94 points Wine Spectator: "I have always been a fan of this very fine and well-made Port. Truly balanced in character, with focused flowers, spice and cherry. Full-bodied, with a sweet palate and a fine texture.--Dow vertical. Drink now. (12/31/99)"

5 stars, Michael Broadbent's Pocket Vintage Wine Companion: "A very good '77. Maturing well; high-toned, 'herbal' bouquet; fairly sweet, a good ripe mouthful. Drink: Now-2020. Last tasted June 2006."
93 points Robert Parker (Parker's Wine Buyer's Guide [2nd ed.]): "This is an extraordinary house that seems to have been particularly successful with its vintage port since 1977.The 1977, still a baby, is fabulously scented, very rich and concentrated, and has a potential longevity of at least another 30-50 years. (Jan 1989)"
92 points Wine Spectator: "Medium brick-red. Aromas of coffee, prune and milk chocolate. Full-bodied and medium sweet, with a licorice, berry, custard and cream character. Firm and racy. Long and delicious. Firm and beautiful. Just ready now. '77/'85/'97 blind Port retrospective. Best from 2008 through 2016. (2008)"

93 points Wine Spectator: "Very dark and youthful ruby-purple. Very intense aromas of blackberry and black licorice. Full-bodied and lightly sweet, with chewy tannins and a rich licorice, blackberry undertone. Still tight. Drinkable now, but it needs a few more years. '77/'85/'97 blind Port retrospective. Best after 2010. (2008)"
4-5 stars Michael Broadbent's Pocket Vintage Wine Companion: "Very deep, even a touch of youthful purple; rich, figgy, classic liquorice nose; sweet, soft, very fruity. Lovely wine. Last tasted May 2004. Now-2015. (2007)"
5 stars, Decanter Award Decanter: "One of the best wines (perhaps the very best wine) from a very patchy vintage: retaining good colour, and boasting very ripe fruit -- open, rich, yet solid, with dark chocolate concentration (and I mean the 70% cocoa solids variety!) Long and voluptuous, it is ready now but will keep for another 20 years. Drink now-2030. (Dec 2010)"

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "An old, mature wine, but one that has kept its ripeness and richness. The concentration is so intense that one glass is almost enough (except it tastes so good). There are walnuts, bitter chocolate and a delicious clean aftertaste. (Aug 2006)"

94 points Wine Spectator: "This is an extremely full-bodied, powerful wine, but it still retains a classy balance. Deep ruby, with chocolate and berry aromas, full-bodied, with anise and dried cherry flavors, full, hard tannins and a long finish. Good now but a few more yearsof bottle age would improve it. (1989)"
94 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "I drank quite a bit of the 1970 Graham’s over the course of the 1990s, but had not crossed paths with a bottle in several years until this most recent example. The wine is superb in 1970, as it displays a bouquet of voluptuous complexity, offering up scents of black cherry, plum, cedar, fresh mint, chocolate, a bit of tobacco leaf, and lovely, estery floral topnotes. On the palate the wine is focused and opulent, with fine framing acidity adding a note of precision to the attack, and with excellent freshness and balance on the softly tannic, long and creamy finish. This is a classic example of Graham’s in its more extroverted and fruit-driven style, and it should continue to drink well for the next forty or more years. 2003-2050. (Jan/Feb 2007)"
93 points Robert Parker: "Graham is another great port house, producing one of the deepest-colored and sweetest styles of vintage port. Along with Taylor and Fonseca, Graham has probably been the most consistent producer of great port in the post- World War II era. Their tawnys are quite good rather than exceptional, but their vintage ports are truly sublime and sumptuous. The 1970 is a monumental vintage port and one of the greats of the vintage. It begs to be drunk now, although it will last for at least another two decades. (Jan 1989)"
19/20 points Richard Mayson (The World of Fine Wine): "More pinkish in hue than the Taylor, if very slightly paler; rich, classic extra-dark chocolate character (80% cocoa solids!) on both nose and palate, very sweet and opulent in the Graham style, full and smooth, with broad, ripe tannins building on to a towering finish. Continuing full and broad. An underappreciated classic, as good as anything from 1963 or 1966. This will last a lifetime! (Issue #33; 2011)"
5 stars, Michael Broadbent's Pocket Vintage Wine Companion: "The Symington's first vintage after purchase from the Graham family. A superb wine: fragrant, flowery bouquet and flavour. Sweet of course. Drink: Now-beyond 2015. Last tasted Sept 2006."

