed currant, anise, sage and cedary oak notes, picking up a mineral and pebble edge and ending with a return to the spicy currant fruit. Long and persistent, with tight tannins. Best from 2009 through 2020. 2,126 cases made. Collectibles. (10/15/07)"
97 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "Deep medium ruby. Superripe aromas and flavors of roasted black raspberry, licorice, mocha and minerals; just this side of liqueur-like. Thick, dense and silky but tightly wound and still youthfully closed. This compellingly deep wine boasts outstanding sweetness without coming off as over the top. Finishes with huge but sweet tannins and great length. (May/Jun 2007)"
The World of Fine Wine: "Intense nose, savory and a touch tarry. Fresher and livelier than the nose suggests, very ripe but shows a light touch; has a light herbal tone but is fully ripe. (Issue #32; 2011)"

Very pure cassis and loamy earth aromas follow through to a big bold entry and a dryish full body with great herb and spice accents and long satisfying fruity fade with balanced tannins and a touch of cedar. A great table wine; pair with filet mignon."
Quarterly Review of Wines: "A richly-textured wine, this one has a thick cloak of currant and plum, framed with plenty of toasty-bacon-like oak; the ripeness of the fruit, and subsequent alcohol, is noticeable. Not made for the faint of heart. (Spring 2008)"

Producer notes: "As our new winemaker, Tony Biagi says, 'Terroir is a complex subject. Sometimes it’s just easier to taste it than explain it.' Our two Cabernet sites are a terrific study in the variances of terroir and how each unique site expresses its imprint on Cabernet Sauvignon. While the Hourglass Estate Cab tends to be more classically styled, the Blueline Cabernet is unapologetically 'Napa Valley' -- rich, lush and bold! Signature Blueline Vineyard aromas of warm blackberry pie (creamy dark fruit and yeasty dough), black cherry, cassis and plum are followed with a slight hint of toasted sage, bay leaf and fennel. On the palate, this Cab has wonderful flavors of black cherry, plum sauce, tobacco and soy, with a long rich finish. The warmer climate of Blueline Vineyard delivers polished tannins with a silky texture and broad mouth-feel. The acidity, a hallmark of the cooler 2010 vintage, delivers freshness and tangy vitality. This wine will age beautifully, but its charming approachability may prove too tempting to see how it evolves. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Barrel aged 19 months in French oak (45% new)."
Not yet reviewed; 2009 vintage rated 91 points by Wine Enthusiast: "This is a big, tannic, midnight black Cabernet, rude in youth and barely drinkable. The tannins are powerful enough to lock down the palate. The grapes, grown in Calistoga, are very ripe in blackberries, currants and dark chocolate, but those tannins are stubbornly astringent. Almost old-fashioned in toughness despite very high alcohol, it’s a curiosity that seems likely to develop in the cellar, but with so little evidence of past vintages, all bets are off. 690 cases produced. 15.4% alcohol."

93+ points Robert Parker: "When I first tasted the 2003, I thought it may be better than the 2002 and 2001. One of the top wines of the vintage, it tastes much younger than the 2002, displaying lots of tannin along with hints of melted chocolate, licorice, cedarwood, lead pencil shavings, toffee, blackberries and cassis. It exhibits great fruit and a full-bodied finish, but also some tannins in the finish. Give it another 5-6 years of cellaring, or, if you want to drink it now, decant it for 4-6 hours in advance. (Jun 2012)"
93 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "15.9% alcohol) Full red-ruby. Superripe aromas of plum, mocha, tobacco, caramel and truffle, with a hint of roasted fruits. Thick and voluptuous, with superconcentrated flavors of plum, truffle and mocha. This offers rare sweetness and opulence with just enough mid-palate energy to maintain its shape. Finishes with very suave, lush tannins and lingering notes of caramel and mocha. This one is just this side of too much, with aromas that began almost oxidative, and yet the wine became fresher with extended time in the recorked bottle without any loss of sweetness. A rather extreme vintage in the context of Hundred Acre, but a wine of extravagant breadth and richness. (May/Jun 2006)"

97 points Wine Spectator: "Dense, rich and focused, youthful and concentrated, with hints of maturity on the edge of the core currant, mineral and spicy berry flavors. Wonderful vibrancy and intensity for a wine this age, which only bodes well for the future. A classic. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot.--'97 California Cabernet retrospective. Drink now through 2020. (2008)"
96 points Robert Parker: "The prodigious 1997 Insignia (83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, and 3% Petit Verdot) lives up to its pre-bottling promise. Tasted on three separate occasions, every bottle has hit the bull's eye. The color is a saturated thick-looking blue/purple. The nose offers up explosive aromas of jammy black fruits, licorice, Asian spices, vanillin, and cedar. Full-bodied as well as exceptionally pure and impressively endowed, this blockbuster yet surprisingly elegant wine cuts a brilliant swath across the palate. A seamless effort with beautifully integrated acidity, sweet tannin, and alcohol, it is still an infant, but can be drunk with considerable pleasure. Anticipated maturity: now-2025. (Dec 2000)"
94 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "Full ruby. Supersweet aromas of blackberry, cassis, bitter chocolate, espresso and tobacco. Thick and seamless yet bright and sharply defined. Very long and spicy on the aftertaste, with excellent grip. Sweet tannins coat the teeth. Williams says the selection for Insignia is based on quality and concentration rather than on a particular flavor profile. (May/Jun 2000)"

