91 points Wine Spectator: "A firm, fresh red, with a smoky baseline and balanced flavors of black cherry, damson plum, violet, polished oak and spice. This is structured by bright acidity and chewy tannins that come to the fore on the finish. Best from 2013 through 2023. (10/15/11)"
91 points Ian D'Agata (International Wine Cellar): "Good deep ruby-red. Very ripe aromas of redcurrant and crushed rock, with a red berry liqueur-like nuance. Supple, lush and sweet, but with surprising acidity and a recurring mineral quality energizing the middle palate. Finishes with smooth tannins and very good length. This has the stuffing to age but also offers considerable upfront appeal. (Mar/Apr 2012)"

Three Glasses, Gambero Rosso (2013).
92 points Wine Spectator: "[$85 list] Ripe, sweet fruit flavors of damson plum and black cherry mix with lively acidity and accents of date, spice box, mineral and fresh earth, while layered tannins add muscle to this elegant red. Drink now through 2025. (9/30/12)"
92 points Wine Enthusiast: "[$85 list] One of the founding members of the prestigious Amarone Families association who focus on safeguarding the unique winemaking traditions of Valpolicella, Allegrini sets the standard for a new generation of vintners. This opens with sweet tones of Indian spice, ripe fruit and tobacco. The mouthfeel is exceedingly rich, long lasting and intense. Alcohol 15.5%. (Nov 2012)"

90 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "(all nebbiolo) Ruby-red. Reticent aromas of roasted cherry, fresh herbs, brown spices and nutty oak... Fat, rich, broad and sweet, but not yet as filled in as the Larigi or La Villa bottlings. Showing its 14.9% alcohol today, not to mention its oak element. But this powerful wine is extremely backward today and more about earthy, nutty, herbal terroir than about primary fruit. Finishes with huge, ripe, furry tannins that will require patience. Three Glasses, Gambero Rosso: "La Villa, from barbera and nebbiolo, is equally extraordinary. Today, it is superior to the monovarietal nebbiolo Arborina, which requires further bottle age. (2002)"
91 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "(a blend of Nebbiolo and Barbera) Deep medium ruby. Slightly roasted yet pure aromas of black cherry, blueberry, licorice and mint. Rich, fat and broad on entry, then tighter and less sweet in the middle than the Larigi. Intense black cherry flavor is complicated on the very long, firm finish by notes of blackberry, bitter chocolate and espresso. Tannins are quite firm, in the style of the vintage. (Nov/Dec 2002)"

95 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "[$99 list] Antinori’s 2007 Tignanello is wonderfully ripe and seductive in its dark cherries, flowers, spices, tobacco, sage, cedar, mint and minerals. This is as opulent a Tignanello as I have ever tasted but there is just enough acidity and structure from the Sangiovese to keep things from going over the top. The wine’s richness and warmth are such that in a blind tasting I mistook the 2007 Tignanello for a wine from Maremma! The dense, muscular fruit follows through to an impeccable finish with no hard edges and impossibly fine, silky tannins. Simply put, the 2007 is a magnificent Tignanello. The 2007 Tignanello is 80% Sangiovese aged in 300-liter French oak barrels (1/3 new), 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc, both aged in 100% new 225-liter French oak barriques. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2027. (5/11/10)"
92 points Wine Spectator: "[$99 list] Displays sweet plum and berry aromas and flavors, with hints of toasty oak and cappuccino. Full-bodied, yet reserved and fine. Turns chewy and juicy. Best after 2012. (10/31/10)"
91 points Ian D'Agata (International Wine Cellar): "Bright, medium ruby-red. Musky black fruits, cedar, graphite and minerals on the cabernet-dominated nose. Broad and lush in the mouth, conveying a full-bodied, weighty impression but also plenty of energy to the flavors of blackcurrant, tobacco and cedar. Finishes very long and smooth, with extremely fine-grained tannins. (Sep/Oct 2010)"

Three Glasses, Gambero Rosso (2013).
94 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "[$105 list] The 2009 Tignanello is quite beautiful. Cedar, graphite, sweet herbs, licorice and leather add complexity to a core of highly expressive red fruits. The 2009 impresses for its energy, drive and focus. Today, the 2009 comes across as slightly understated relative to many recent vintages, especially 2007 and 2008. There is a silkiness and polish that is reminiscent of the 2004. Tignanello is 75% Sangiovese, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc from vineyards in San Casciano Val di Pesa, one of the most evocative hillsides in all of Italy. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2029. (Jun 2012)"
93 points James Suckling: "Dried fruits and flowers on the nose. More roses than anything else. Full body, with light toffee, coffee and ginseng character. Light prunes too. Really enjoyable. A blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. Give it a year or two to soften. (8/29/12)"
92 points Wine Spectator: "[$105 list] Laced with black cherry, plum and spice flavors, this generous red firms up on the finish. Balanced, with accents of tobacco and black tea lingering. Best from 2014 through 2025. (10/15/12)"
92 points Ian D'Agata (International Wine Cellar): "(80% sangiovese, 15% cabernet sauvignon and 5% cabernet franc): Bright red-ruby. Ripe aromas of sweet red cherries macerated in alcohol, cedar, cinnamon and pepper. Suave and seamless, with soft, almost-overripe flavors of redcurrant jam, red plum syrup, stewed red plum and tobacco leaf. A very distinctive and much creamier than usual Tignanello, finishing with supple tannins and excellent length. Obviously the product of a warmer year, and though this outstanding Tignanello is a touch less refined than some recent standout vintages, it's hard to argue with its sweet, soft style and early drinking appeal. No need to cellar this too long. (Sep 2012)"

