Producer notes: "[$34 list] The 200 Cestos is a single-vineyard selection from A Coroa. The name comes from the 200 baskets, or cestos, that are harvested from this vineyard every year. Tasting Notes - The wine has a lemon tint with aromas of fresh grass, yellow plum and honeysuckle. In the mouth it is powerful and rich with bitter fennel and lemon verbena infusion characteristics. Temperature controlled fermentation in stainless steel with 6 months aging on the lees."

Previous vintage named 'Wine of the Week' by the Los Angeles Times: "Looking for something different in terms of red wine? Try this lovely 100% Mencia aged in French oak from the tiny, highly regarded Algueira winery in Galicia. It tastes of blueberries and blackberries, cool forest and earth. Rich and intense, the Adega Algueira 'Algueira' is reminiscent of a northern Rhône and has the acidity to hold its own against big, bold flavors. (3/31/12)"

89 points Josh Raynolds (International Wine Cellar): "($9 list; fermented in stainless steel and aged in French oak for four months): Inky ruby. Dark berry liqueur and mocha on the nose, with complicating notes of licorice and sassafras. Sappy blueberry and blackberry flavors show very good depth and pick up a spicy quality with air. Finishes with good breadth, supple tannins and lingering smokiness. (Sep 2012)"
Producer notes: "100% Garnacha. Ripe cherry with and intense nose of ripe red fruits (raspberry, currant), balsamic sensations and mineral aromas. This is a fruity wine, very fresh and easy to drink, that gives the pleasant sensation of saviring a fruity candy."

91 points Josh Raynolds (International Wine Cellar): "(barrel fermented in large French oak and then aged in the casks for a further seven months): Pale gold. High-pitched aromas of candied orange, honeysuckle, minerals and candied ginger, along with an exotic note of curry powder. Bright, focused and concentrated, showing impressive clarity to its chalk-accented orange zest, vanilla and quince flavors. A note of toasty lees builds with air and adds depth to the long, incisive, mineral-dominated finish. (Sep 2012)"
91 points and 'Editors' Choice,' Wine Enthusiast: "This barrel-aged Godello is about as elegant and elevated as they come. The nose of dusty apple with light spice and vanilla notes defines elegance, while flavors of apple, lemon, woodspice and vanilla interact seamlessly. Everything is composed and connected; the wine is well balanced, lightly oaked and classy. 400 cases produced. (May 2013)"
90 points Robert Parker: "For starters, I tasted two vintages of the Avanthia Godello, which is 100% Godello from a vineyard planted in 1975 at a whopping 450-meter altitude. The wine is barrel-fermented and aged in 600-liter French demi-muids prior to being bottled. (I actually purchased three cases of the 2010, and I’m down to my last five or six bottles after regularly drinking this wine over the last few months.) Just hitting the market, the 2011 is a more restrained, mineral-dominated wine with hints of crushed rock, white citrus, apple blossoms and caramelized lemons and limes. It is more medium-bodied in 2011 and not quite as full as the 2010, but because of that, many people might like it even more, thanks to the beautifully fruited and natural feel to this wine. (Oct 2012)"

Blomberg replanted this ancient vineyard site in 2000, the vines now certified organic by Galicia’s Craega. The 2011 ripened to crisp litchi and pear flavors, tense with jasmine scents and hints of peppermint. It’s fruity and refreshing, a wine to chill for mariscos. (Oct 2012)"

90 points Josh Raynolds (International Wine Cellar): "Pale gold. Powerful scents of pineapple, mango and white flowers, with a chalky overtone. Supple and round in the mouth, offering juicy tropical fruit flavors and a bracing note of lemon zest. The floral note comes back on the long, broad finish. (Sep 2012)"
89 points Robert Parker: "...reveals loads of tropical fruit, white peach, honeysuckle and apricot notes along with medium body and a fresh, lively style. The crisp acid and abundant fruit make this a hedonistic, crowd-pleasing, dry white to drink over the next 1-2 years. (Jun 2012)"
Burgans is made at the famous Bodega Martín Códax by Luciano Almoedo, perhaps the biggest advocate of the Albariño varietal in Spain. Luciano was extremely influential in obtaining worldwide recognition for not only the varietal, but also Rías Baixas. Today, the Bodega has grown considerably and is known as one of the most progressive in the zone. The use of wood is definitively eschewed at the Bodega in order to preserve the natural lift and minerality of the grapes. As such, the wines are fermented and aged in stainless steel with light lees stirring. The wine is blended by Eric Solomon, working in concert with the property, and is bottled in the spring after harvest.

