90 points Ian D'Agata (International Wine Cellar): "Pale, bright yellow. Lively aromas of green apple, thyme and white pepper are enlivened by a delicate minty quality. Very good Muller-Thurgau, with lovely inner-mouth aromatic character and flavors similar to the aromas. Finishes bright and clean; a little more fruit density and it would have merited an even higher score. Still, this is a very attractive wine; try it with something unusual, like buffalo mozzarella or pasta with mussels (sans tomato). (Sep/Oct 2011)"

91 points Wine Spectator: "A firm, fresh red, with a smoky baseline and balanced flavors of black cherry, damson plum, violet, polished oak and spice. This is structured by bright acidity and chewy tannins that come to the fore on the finish. Best from 2013 through 2023. (10/15/11)"
91 points Ian D'Agata (International Wine Cellar): "Good deep ruby-red. Very ripe aromas of redcurrant and crushed rock, with a red berry liqueur-like nuance. Supple, lush and sweet, but with surprising acidity and a recurring mineral quality energizing the middle palate. Finishes with smooth tannins and very good length. This has the stuffing to age but also offers considerable upfront appeal. (Mar/Apr 2012)"

90 points and 'Top 100 Wine of 2011 (#60),' Wine Spectator: "[$20 list] This sleek, polished red offers juicy blackberry and black fruit flavors, backed by refined tannins and well-integrated acidity. Hard to stop sipping. Corvina Veronese, Rondinella and Sangiovese. Drink now through 2020. (10/31/11)"
89 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "[$20 list] The 2008 Palazzo Della Torre is striking in this vintage. It shows remarkable harmony in a tense, mineral-infused expression of fruit. Hints of licorice, tobacco, mocha and spices develop in the glass, adding further complexity and nuance. All of the elements flow gracefully to a finish layered with the essence of crushed rocks and flowers. This is an absolutely delicious wine from Allegrini. Palazzo della Torre is made with a partial ripasso technique in which 30% of the fruit is dried Amarone-style, while the other 70% is picked and vinified conventionally. Once again, Palazzo della Torre is one of the very finest values in Italian wine. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2020. (Feb 2012)"

90 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "(all nebbiolo) Ruby-red. Reticent aromas of roasted cherry, fresh herbs, brown spices and nutty oak... Fat, rich, broad and sweet, but not yet as filled in as the Larigi or La Villa bottlings. Showing its 14.9% alcohol today, not to mention its oak element. But this powerful wine is extremely backward today and more about earthy, nutty, herbal terroir than about primary fruit. Finishes with huge, ripe, furry tannins that will require patience. Three Glasses, Gambero Rosso: "La Villa, from barbera and nebbiolo, is equally extraordinary. Today, it is superior to the monovarietal nebbiolo Arborina, which requires further bottle age. (2002)"
91 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "(a blend of Nebbiolo and Barbera) Deep medium ruby. Slightly roasted yet pure aromas of black cherry, blueberry, licorice and mint. Rich, fat and broad on entry, then tighter and less sweet in the middle than the Larigi. Intense black cherry flavor is complicated on the very long, firm finish by notes of blackberry, bitter chocolate and espresso. Tannins are quite firm, in the style of the vintage. (Nov/Dec 2002)"

Three Glasses, Gambero Rosso (2013).
93 points and 'Cellar Selection,' Wine Enthusiast: "From Antinori’s Castello della Sala estate, this landmark white helped to shine the spotlight on Umbria’s untapped enological potential. A blend of Chardonnay and Grechetto, this is smooth, creamy, complex and long lasting. It offers a beautiful bouquet of vanilla, apricot, exotic fruit and honey, with a subtle touch of exotic spice. Alcohol 13%. (Oct 2012)"
Producer notes: "The wine is a straw yellow in color with greenish highlights and expresses intense aromas of white flowers mixed with notes of flint. On the palate, savory mineral sensations blend perfectly with toasty and citric notes. The 2010 Cervaro della Sala is marked by a long persistence and a mineral character and is headed for excellent evolution and aging ability over time."