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Named after one of the most beautiful stone castles in Europe, Poggio alle Mura is a dark and compelling wine that shows a clean quality, a fresh mouthfeel and excellent length. Beautiful fruit intensity with cherry, blackberry, spice, leather and tobacco describe the bouquet. Good aging potential. Alcohol 14.5%. (May 2012)"
92 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino Poggio alle Mura blasts across the palate with a heady array of black cherries, camphor, licorice and spices. The wine possesses gorgeous depth and inner sweetness in a plush, inviting style with plenty of early appeal. An explosive finish rounds things out in style. The Poggio alle Mura was aged in 350-liter barrels. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025. (Apr 2012)"
92 points Wine Spectator: "This lush red is full of sweet plum, cherry, cedar and tea notes, getting support from dense, ripe tannins. The result is a balanced combination of sweet fruit and spice elements on the prolonged finish. Best from 2014 through 2027. (9/30/12)"

97 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The 2007 Sammarco is a showstopper. A dazzling bouquet leads to layers of rich dark fruit in this superb, racy wine. The tannins are all about finesse. This isn’t a blockbuster Sammarco, but rather it is a wine that impresses for its sexy personality and fabulous overall balance. Goes on for a long, long time. So juicy and fruity. Hints of bitter lemon rind. Give this two or three years more of bottle age. (1/25/12)"
93 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino Pianrosso is fresher, more floral and more delineated than the straight Brunello bottling. There is plenty of Ciacci depth and muscle in the glass. Layers of dark red fruit, crushed flowers, licorice and spices wrap around the intense, deep finish. This is a huge wine with tons of 2007 Castelnuovo character, but also with enough freshness to balance out the wine’s more extroverted leanings. The 2007 is a big improvement over the 2006, which remains an underachiever relative to Ciacci’s historical track record of excellence. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2027. (Apr 2012)"
92 points Wine Spectator: "[$76 list] A mix of cherry, strawberry, earth, iron and dried beef aromas and flavors make this complex in a lighter style. Balanced between the fruit, moderate acidity and tannins. Very elegant. Best from 2014 through 2028. (6/6/12)"

At once silky and perfumed, with outstanding depth and 3-D texture for a 2006. The explosive back end shows superb tannic force and outstanding length. Should make a Barolo classic. (Oct/Nov 2011)"
93 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "[$130 list] The 2006 Barolo Aeroplan Servaj is a new Barolo from Clerico. The vineyard is in Badarina, just opposite Cascina Francia in Serralunga. This is the first opportunity readers will have to taste a Barolo from Serralunga by Clerico, a grower whose wines have always been virtually inseparable for their connection to Monforte. The Aeroplan Servaj is a beautiful, sensual wine graced with exquisite layers of dark, perfumed fruit. This is a decidedly elegant, feminine Barolo from Serralunga that, while beautiful, only captures a fraction of what this vineyard is ultimately capable of. Clerico and his team faced significant challenges when they took over the farming of the vineyard in 2006, down to being threatened at gunpoint by the owner when he saw how much fruit was being dropped in the vineyard! Based on the future vintages I have tasted in barrel, Aeroplan Servaj is a work in progress moving in the right direction. The wine’s colorful name, ‘wild airplane’ is a nickname given to the young, rambunctious Clerico by his father. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2026. (Feb 2011)"

This is a beautifully defined, sculpted wine of the very highest level. Tar, smoke and licorice linger on the finish. The tannins are massive at this stage, and the wine needs time, but the 2005 is undoubtedly one of the stars of the vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2030. (Apr 2009)"
95 points Wine Spectator: "Perfumed and aromatic, with fresh ripe strawberry and toasty oak. Full-bodied, with focused, chewy tannins and loads of wood and jammy fruit. Powerful. Needs time. Best after 2013. 1,500 cases made. (7/31/09)"
Three Glasses Gambero Rosso: "Once again, Barolo Ciabot Mentin Ginestra '05, which comes from the long-standing Clerico plot, shows itself to be truly outstanding. It has complex, caressing aromas of flowers and peach. It's still a little tight on the palate because of its extreme youth. It needs a few more years but it promises great things. (2010)"