5 stars, Michael Broadbent's Pocket Vintage Wine Companion: "Twenty, always admiring, notes. Fairly deep with mature, red-brown rim; very rich, well developed bouquet opening up beautifully; sweet, marvellous length, spicy finish. Lovely wine. Last tasted Oct 2006. Now-2025."
93 points Robert Parker: "Graham is another great port house, producing one of the deepest-colored and sweetest styles of vintage port. Along with Taylor and Fonseca, Graham has probably been the most consistent producer of great port in the post- World War II era. Their tawnys are quite good rather than exceptional, but their vintage ports are truly sublime and sumptuous."
18/20 points Richard Mayson (The World of Fine Wine): "Mid-deep, still youthful in color, with a pinkish rim; opulent, spicy, floral aromas, still quite tight knit; rich but firm, solid and quite weighty, rich dark-chocolate finish--I wrote '70% cocoa solids' for this. Surely one of the best wines from a variable vintage. (Issue #33; 2011)"

93 points Wine Spectator: "A superb achievement from a very underrated year. Deep dark ruby-purple, with rich floral and violet aromas, full-bodied, with masses of strawberry flavors, full tannins and a long finish. (1989)"
92 points Robert Parker (Buying Guide, 2nd ed.): "Graham is another great port house, producing one of the deepest-colored and sweetest styles of vintage port. Along with Taylor and Fonseca, Graham has probably been the most consistent producer of great port in the post- World War II era. Their tawnys are quite good rather than exceptional, but their vintage ports are truly sublime and sumptuous. The 1983, like most vintage ports, seems more forward than normal but has a great depth of very ripe, viscous, unctuous, plummy, tarry fruit and significant tannin in its long finish. It is black-purple in color. I doubt that it will be either as profound or as long-lived as the great 1977, but is is certainly one of the top two or three ports of this vintage, and better than the excellent 1980. (Jan 1989)"
4 stars, Michael Broadbent's Pocket Vintage Wine Companion: "Medium, soft, open; lean, spirity; sweet as usual, lovely flavour, crisp acidity, delicious wine. Drink: Now-2015. (Sept 2006)"

97 points Wine Enthusiast: "The legendary Vargellas Vinha Velha comes from the oldest vines of Quinta de Vergellas. This 2009 vintage is concentrated and impressive, its beautiful ripe fruits and dark chocolate backed by an immense structure. The gentler side of the wine comes through in its perfumed character. A wine that deserves many years of aging. Cellar Selection. abv: 20.5%. (Apr 2012)"
94 points Neal Martin (Wine Advocate): "The Taylor Vargellas Vinha Velha 2009 has a more introverted than Taylor’s Vintage, an earthy bouquet with touches of orange essence developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, good backbone, quite reserved and composed at the moment. This is not a flamboyant Vinha Velha, but there is a very attractive, slightly biscuity quality towards the finish. Superb. (May 2011)"
93 points and 'Top 100 Wines of 2012,' Wine & Spirits: "From the oldest vines at Taylor’s Quinta da Vargellas in the Douro Superior, this smells like schist and builds past its sweetness to a schist-driven finish as well. It starts off as a black fruit jam, gaining detail with air as the seemingly soft tannins yield their mineral power and the big-fruited richness takes shape. Formidable wine, this should thrive in the cellar for 20 to 30 years. (Dec 2011)"
5 stars, 19/20 points, Decanter: "The essence of Quinta de Vargellas: still aromatic with a touch of wild hedgerow character; dense, tight-knit, ripe berry fruit and powerful, rapier-like tannins. A keeper. Drink: 2030-2055. Alc: 20%. (Jun 2012)"

93 points Wine Spectator: "Deep garnet. Very pretty plum and berry aromas, with hints of honey and toffee. Turns to custard. Full-bodied, sweet and fresh. Firm tannins, with elegance and balance. Will age for a long time, but ready. Generous, but subtle. '77/'85/'97 blind Port retrospective. Drink now. (2008)"
92 points Robert Parker (Buying Guide, 2nd Ediiton): "This house makes rather restrained yet rich, flavorful vintage port and a very good tawny called Nimrod. Their vintage ports seem slow to develop, and while they never quite have the voluptuous richness of a Dow, Graham, or Fonseca, they have a unique mineral-scented character that gives them their own complexity and style. The 1977 is quite powerful, very deep and intense, particularly for Warre. (Jan 1989)"