91 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "[$35 list] The 2007 Chianti Classico Riserva Marchese Antinori is a fleshy, radiant wine graced with expressive dark red fruit. This is a fairly plush style for this bottling, no doubt owing to the personality of the vintage. I don’t quite see the delineation or structure of the superb 2006, but in exchange the 2007 is much more pleasing to drink young. Tobacco, sweet herbs, licorice and dark red cherries leave a very positive, lasting impression. The Marchese Antinori is predominantly Sangiovese, with a dollop of Cabernet Sauvignon from the estate’s vineyards in Peppoli, Badia a Passignano and Tignanello. The darker color and flavor profile and presence of Cabernet relative to the 100% Sangiovese Badia a Passignano Riserva makes the Marchese a baby Tignanello of sorts. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2020. (Aug 2011)"
90 points Wine Spectator: "[$35 list] Black cherry and black currant fruit paves the way in this red, with spice and leather accents adding depth. Bright and solid, yet remains elegant, with a lingering aftertaste of mineral and spice. Best from 2013 through 2020. (9/30/12)"
90 points James Suckling: "Beautiful aromas of flowers and berries, follow through to a full body and chewy tannins with a berry, woody finish. Best after 2011. (12/19/11)"

94 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "[$105 list] The 2009 Tignanello is quite beautiful. Cedar, graphite, sweet herbs, licorice and leather add complexity to a core of highly expressive red fruits. The 2009 impresses for its energy, drive and focus. Today, the 2009 comes across as slightly understated relative to many recent vintages, especially 2007 and 2008. There is a silkiness and polish that is reminiscent of the 2004. Tignanello is 75% Sangiovese, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc from vineyards in San Casciano Val di Pesa, one of the most evocative hillsides in all of Italy. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2029. (Jun 2012)"
93 points James Suckling: "Dried fruits and flowers on the nose. More roses than anything else. Full body, with light toffee, coffee and ginseng character. Light prunes too. Really enjoyable. A blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. Give it a year or two to soften. (8/29/12)"
92 points Wine Spectator: "[$105 list] Laced with black cherry, plum and spice flavors, this generous red firms up on the finish. Balanced, with accents of tobacco and black tea lingering. Best from 2014 through 2025. (10/15/12)"
92 points Ian D'Agata (International Wine Cellar): "(80% sangiovese, 15% cabernet sauvignon and 5% cabernet franc): Bright red-ruby. Ripe aromas of sweet red cherries macerated in alcohol, cedar, cinnamon and pepper. Suave and seamless, with soft, almost-overripe flavors of redcurrant jam, red plum syrup, stewed red plum and tobacco leaf. A very distinctive and much creamier than usual Tignanello, finishing with supple tannins and excellent length. Obviously the product of a warmer year, and though this outstanding Tignanello is a touch less refined than some recent standout vintages, it's hard to argue with its sweet, soft style and early drinking appeal. No need to cellar this too long. (Sep 2012)"

90 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The 2009 Villa Antinori is a pretty, mid-weight wine laced with dark red berries, flowers and sweet spices. Nothing in particular stands out, just the wine’s lovely depth, balance and overall sense of harmony. This is a fabulous wine for the money. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2016. (Jun 2012)"

Producer notes: "55% Sangiovese, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 5% Syrah. The wine is ruby red in color with intense aromas of cherries, mint, and, particularly, chocolate. On the palate the wine is ample in body, supple and with velvety and soft tannins, long and savory."

