Two Glasses, Gambero Rosso: "Bovio began making wine in 1976 and the results have been increasingly convincing, thanks in no small part to the passionate commitment of cellar manager Walter Porasso... These Barolos have a classic style that foregrounds fruit over oak which is barely perceptible in the first few years in bottle. (2012)"

92 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "(90% nebbiolo and 10% barbera; spent 18 months in new barriques): Good dark red. Aromas of redcurrant, black raspberry, tobacco, mocha and violet. Fat and sweet on entry, then minerally and backward in the middle, with surprising acidity giving this elegant wine a serious mien. Some sexy oak tones sweeten the wine's powerful tannins. Densely packed and built to age. Clerico stopped putting cabernet sauvignon in his Arte blend with vintage 2006, which incidentally showed very well in September, offering a beguiling combination of mellowness, elegance and grip. (Oct/Nov 2011)"

92 points Wine Spectator: "Ripe and pure, featuring cherry, strawberry and spice aromas and flavors matched to an elegant frame. The finish feature dense tannins and a strong mineral component. Best from 2013 through 2028. 448 cases imported. (2011)"
90+ points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "[$125 list] The 2006 Barolo is made from the estate’s youngest vines, which means an average age of 20-35 years at this address, mostly from the village of Monforte with a touch of Barolo. Sweet, fragrant aromatics lead to an elegant, supple Barolo with a plush core of fruit supported by dusty yet elegant tannins. Spices, flowers and small red fruits come to life on the long, attractive finish. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2024. (Feb 2010)"
90 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "Medium red. Wild but reticent nose is still shocked by the July bottling, with its fruit suppressed. More classic in style but less differentiated in the early going than the 2005, with cedar and game notes, plenty of fat and sweetness and impressive richness. Best today on the juicy, persistent finish, which displays a strong tannic spine. Very young. (Nov/Dec 2009)"

94 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "[$55 list] Gorgeous, knock-out aromas emerge from the 2007 Barbaresco Rabaja. Ripe, candied cherries, flowers and minerals emerge seamlessly in the glass, revealing gorgeous inner perfume. In 2007 the Rabaja possesses a touch more textural richness and body than is typically the case, but without abandoning what remains a classic, mid-weight style. This is a terrific showing from Cortese. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2027. (Dec 2010)"

91 points James Suckling: "How can you not like the roses and berries and hints of soft dried mushrooms on the nose? Full and very silky body with refined tannins and nice cedar box and ripe berry finish. Will be drinking at its best in 2011. (1/27/11)"
91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Made with fruit assembled from five specific vineyard sites across the Barolo wine region, this beautiful blend of Nebbiolo grapes offers a clear window onto the noble Italian variety. Aromas include small berry fruit, spice, white peppercorn and cola. There’s a tight firmness that propels a long finish. Alcohol 14.0%. (Sep 2011)"
90 points Wine Spectator: "[$40 list] This perfumed red evokes flowers and spice, with elegance. The wild cherry, licorice, tobacco and mineral notes lead to a lean, tightly wound finish. Best from 2013 through 2020. (12/31/10)"
Two Glasses, Gambero Rosso: "All the 2006 Barolos are characterized by their oak ageing, which lays spicy notes on the attractive fruity base... Lecinquevigne successfully fulfils its appointed role as an earlier-drinking Barolo... (2011)"

Not yet reviewed; 2008 vintage rated Three Glasses by Gambero Rosso: "...year after year [this estate] scales new peaks of quality and reliability... This year the estate's wines were exceptional. Langhe Bianco Hérzu '08, an elegant monovarietal Riesling, won our top accolade, showing delicate, terse, mineral, long and very fresh."
Importer notes: "The first bottling of Sergio Germano's Riesling 'Herzu' just arrived. It is made of Riesling from Sergio's new vineyards in the village of Ciglié, about thirty minutes south of his estate in Serralunga. The property is a steep chalky south-facing hillside, perfect for grape-growing, and if you're a Riesling fan you shouldn't miss it. Bone dry, hints of lime-peel, wet stones, floral, very minerally."

Sourced from the same vineyard that produces the legendary Giacosa Barolo Falletto, this bottling is widely considered one of Italy's top Barberas. The Falletto di Serralunga vineyard is southwest-facing, and its soil, a blend of clay and sand, enables the Barbera grapes to produce full and complex wine. Giacosa could easily make more money by grafting these vines over to Nebbiolo, but the fact that he doesn't speaks volumes to how "Il Maestro" regards the wine.

88 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "(disgorged in March of 2011, less than five grams per liter of residual sugar): Pale bright yellow. Pretty floral nose with a leesy complexity. Lemony and young but showing a creamy leesy quality to go with suggestions of ripe stone fruits. Sound, harmonious acidity extends the dusty finish of this youthful, cool wine. (Oct/Nov 2011)"
Producer notes: "Straw-yellow color with swift foam of tiny and persistent bubbles. Fruity notes, yeast and biscuits are perceived in the nose. Plentifulness and softness are revealed in its dry flavor."

Pale coral in color. Bouquet is rich, complex, elegant, remarkably light and airy, with notes of wild strawberries and cherry, with hints of pineapple, brioche and rosemary. In the mouth, the attack is very energetic, very dry and incisive. Very well balanced acidity, with a long finish.