98 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The 2007 Barolo Ciabot Mentin is one of the greatest wines I have ever tasted at this address. Deep, sensual layers of fruit flow from the glass as this full-throttle, intense Barolo reveals its profound, breathtaking personality. The 2007 shows tons of Ginestra nuance, but with extra dimensions to the fruit that literally covers every nook and cranny of the palate. Tasting this next to the 2006 is quite a comparison, as both wines are fabulous. Readers who can should be sure to own bottles of both. A side-by-side comparison is sure to be fascinating as the wines develop over the coming years. Astute readers will note the slight name change here, which is the result of new regulations that require the use of the historic vineyard name, in this case Ginestra, or a proprietary name. Call me nostalgic, but it is sad to see one of the iconic labels in Barolo disappear. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2027. (Feb 2011)"

This deeply scented, layered Barolo possesses a striking bouquet of spices, tobacco, graphite, dark cherries and new leather that come together in a breathtaking display of elegance and power that is hard to fully capture in words. The tannins are, as usual, quite broad but they are also remarkably fine. In 2005 the Pajana shows breathtaking balance and harmony with a long, sensual finish. This is a superb effort from Domenico Clerico, and his team led by the mega-talented Massimo Conterno. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025. (Apr 2009)"
95 points Wine Spectator: "Delivers ripe fruit, with lots of raisin and red licorice character on the nose and palate. 96 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "[$100 list] The 2006 Barolo Pajana reveals incredible aromatic complexity and intensity, something this particular site isn’t always capable of. There is lovely definition to be found as this classic feeling, mid-weight Pajana opens up in the glass. Layers of ripe dark fruit, spices, flowers, licorice and minerals develop seamlessly through to the close. I am floored by the wine’s volume, depth and length. Quite simply, this is a magnificent effort from Clerico. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2031. (Feb 2010)"
93 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "Good full red-ruby. Knockout nose offers dark cherry, strawberry, dried flowers, cedar, tobacco, leather and musky spices. Silky and sweet on entry, then powerful in the middle, with a firm spine of acidity giving lift and cut to the wine's red fruit, tobacco and dried flower flavors. Offers a compelling balance of stuffing and energy, and has the sheer fruit extract to buffer its ripe tannins. This really spreads out to saturate the palate, and is riper and more harmonious than the 2005 bottling. (Nov/Dec 2009)"
93 points Wine Spectator: "A rough and tumble red, full of cherry, floral, strawberry, menthol and spice flavors. The tannins are assertive, dominating the finish, but this shows persistence and a long, mineral aftertaste. Best from 2014 through 2032. 333 cases imported. (1/5/11)"

Three Glasses, Gambero Rosso.: "Vigna del Gris sailed into our finals... due to the form displayed by the wine at that precise moment in time. It has everything you could wish from a great Barolo: finesse, power, complexity, length and close-woven tannins. (2009)"
93 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "[$109 list] Conterno-Fantino's 2004 Barolo Vigna del Gris offers an enticing array of floral aromatics that lead to sensations of candied cherries, small red fruits, spices and marzipan. With air, this sensual, feminine Barolo opens to reveal notable inner perfume and superb length. As is usually the case, the wine doesn-t quite have the stuffing to balance its tannins and it does dry out just a bit on the finish, but it is nevertheless a gorgeous, gorgeous wine. In 2004 Vigna del Gris contains fruit from both old vines and a recently re-planted section of the vineyard. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2019. I have long enjoyed the Conterno-Fantino Barolos but in recent years Claudio Conterno and Guido Fantino have taken their wines to an entirely new level. These Barolos can often be massively structured and difficult to evaluate at an early stage yet the 2004s have incredibly sweet, ripe tannins that makes them a pure joy to taste. Simply put, this is a superb collection of 2004. (Dec 2007)"
93 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "(Fantino controls these vines next to Ginestra but hasn't yet completed their purchase) Good full red. Wonderful floral precision to the aromas of wild red fruits, mocha and smoky oak. Sweet, pure and primary, with terrific definition to the fruit-driven flavors of cherry and raspberry. Enticing floral, truffle and mineral notes add complexity to this classy wine. Finishes with lush, fine-grained tannins and terrific building length. (Nov/Dec 2007)"
92 points Wine Spectator: "Rose petal, lavender and ripe fruit aromas follow through to a full body, with chewy tannins and a medium finish. Has slightly austere tannins, but very good ripe fruit. Best after 2011. 1,245 cases made. (6/15/08)"

