Bastianich & Lynch (Vino Italiano: The Regional Wines of Italy): "One of the more hisotic Barolo estates and one of the larger landowners in the town of Barolo itself. Their traditionally styled Barolos are blended from a variety of cru sites. One of the house specialties is the occasional rerelease of older vintages culled from stocks set aside at the winery."

95 points James Suckling: "Aromas are full of plums and lemons that follow through to a full body, with silky tannins and a fruity, bright finish. A pretty combination of ripe fruit and crisp acidity. Need two years to come together. Triumph for the vintage. Try in 2013. (9/20/11)"

98 points James Suckling: "This will be in the market in 2012. This is full and rich with irresistible silky tannins. This brings more substance and richness than the white label. Lay this down until 2016. 10,000 bottles. (5/29/12)"
97 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The 2007 Barbaresco Riserva Asili is sweet, perfumed and totally gorgeous in its round, sensual fruit. Silky, elegant tannins frame the long, harmonious finish. Stylistically the 2007 is most similar to the 2004, although it seems to have more exuberant, opulent fruit. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2037. (Feb 2011)"
97 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "Good deep red. Very ripe aromas of red cherry, black raspberry, rose petal and flint. Huge yet magically light on its feet, with Musigny-like flavors of red fruits, flowers and pungent minerals. Wonderfully sweet and deep wine with great sap and floral lift; I find this considerably less medicinal than the normale Very much like a great Burgundy but with even more energy. The alcohol here is about 14% and the pH is 3.45. (Nov/Dec 2009)"

4 stars (Highly Recommended), 17.5/20 points Decanter: "Pretty blueberry, black cherry, jam and liquorice on the nose. Slightly earthy palate with a good structure of natural acidity and tannins at the end. It has a delicate tar and liquorice finish. Elegant. Drink: 2012-2017. Alc: 14%. (Apr 2012)"
John Gilman (View From the Cellar) on Giacosa's Barbaresco Santa Stefano di Nieve: "Bruno Giacosa’s Santa Stefano is perhaps his most famous and highly sought after bottling of Barbaresco. The Giacosa cellars are located in the northeastern Barbaresco town of Nieve, and their name is intimately associated with that of village’s most famous vineyard, Santa Stefano. However the entirety of this eight and a half hectare vineyard is owned by the Castello di Nieve, who are fine Barbaresco producers in their own right, and Bruno Giacosa has always made this wine from purchased grapes. The two producers have had a long-term contract for Bruno Giacosa to purchase grapes from Santa Stefano since the early 1960s. Castello di Nieve have always been content to sell off some of their grape production to Signore Giacosa, and no doubt the association of the name of Giacosa with Santa Stefano has helped to highlight the quality of this vineyard. This was the first vineyard that Bruno Giacosa decided to bottle on its own in 1964, and for that reason it occupies a very important place in the history of Barbaresco. The commune of Nieve is known for producing the most powerful and broadshouldered examples of Barbaresco in the region, with the soils here a bit denser and containing more clay than next door in the commune of Barbaresco itself. Aldo Vacca notes that soil of Santa Stefano shares the deep vein of limestone that is found in the ridge that contains Asili and Rabajà, but with more clay and calcium, so that the wines are more powerful and a bit more coarse and tannic out of the blocks. (Jan/Feb 2007)"
