89 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "Very saturated dark red. Youthful port aromas of cassis, licorice, chocolate, herbs and damp earth. Very intense, sweet flavors of chocolate and dark berries. Robust yet smooth and not obviously alcoholic. Superb fruit is given clarity by firm acids. Real wine-class port, with terrific structure, freshness and delineation of flavor."

Robert Parker: "[$80 list] The 2000 Passadouro possesses plenty of fruit, but it is more muted, with less spice and personality than the Broadbent. It exhibits a similar dense ruby/purple color, medium to full body, a soft, evolved character, but less aromatic and flavor dimensions. Drink it over the next 15 years."

88 points Wine Spectator: "[$22 list] Shows beautiful aromas of sliced plum and peach, with raspberry jam. Medium-bodied and lightly sweet, with fine tannins and a fruity finish. Refined and pretty. This is a new Port from Noval that is supposed to attractive new consumers and please old ones. Might work. Drink now. (5/31/10)"
Producer notes: "This is a classic 'vintage character' port, aged for between four and five years in wood before bottling. It is blended from a number of vintages to give consistent characteristics of rich fruit, fine bouquet and a delicate palate."

89 points Wine Enthusiast: "[$21 list] Structured wine, very perfumed, the aromas reflecting the delicious mix of black cherry, damson and spice flavors. The wine then shows strong tannins and a firm texture. (12/31/11)"
Producer notes: "This Port is made from the best Reserve wines carefully chosen for their concentrated rich fruit style. After the wines are produced in the vineyards in the Douro, they are brought to the lodge in Oporto where they are left to mellow in oak casks. During ageing the intense fresh fruitiness and vigour of this fine Port matures into the smooth yet assertive Lodge Reserve. Tasting notes: Dark and lively ruby colour. On the nose intense red fruit aromas dominate, with some floral hints. On the palate fresh and robust fruit flavours, with an excellent long finish. Food pairing: Smith Woodlhouse Lodge Reserve is delicious served at the end of a meal, for example with rich, nutty or chocolate desserts, as well as strong cheeses."