Producer notes: "This prestiisgious 'Gavi dei Gavi - La Scolca' is obtained with the utmost respect for nature, from pruning to harvesting. Strict and rigorous selection of grapes is conducted with the utmost care, cluster by cluster, in vineyards over sixty years of age. Vinification is strictly traditional. Yields are kept below 50 quintals/hectare, or a low 5,000 kilos per hectare, to encourage concentration, depth and complexity in the wines. Tasting notes: Pale straw color, with delicate greenish highlights. Intense fruit and floral fragrance. On the palate it is strongly typical of Gavi: fruity and flinty with notes of almonds, hazelnuts and walnuts lingering in the finish. Food match: white meats, sushi, Soft cheeses, shrimp, shellfish, salmon, oysters, fowl, fish, crab, chicken."
Gavi is the name of a town in the Apennines Mountains in the region of Piedmont, near Liguria, which gave its name to a dry, white wine when La Scolca began production of Gavi 90 years ago. The Gavi zone obtained DOC status in 1974 and the higher-level DOCG in 1998. The Gavi DOCG is the finest terroir for the Cortese grape, and when grown here, the grapes produce wines with the fullest expression of distinct personality in aroma and flavor.

A hugely seductive nose of black cherry liqueur, cinnamon and dried fruits, and citrus zest. Beautifully silky on the palate, but with impressive structure, too. Ripe fruit and crisp acidity balnces harmoniously on the impressively long finish. A magnificent Barbera!
Not yet reviewed; Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate) on the 2008 vintage: "The 2008 Barbera d’Alba San Lorenzo shows the effects of a challenging growing season in which the fruit struggled to ripen. In 2008, Mascarello harvested her Barbera after the Nebbiolo, which is quite unusual. The San Lorenzo shows good juiciness and minerality but less body and harmony than the best vintages. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2015."

94 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The 2007 Barolo Margheria is superb. The vintage has smoothed out some of the more angular contours this wine tends to show when young, while not overpowering what remains a structured expression of Nebbiolo. Sweet dark cherries, tar, smoke, flowers, licorice and saline notes wrap around a radiant, energetic finish supported by plenty of grip. This is a fabulous wine from Giampaolo Pira. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2022. (Oct 2011)"
92 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "(aged in large oak barrels): Good dark red. Brooding, high-pitched aromas of blackberry, violet and menthol. Silky-sweet and rich on entry, then impressively intense in the middle, with penetrating dark fruit flavors offering excellent precision. Finishes very long and silky, with substantial ripe tannins and lovely lingering perfume. Seems sweeter and suaver than some past vintages of this wine. (Oct/Nov 2011)"
92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Don’t even think of drinking this wine sooner than ten years from now. Those tight, nervous tannins need time to slowly unwind and the wine presents beautiful aromas of cassis and red cherry that will evolve with aging. At the back of it all are steady tones of spicy tobacco and leather. (Sep 2011)"

93 points James Suckling: "This is very perfumed with flowers and blueberries. Hints of rose petals as well. Full body, with firm tannins and a bright, focused finish. Gorgeous. Really well done from this cooperative! Drink now hold. (7/19/12)"
92 points Wine Spectator: "[$38 list] This bright red exhibits floral, cherry and tar flavors, with a firm edge of tannins closing the wine down on the finish. An elegant Barbaresco that should fall into place in a few years. Best from 2015 through 2024. (11/30/12)"
91+ points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The Produttori’s 2008 Barbaresco is simply fabulous. A sweet bouquet melds into expressive fruit in a Barbaresco that is exceptionally polished and refined. The 2008 boasts striking sweetness and inner perfume to match its understated, elegant personality. Quite frankly, the 2008 is very hard to resist today, as the tannins are quite polished. Unusually sweet, silky and refined, the 2008 will take the better part of a decade to show the full breadth of its pedigree. At $37, it is one of the very finest values in ageworthy wine from anywhere in the world. This is a magnificent showing from the Produttori and a great introduction to the 2008 harvest at this historic house. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2038. (Oct 2012)"
90 points Wine Enthusiast: "This vibrant Barbaresco opens with loads of oak-inspired aromas and sweet spice with background tones of forest fruit, bramble, tar, cedar and licorice. The tannins are drying, firm and fuel the wine’s long finish. (Sep 2011)"

Producer notes: "The classic Bramaterra, produced for more than one century blending 70% Nebbiolo, 20% Croatina and 10% Vespolina, expresses the full-flavoured mineral quality of the porphyritic sand where its grapes grow. Alcohol 13.5%."
Not yet reviewed; 2006 vintage rated 90 points by International Wine Cellar: "(a blend of nebbiolo, croatina and vespolina) Bright red. Spicy aromas of red berries, tobacco and mint. Bright and pure on entry, offering pretty red berry and floral flavors complicated by white pepper. The finish features sweet, fine-grained tannins that coat the palate."
Gambero Rosso: "You can't say you know northern Piedmont until you have tried wines from Sella, the historic estate dating back to the 17th century. Bright and sophisticated, these are wines with a pure, deep style that perfectly reflects the diversity of the various zones. (2007)"

90 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The 2005 Lessona s a high-toned floral red laced with delicate berries, flowers and wild herbs framed by firm, yet well-balanced tannins. Here, too, the wine’s textural poise is superb. Sweet scents of tobacco, minerals and herbs linger on the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2015. (Oct 2009)"
80% Nebbiolo, 20% Vespolina. Aged for 24 months in large barrels. Made from grapes grown in various small old vineyards in the commune of Lessona. An aristocratically elegant Nebbiolo, yet also direct and attractive. About 1,250 cases produced.