Juicy, vibrant cherry and floral pastille flavors show very good depth, with juicy acidity adding clarity and lift. Aeration brings up deeper blackberry and anise notes that carry through a spicy persistent finish. This has to be one of the best red wine values out there. (Sep 2012)"
89 points Peñín Guide: "(100% monastrell). Colour: cherry, purple rim. Nose: fresh fruit, red berry notes, floral, grassy. Palate: flavourful, fruity, good acidity, round tannins. (2013)"
88 points Robert Parker: "[$9 list] The 2011 Monastrell Vinas Viejas (100% Monastrell -- or Mourvedre -- aged in stainless steel) comes from a vineyard planted at nearly 2,400-foot elevation with non-irrigated old bush/head pruned vines. More herbal and peppery than the less expensive Molino Loco, it is a well-made, deep, spicy, savory, earthy effort with more complexity and personality than its sibling. Consume this unreal value over the next 2-3 years. It reminds me of a well-made French Cotes du Rhone. (Jun 2012)"

One of the finest Albariños on the market, Quinta de Couselo's Turonia is yellow in color with greenish sparkles, clean and luminous. Good aromatic intensity, with a seamless integration of green fruit (pear, apple), flowers (acacia, eucalyptus) and lactic fermentation notes. Very balanced, long and round, dominating aromas of green apple and kiwi are followed by a firm finish with a follow-through carrying balsamic and eucalyptus overtones.

Tasting Notes: It has a depth and a wealth of nuances not often found in white wines. It is harmonious in the mouth, very expressive and with a lot of vitality."
Not yet reviewed; 2010 vintage rated 93 points by International Wine Cellar: "(made from vines that are reportedly over 200 years old): Light, bright yellow. Intense, mineral-accented aromas of orange, green apple and melon, with chalk and floral accents and a touch of anise. A former engineer, Emilio Rojo established this estate in 1987. His tiny 2-hectare parcel on granite soils lies on terraced hillside vineyards in Ribeiro. Emilio replanted this vineyard site to the indigenous varieties that once grew on this same plot. Its north facing exposure is key in creating structure in the wines since Ribeiro is a very hot denomination. All organicallly farmed by Emilio without the use of pesticides or non organic fertilizer. One of the most unique white wines of Spain, only 50 cases are imported into the U.S.

WHWC staff notes: "This freakishly delicious little gem is 100% Grenache Blanc from the Terra Alta region of Spain. Terra Alta lies about 130 kilometers southwest of Barcelona, next to Priorat. In fact, this is basically a poor man's Priorat blanca. This wine comes with everything you desire from a bottle of wine...it's inexpensive (heck, it's cheap!), it's intoxicatingly delicious and the alcohol comes in at under 13%. Buy it now!! I tell you for your own good." -Kaj Stromer, 8/14/12
87 points Peñín Guide: "(100% garnacha blanca). Colour: bright straw. Nose: fresh fruit, white flowers, citrus fruit. Palate: flavourful, fruity, good acidity, balsamic. (2013)"
Producer notes: "While Terra Alta, tucked away in the southeastern corner of Catalonia bordering Aragón and Valencia, is not yet a well-known region, it is one of the largest areas in Catalunya under vine. This Garnatxa Blanca is very aromatic with notes of melon and white fruits on the nose. On the palate, it is balanced with a medium body and a nice crisp freshness. Pairs well with simple tapas and grilled squid. Alcohol 12.95%."

87 points Neal Martin (Wine Advocate): "[$15 list] Mainly Viura blended with Malvasia and Garnacha Blanca, the 2011 Barrel-fermented Blanco remains on its lees for three months in Allier French oak. It has a subtle, vanilla and almond-scented bouquet with fine definition. The palate is well-balanced with coconut and almond on the entry. I discerned a slight honeyed tincture and a pleasing creamy, patisserie finish. Drink now-2016. (8/31/12)"
Producer notes: "90% Viura and 10% Malvasia. The weather conditions were positive for the aromatic expression of the wine, with hints of pears and ripe apples adorned with shrub land herbs and spices as well as pastries. It is only at the second level that the typical citrus and green apple character which has typified this wine in other years begins to appear. It is a pleasant wine to drink, thanks to its limited sharpness, giving a sensation of silky fullness. It coats the sides of the mouth and finishes with a canned peach and ripe pineapple aftertaste. In the retronasal phase the peach and ripe pineapple continue to be to the fore with reminders of lavender and thyme."