93 points Robert Parker: "The 2002 Perry’s Blend (62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Merlot and Petit Verdot) exhibits aromas of white flowers, blueberries, black currants, and a hint of wood. Possessing medium to full body, terrific fruit purity, and admirable symmetry as well as elegance, this powerful red wine should drink well for 10-15 years. As I have written before, Carolyn and Perry Butler have quickly made Juslyn one of the finest sources of top quality wine on Spring Mountain. They planted their estate vineyard in 1997 and have been sourcing high quality grapes from several of Andy Beckstoffer’s top Napa Valley vineyards. (Dec 2006)"
91 points Wine Enthusiast: "This Cabernet-based blend has some pedigreed vineyard fruit in it, including Tokalon and Beckstoffer Georges III. It’s extremely soft and complex, but not showing all that well at this moment. Seems a bit closed down, muted. But it’s a very fine wine that probably needs time to open. Drink 2008-2010. 92 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "[$64/750ml list] Tobacco, flowers and new leather are some of the notes that emerge from Keenan’s 2009 Cabernet Franc. Open, radiant and expressive, the 2009 impresses with its mid-palate pliancy and juicy, resonant finish. Stylistically, the 2009 is more about place rather than the truest essence of varietal character, but it is a striking wine just the same. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. (Dec 2012)"
Producer notes: "This wine was produced exclusively from grapes grown on the Keenan Estate located in Napa Valley’s Spring Mountain District. Our two blocks of Cabernet Franc were harvested on October 9th and October 27th, 2009. The fruit was hand-picked then, after de-stemming, the must was inoculated with Montrachet yeast and fermented in stainless steel tanks. The wine aged in French and American oak barrels for twenty months. 'Freakishly good' is how we have come to describe this single vineyard Cabernet Franc from our highest elevation vineyard (approx.2000') aptly named the 'Upper Bowl'. Cabernet Franc is simply not supposed to be this delicious. Enjoy now or decades from now."

Rich and voluptuous, it totally saturates the palate from start to finish. Dark fruit, violets, spices and licorice all flesh out in this large-scaled, dramatic Cabernet Sauvignon. Everything simply works. The 2009 is a great wine. Even better, it is extremely fairly priced considering the quality of what is in the bottle. Readers will have a hard time keeping their hands off this jewel of a wine. I imagine another few years of bottle age will only help the 2009 develop even more complexity. In this vintage the Cabernet Sauvignon is 73% from Spring Mountain and 27% from Pope Valley. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. (Dec 2012)"

Layers of fruit build to an effortless, huge finish long on texture and pure class. This voluptuous, highly expressive Cabernet Sauvignon is likely to drink well earlier than the 2010, but it also has the pedigree to age gracefully for years. The blend is 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2029. (Dec 2012)"
Producer notes: "2009 marks the 33rd vintage for the Robert Keenan Winery and the 9th consecutive vintage of 'Reserve' Cabernet Sauvignon. The five new cabernet clones that were replanted as bench
grafts in the spring of '98 are now showing their individual characteristics and the vineyard now in its twelfth year has hit full maturity. A combination of 78% Clone 7 Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Clone 15 Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc were chosen for this 100% Estate Spring Mountain cuvee of 650 cases. The wine should hold for some years, but is really at its best now. (12/31/07)"

Complex nuances of cocoa and coffee bean emerge as the wine opens up. This is a 'big' Merlot that will age for many years to come. Alcohol 14.3%."

92 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "[$64 list] Sweet, dark cherries, tobacco, flowers and leather all come to life in the 2009 Merlot Reserve Mailbox Vineyard. The 2009 is a terrific wine with plenty of mid-palate pliancy and depth, although it can’t match the energy or vibrancy of the 2010, unfair as that comparison may be. The 2009 Reserve should enjoy a fairly wide and long drinking window. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2029. (Dec 2012)"
90 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "Good deep red. Brooding, medicinal aromas of dark cherry and licorice. A step up in density and concentration from the basic 2008 merlot bottling, youthfully medicinal today but with a distinctly chewy quality to its currant and chocolate flavors. With more stuffing to support its spine, this has the structure to reward some time in bottle. (May 2012)"
Producer notes: "Hints of violets and a signature spiciness show in the nose, a chocolaty creaminess combines with the rich dark full fruit on the palate, and the finish is beautifully layered, deep, elegant and very, very long. Drink now or decades from now."

Producer notes: "This year the blend is 50% Mailbox Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon clone 15 and 10% Cabernet Franc. The resulting wine is a seamless blend of the three varietals with an emphasis on high-toned sweet delicious rich fruit with an almost hidden depth and structure to allow for indefinite aging. Enjoy now or decades from now. 500 cases produced. Alcohol 14.8%."
