Two Glasses, Gambero Rosso (2012).
2008 vintage rated 87 points by Wine Enthusiast: "From a beautiful vineyard site in southern Sicily, this easy Nero d’Avola would pair well with lasagna or grilled pork sausages. Cherry, almond and wild berry aromas are followed by a bright, fresh mouthfeel."

Grillo is a white grape varietal grown throughout Sicily, and is thoughtto have been used in one of Julius Caesar's favorite wines. Et tu, Brutus? This wine expresses the classic qualities of Italian Grillo -- crisp, bright and pale lemon in color; aromas of citrus zest, with a hint of wild flowers; on the palate it's generous, well-balanced - with a fresh acidity and a touch of minerality. 13.0% alcohol. Thanks to its easy drinking character and food flexibility, this one is sure to be a crowd-pleaser...and at a bargain price, driven in large part by the cost savings from its Tetra Pack packaging.

Importer notes: "Paolo Calì is a pharmacist whose ancestors made wine; in the 1990s Paolo replanted his family's property to the two traditional local varieties, making his first wine in 2003... his winemaking style is unintrusive but clean. Frappato is a very unusual grape, giving wine that is light in color but strikingly aromatic and flavorful... Indigenous to south-eastern Sicily, it has distinct aromas of strawberries, dried flowers, and dried orange peel. This wine was fermented and aged in stanless steel; no oak used. It is a lighter red wine; delicious with pizza, chicken, and many seafood dishes."

Tami is the sister label of up-and-coming natural winemaker Arianna Occhipinti from Vittoria in southeastern Sicily. In a few short years, Arianna has managed to outperform the competition, many of whom have been at this for considerably longer. The 2011 Tami Nero d’Avola is aromatic, with delicate notes of violets, fried sage and wild strawberries. The palate is extraordinarily elegant with lovely notes of boysenberry, espresso, anise and black licorice. An outstanding effort!

100% old vine Nerello Mascalese, a native Sicilian grape, grown in the Guardiola vineyard at 2100-2900 feet above sea level on the north side of Mount Etna. Etna is Sicily's coolest DOC zone, so this wine emphasizes ripe, high-altitude fruit and superb freshness. Deep red in color. Extraordinary aromatic intensity. Fresh, ripe and rich plum, rose and strawberry flavors, culminating in a minerally, refreshing finish. 18 months in 25% new French oak barriques.