94 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The 2003 Barolo Cascina Francia is a remarkable wine for the vintage. This deep, powerful Barolo reveals awesome richness and an almost liqueur-like quality to its fruit that is balanced by the chalky mineral notes that provide freshness on the finish and help convey an impression of notable balance. In 2003 there is no Monfortino, and the Cascina Francia surely benefits from the addition of that juice which is mostly felt in the wine’s depth. Resisting the temptation to harvest too early, Roberto Conterno waited until October 8 to start picking in his Cascina Francia vineyard, long after most producers had already brought the fruit in. He had the benefit of the late September rains that helped restore at least a little freshness to the fruit, and as a result his 2003 Cascina Francia doesn’t have the aggressive tannins that plague so many wines. Simply put, this is a stunning Barolo made all the more notable by the challenging conditions the vintage presented. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2023. This is another set of superb releases from Giacomo Conterno one of the bastions of traditionally made Barolos. While Conterno’s wines have often been profound, in recent vintages the estate has found another level of finesse that was sometimes missing in the wines. It is hard to say if that is because of a general trend towards warmer vintages, the estate’s focus on making just three wines, or small improvements in vineyard and cellar work, but the fact remains that over the past few vintages Roberto Conterno has produced the best and most consistently outstanding wines in his venerable firm’s long history. The wines he has in barrel amply confirm this very positive trend. (Oct 2007)"
90-94 points Fine Wine Review: "I tasted the 2003 Barolo, Cascina Francia, as well as the Monfortino that will be blended into it prior to bottling in 2007. The wines showed beautiful finesse with depth, a chewy texture, and violets. (Issue #113; 2006)"
Gambero Rosso: "Cascina Francia is back after a year's absence and despite the sweltering growing season is in excellent shape. Notes of violet mingle with nuances of thyme, tobacco and leather. (2008)"

Last of the magnificent six is the superlative Veccie Vigne, a lovely, rich garnet wine that has yet to express its full range of aromas. It is positively explosive on the palate, where it parades potent, juicy tannins, rich fruitiness and fabulous balance. (2004)"
92 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "Oaky aromas of black raspberry, currant and menthol; this called to mind a young California cabernet. Big, sweet and sappy, with deep, creamy flavors of black cherry and menthol. Very young and very long, finishing with powerful, chewy, chocolatey tannins. Loads of potential here. (Nov/Dec 2002)"

91 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "[$150 list] Romano Dal Forno’s 2006 Valpolicella Superiore is dark, rich and powerful. Firm yet well-integrated tannins frame black cherries, mocha, licorice and spices in this deep, broad-shouldered wine. The 2006 boasts tons of depth and richness in a sophisticated, sleek style. I was quite surprised to see the 2006 drink well with just a few hours of air. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2018. (Feb 2012)"
91 points Wine Spectator: "Lightly chewy tannins and aromatic subnotes of pencil shavings, dried thyme and smoke support flavors of candied cherry, licorice string, dried cranberry and bresaola. This is supple overall, and the tannins provide modest structure to the creamy finish. Best from 2014 through 2022. 200 cases imported. (6/15/12)"

94 points Wine Spectator: "There's a glimpse of fleshy black cherry and plum fruit before the aggressive tannins force this wine into shut-down mode. This stays dense and chewy through the finish, which echoes the black fruit and leaves a spicy impression. Best from 2015 through 2035. 600 cases imported. (11/30/11)"
93 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The 2007 Barolo Cannubi is easily the most elegant and refined of these 2007 Baroli from Damilano. It shows fabulous site character in its crushed rose petals, sweet red berries and spices. The vintage has given the Cannubi an extra measure of textural richness and body, without robbing it of what is a very classic aromatic and flavor profile. The Cannubi continues to gain volume in the glass, showing more and more fleshiness with time. The wine can be enjoyed now, but it will be even better in a few years once some of the baby fat drops off. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2022. (Oct 2011)"
92 points Wine Enthusiast: "[$90 list] From one of Italy’s greatest vineyard designations, this Cannubi Barolo shows all the beauty and elegance that makes Piedmont a wine region celebrated and envied around the world. The 2007 edition of the wine is particularly soft and ripe with plush cherry and pipe tobacco aromas followed by a smooth, velvety finish. (Sep 2011)"

95 points and 'Top 100 Italian Wines in 2012,' James Suckling: "This is a big step up in quality for Damilano, who now controls the most vineyards in the great Cannubi -- about 11 hectares. Sensual aromas of dried flowers, sweet fruits and chocolate follow through to a full body, with fine tannins and a delicious finish. Very fine indeed. Chewy. Better in 2015. (7/19/12)"
92 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The 2008 Barolo Cannubi emerges from the glass with freshly cut roses, sweet raspberries and spices, all supported by French oak. It is a very pretty, attractive wine with plenty of vineyard character and personality. The Cannubi is also the most feminine of the 2008s I tasted from Damilano. A silky, refined finish rounds things out in style. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2026. (Apr 2012)"