There is plenty of 2008 vibrancy and freshness in the glass. This is a terrific showing from Antoniolo, and a great introduction to Gattinara. The 2008 is also unusually polished for this wine. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2018. (Oct 2012)"
Two Glasses, Gambero Rosso: "For the last 15 years, Alberto Antoniolo has been the tireless creator of distinctive Gattinaras that have breathed new life not only into this designation but also the entire wine production of the area... 93 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino is a gorgeous wine laced with red cherries, tobacco, cedar and underbrush, all supported by a firm tannic spine. Argiano’s 2006 Brunello shows beautiful inner perfume and the structure to develop positively for a number of years. Floral notes appear on the vibrant, polished finish. The estate’s Brunello spent 12 months in French oak (which is mostly felt in the wine’s textural richness) and completed its aging in cask. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. (May 2011)"
92 points Wine Spectator: "[$66 list] Rich, with a glycerol feel to the texture, showing plum, cherry, tobacco and black tea notes, all backed by a solid structure. The acidity and tannins shore this up as the finish glides on. Best from 2013 through 2025. 1,000 cases made. (4/20/11)"
92 points James Suckling: "What a nose with perfumes, blueberries and blackberries. Very perfumed. Full body, with fine tannins and a bright acidity. Love the silky texture to the wine. Wonderfully polished texture. Best after 2013. (1/15/11)"
92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Argiano offers an elegant aromatic combination of red fruit, spicy barbecue and polished mineral. This unique expression delivers a toned, streamlined mouthfeel that will not overwhelm the pasta or meat dishes it is paired with. (Apr 2011)"
18.5/20 points Stephen Brook (The World of Fine Wine): "(14% ABV) Rich black-cherry nose, with a hint of licorice. Rich and quite dense, with good weight of fruit and imposing tannins. This is somber and a bit grippy, but initial charm is not a prerequisite of good Brunello. The concentration is formidable, but it doesn't seem heavy-handed or overextracted. There's sufficient acidity to give the wine ageability, and the finish is surprisingly suave and seductive. Very long. (Issue #33; 2011)"

It shows lovely body and depth in a fresh, vinous style best suited for near-term drinking. Aging should not be a problem, as I imagine most bottles will be long gone by the time that is an issue. Jancis Robinson: "Bisceglia, Gudarrà 2008 Aglianico del Vulture is... made from another of my favourite grape varieties Aglianico and grown on the volcanic soils of Basilicata... It is also unusually mature for a wine in commercial circulation... Aglianico has a wonderful combination of structure and fruit, though it ripens late and can be grown only in relatively warm climates. The grapes for this wine were not picked until late October, and were picked by hand. After a 10-day fermentation, the wine was aged for 12 months in new barriques. Gudarrà, the name of their top bottling (which has won several three-glass awards in Italy), derives from a local word for 'enjoy', which chimes well with me... Alc 14.0%, TA 5.6g/l, pH 3.57, RS 2.0g/l... The 2008 is very dark and dramatic-looking and from the very first taste you know that a lot of that lovely summer sunshine is trapped in this bottle... this wine is already attractively mature and supple... I recommend that you take advantage of this well-priced wine that has a certain volcanic smokiness and real complexity about it. It carries its alcohol extremely well. A southern Italian for claret lovers? (6/22/12)"
Producer notes: "Gudarrà is deep ruby-red in color with enticing notes of red cherries, cassis, blackberries, sweet spice and a hint of licorice. This is an accessible, versatile red that pairs beautifully with southern Italian Pasta dishes, lamb, grilled or roasted game and ripe, flavorful cheeses."

90 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The last pristine example of the ’64 Borgogno Barolo Riserva offered up a complex and fully mature nose of cherries, camphor, forest floor, tar, anise and a bit of bonfire in the upper register. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep and tarry, with lovely complexity, good focus and still a bit of untamed tannin to resolve perking up the long finish. Like many of the Borgognos from this era, this is not the most elegant rendition of Barolo, but it is deep, complex and has matured nicely into a wine that offers up the blossoming of bottle age and is a good example of the vintage. 2009-2020+. 91 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino is a pretty, mid-weight offering graced with crushed flowers, dried cherries, spices and sweet herbs. Menthol, licorice and roses add complexity on the high-toned, feminine finish. Already pretty approachable, the estate’s 2006 Brunello looks to be an excellent choice for near and mid-term drinking. The Brunello spent 36 months in large Slavonian and French oak casks. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2024. (May 2011)"
16/20 points Andrew Jefford (The World of Fine Wine): "(14% ABV) Clear black-red. Graceful, enticing, and creamy, this is a Brunello of ballerina-like aromatic appeal, with lots of almost resinous lift over a softly sweet, almost chocolaty undertow. Deep, pure, long; engaging, concentrated, and focused. A wine of immense poise and charm, in which the aromatic constituents infuse the weight (medium-bodied, no more) of fruit in the mouth. A very assured performance and treacherously easy to drink. Not quite the heights of ambition, and there is a faint drying as the foot comes off the pedal at the end of the palate, but the bottles of this wine will provide immense pleasure over the next decade.
