Producer notes: "The Da Vinci Chianti is deep crimson in color with aromas of cherries and red fruit balanced by soft, round tannins."
Wine Spectator: "A rich red, backed by good acidity, leaving space for its cocoa dust, blackberry and spice notes. Just a bit burly on the finish. Drink now through 2012. (2/28/11)"

Two Glasses, Gambero Rosso (2012).
2007 vintage rated '#1 Wine of the Year - The Enthusiasxt 100' and 93 points by Wine Enthusiast: "From Frescobaldi’s gorgeous Nipozzano estate, this Riserva Sangiovese (with small percentages of Malvasia Nera, Cabernet and Merlot for extra density and intensity) opens with impressive generosity and personality. 100% Sangiovese. 13.5% abv. With a bright ruby-garnet cast, this Chianti displays a spicy red currant and tobacco nose, plenty of zip and drive, abundant fruit, and a tonic acidity on the finish. A great pairing with pizza or pasta with red sauce.

16.5/20 points Julia Harding, JancisRobinson.com: "Fragrant cherry fruit as only Sangiovese can do. Even very slightly floral. Then a firm, fresh dry depth. Mouthfilling and fresh and a long dark cherry tang on the finish. Good Value."
Well made Chianti from the Montalbano district near Florence. A blend of Sangiovese with Canaiolo and Malvasia Nera, aged in large botte. Deep in color, richly textured with warm and ripe cherry fruit and a nice spicy finish. Great value.

Producer notes: "Retromarcia is a Chianti Classico made from Sangiovese (95%), Merlot (3%) and Canaiolo Nero (2%) grapes. A large proportion of the grapes come from vineyards consisting of shale (Galestro), limestone (Alberese) and sandstone (Arenaria-Calcare-Pietraforte), and are, on average, ten years in age. The vinification and maturation is reminiscent of a more traditional style Chianti Classico; the result is a fresh and fruity, medium-bodied, well-balanced wine, with a nice structure, juicy acidity and a long finish. The Italian word Retromarcia has come to mean more to us than its literal translation 'to back up' or 'to reverse'; ever since we arrived in Panzano, it has been our aim to produce intensely typical and expressive wines from Tuscany’s historic zone -- Chianti Classico. With the name Retromarcia, we are emphasizing a return to the natural elegance and charm of Sangiovese."

Producer notes: "Intense ruby red. The nose immediately shows an outstanding elegance, characterized by particularly fragrant flowery and fruity notes. Violet, cherries, wild berries and plums meet with delicately spicy hints of tobacco and white pepper grains, followed by elegant scents of red roses and flint. Notes of fragrant fresh fruit are accompanied by steady yet gentle tannins, that exalt enjoyable spicy hints. The whole tasting sensation is enriched by a persistent finish, that is incredibly fresh and pleasantly mineral and presents an aftertaste with fascinating notes of rosemary. Alcohol 13.5%."
Not yet reviewed; 2007 vintage rated 92 points by James Suckling: "A wine with lots of dried fruits and raisins that turn to cedar and spices. Full and velvety. Juicy finish."

Ian D'Agata (International Wine Cellar): "[$30 list] Light golden-amber. Sweet caramel, dried apricot and floral aromas. Then easygoing and fresh on the palate, with moderately concentrated but sweet flavors of vanilla, toffee and orange peel. Finishes smooth, with a lingering note of sweet vanilla. A rather uncomplicated and politely styled Vin Santo. (Jul/Aug 2010)"
