87 points Fine Wine Review: "...the wine is exactly as it is supposed to be. The nose features spiced red cherry aromas. The mouth is medium-weight with red cherries and violets, and some steeliness to the texture. This is a good everyday wine, to serve slightly cool. 12% stated alcohol. (Issue #135/136; 2012)"
Bouquet: delicate but well defined, vinous, berries. Taste: dry, velvety, slightly almond, full, well balanced. More earth than fruit, good juice for the Old World wine lovers.

Two Glasses, Gambero Rosso (2013).
Importer notes: "The goal of this wine, from vineyard to bottle, is to maximize freshness and produce an imminently drinkable wine. Maceration lasts for 6-8 days (compared to 3 weeks for the Barolo) and aging is for only 6 months in large barrels. This Nebbiolo d'Alba typically exhibits fruity aromas (peach and wild berries) and medium body, being ready to drink relatively young. It is more suited for casual summer meals. It is best enjoyed young, but will improve with a brief cellaring."

Nascetta is an ancient Piemontese white varietal, with only a few plantings existing today. Sergio Germano is one of a handful of winemakers working with this varietal. It is a svelt, mineral-driven white vinified solely in stainless steel tanks. Beautiful herbaceous aromas of lime peel, thyme, sage and wet rocks. Its medium-bodied frame and fresh acidity highlight the soft lime fruit flavors with touches of mineral and herbs. A very special wine from one of the rising stars of Barolo.

Not yet reviewed; 2008 vintage rated Three Glasses by Gambero Rosso: "...year after year [this estate] scales new peaks of quality and reliability... This year the estate's wines were exceptional. Langhe Bianco Hérzu '08, an elegant monovarietal Riesling, won our top accolade, showing delicate, terse, mineral, long and very fresh."
Importer notes: "The first bottling of Sergio Germano's Riesling 'Herzu' just arrived. It is made of Riesling from Sergio's new vineyards in the village of Ciglié, about thirty minutes south of his estate in Serralunga. The property is a steep chalky south-facing hillside, perfect for grape-growing, and if you're a Riesling fan you shouldn't miss it. Bone dry, hints of lime-peel, wet stones, floral, very minerally."

91 points Wine Spectator: "[$40 list] Delicate and silky, this is soft to the touch yet durable, offering intense and persistent aromas and flavors of strawberry, cherry, rose, tobacco and white pepper, lingering on the long, fresh aftertaste. Drink now through 2020. 600 cases imported. (5/31/13)"

Producer notes: "This prestiisgious 'Gavi dei Gavi - La Scolca' is obtained with the utmost respect for nature, from pruning to harvesting. Strict and rigorous selection of grapes is conducted with the utmost care, cluster by cluster, in vineyards over sixty years of age. Vinification is strictly traditional. Yields are kept below 50 quintals/hectare, or a low 5,000 kilos per hectare, to encourage concentration, depth and complexity in the wines. Tasting notes: Pale straw color, with delicate greenish highlights. Intense fruit and floral fragrance. On the palate it is strongly typical of Gavi: fruity and flinty with notes of almonds, hazelnuts and walnuts lingering in the finish. Food match: white meats, sushi, Soft cheeses, shrimp, shellfish, salmon, oysters, fowl, fish, crab, chicken."
Gavi is the name of a town in the Apennines Mountains in the region of Piedmont, near Liguria, which gave its name to a dry, white wine when La Scolca began production of Gavi 90 years ago. The Gavi zone obtained DOC status in 1974 and the higher-level DOCG in 1998. The Gavi DOCG is the finest terroir for the Cortese grape, and when grown here, the grapes produce wines with the fullest expression of distinct personality in aroma and flavor.

Pale yellow with a green glint; hard-to-define aroma of grass, herbs, tangerine, and wet stones; medium-weight in the mouth with good lively acidity and a long, very clean finish. Good general-purpose
aperitif or wine for antipasti, some salame, some olives.

89 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "(bottled in July, along with the 2009 Barbera and the 2008 Barolo): Medium bright red. Very primary aromas of black cherry, minerals, licorice, flowers and leather. Juicy and penetrating, with medicinal black cherry flavor intensified by strong acidity. 'Lighter than the 2009 dolcetto, and good for everyday drinking,' noted Maria-Teresa Mascarelo. This very pure wine grew on me. (Oct/Nov 2011)"

88 points James Suckling: "Delicate light for the vintage but shows attractive spice and smoked meat and dried berry character. Medium body, chewy finish. Better in 2013. (7/19/12)"
