Santa Cristina was originally introduced in 1946 asa Chianti Classico by Piero Antinori’s father, Niccolò. However, with the passage of the 1984 DOCG laws - spearheaded by Piero Antinori- requiring lower vineyard yields, Chianti Classico grapes became so complex and rich that they required more aging than this fruity fresh wine should have to maintain its style and character. Therefore, with the 1987 vintage Santa Cristina moved away from the Chianti Classico designation, and with the 1994 vintage Antinori began including 10% Merlot to the blend to add soft, open fruit nuances to the wine.

Wine Spectator: "[$10 list] A light, fruity style, offering cherry and strawberry flavors, with a hint of spice. Just a bit hot on the finish... Drink now through 2014. (10/15/11)"
Producer notes: "Sangiovese 85%, Cabernet Sauvignon 15%. A rich, luminous ruby of appealing depth announces an equally complex nose, Remole 2010 reveals multi-faceted aromas of red and dark fruit and lifted by spicier impressions of black pepper and liquorice. The entry is velvety and warm, and the components on the palate are well balanced, with a tasty vein of acidity. Aromatic fruit returns to grace a lengthy finish."

It is a wine which can be enjoyed throughout the courses of a meal, whose bouquet improves with time. It shows a ruby red color, a fine bouquet with remarkable aromas reminiscent of sweet violet and wild berries. Lightly tannic. Pairings: with white and red meats, and particularly with traditional dishes of the local cuisine of Lucca."

Producer notes: "Among the most prestigious wines of Tuscany, this wine shows the great potential of the Sangiovese variety. This wine is comprised of primarily Sangiovese along with the indigenous Teroldego. Intense ruby red in color, the complex bouquet starts with red berry fruits then develops spicy aromas including vanilla, tobacco and light balsamic notes. On the palate, the wine reveals great structure, supported with good acidity and mature, well-balanced tannins. It finishes generously and with persistence, with a hint of licorice. Our Supertuscan I Pampini is produced only in the best years and it matures in French oak barrels, in order to enhance the bouquet and to enrich its complexity. Pairings: braised and roasted meats, game, strong and tasty matured cheese."

Dry, full, rich and powerful. The vineyards are planted on dry and stony soil, composed by clay at an altitude of 400 meters with an excellent exposition. The Prugnolo Gentile (a particular clone of the Sangiovese grape) represents the majority of the plants.

Gambero Rosso: "Founded in 1992, Nottola is owned by Giuliano Giomarelli, who has just finished reorganizing the whole estate. This restructuring is already bearing fruit and has swept away any doubts that may have lingered in the past to place it squarely among the best artisan wine producers. The wines are well made and have an approach that favours balance and drinkability... The Nobile '07 has a generous, clean nose and a tasty, eminently drinkable palate. (2011)"
Producer notes: "Intense ruby red. Aromas of ripe fruit and spices with delicate scent of sweet-smelling violet. Tasty and velvety on the palate."

The Fines Wines of Tuscany: "Querciabella's remarkable white wine, a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc, is one of Tuscany's few top-quality whites. Capable of improving in bottle for up to five or six years in a good vintage, it has lost its early overoakiness and is now a rival to Burgundy in style, though curiously it is sold in a Bordeaux bottle. (2009)"

Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "Talenti’s 2009 Rosso di Montalcino is an attractive, feminine wine graced with freshly cut flowers, strawberry jam and spices, all of which come together in a fresh, mid-weight style. This round, harmonious Rosso is quite pretty. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2016. (May 2011)"
Producer notes: "Intense ruby-red. Firm scent of mature red fruit, completed by a nice spicy component. The flavor is warm, soft and full; structured with well developed, but velvety and not aggressive tannins. Lasting after-taste. Goes well with cold meats and not much aged cheeses, as well as first courses with meat and game sauces."

This baby Supertuscan "Citto' or 'young boy,' is a blend of declassified juice from Chianti Classico with Cabernet Sauvignon from Volpaia's Maremma property. 65% Sangiovese and 35% Cabernet. The Sangiovese provides the telltale Tuscan red and black cherry flavor profile, while the Cabernet provides the muscle. Vivid ruby in color. Aromas of ripe red fruit, leather and grilled meat on the nose lead to sour cherry on the palate with a firm backbone of acidity and grippy, young tannins. Perfect with roasted or grilled meats and pasta with red sauce. Drink 2012-2016.
