Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a long, rich and flavorful finish. Love the cocoa, berry and light vanilla bean aftertaste. This is always classic in an outstanding year. Best from 2010 through 2015. 1,500 cases made. (2009)"
93 points Wine Enthusiast: "[$135 list] We preferred Altesino's base Brunello to its cru selection from the estate's special 10-acre vineyard--but only by the smallest of margins. Montosoli is a tremendous wine with impressive intensity and staying power that takes shape as cherry, tobacco, spice and bursting blueberry. Drink from 2010 through 2020. (Jun 2009)"
92 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The estate’s 2004 Brunello di Montalcino Montosoli is a big, strapping wine loaded with dark fruit, smoke, new leather and minerals. The Montosoli, from one of Montalcino’s top sites, shows considerable density and richness. The tannins build on the finish, rounding out a gorgeous Brunello that achieves a brilliant combination of power and elegance. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2022. (Jun 2009)"

Two Glasses, Gambero Rosso: "Barolo Gattera, from vines an average of 70 years old, aged for 30 months in 15 to 20-hectolitre barrels and has a spectacular fruit-lifted nose of rose and violet-led florality. The austere palate has sweet but beefy tannins, good flesh and a lingering finiish. (2009)"

97 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The 2004 Barolo Percristina sweeps across the palate with masses of silky, dense fruit framed by firm, yet almost impossibly elegant tannins. This is an utterly captivating Barolo for its sheer power, richness and opulence. Despite the wine’s size, there is plenty of detail and nuance to explore in this utterly sensual, captivating Percristina. Readers lucky enough to find the 2004 Percristina should not hesitate, it is superb! Anticipated maturity: 2014-2029. (Feb 2010)"
97 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "Good deep red. Knockout nose combines red fruits, rose petal, brown spices and camphor, with a slight medicinal reserve. Pure, silky and sweet, offering incredible subtle intensity of flavor. This coats every millimeter of the palate without leaving any impression of weight, thanks to a steely spine that gives it great energy and snap. Wonderfully juicy, imploded wine with a broad, suave, extremely long finish. The locals prize the 2001 version of this wine (rated 95+?), but I give the edge to this vintage for its sheer verve. (Nov/Dec 2009)"

Three Glasses, Gambero Rosso.: "Vigna del Gris sailed into our finals... due to the form displayed by the wine at that precise moment in time. It has everything you could wish from a great Barolo: finesse, power, complexity, length and close-woven tannins. (2009)"
93 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "[$109 list] Conterno-Fantino's 2004 Barolo Vigna del Gris offers an enticing array of floral aromatics that lead to sensations of candied cherries, small red fruits, spices and marzipan. With air, this sensual, feminine Barolo opens to reveal notable inner perfume and superb length. As is usually the case, the wine doesn-t quite have the stuffing to balance its tannins and it does dry out just a bit on the finish, but it is nevertheless a gorgeous, gorgeous wine. In 2004 Vigna del Gris contains fruit from both old vines and a recently re-planted section of the vineyard. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2019. I have long enjoyed the Conterno-Fantino Barolos but in recent years Claudio Conterno and Guido Fantino have taken their wines to an entirely new level. These Barolos can often be massively structured and difficult to evaluate at an early stage yet the 2004s have incredibly sweet, ripe tannins that makes them a pure joy to taste. Simply put, this is a superb collection of 2004. (Dec 2007)"
93 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "(Fantino controls these vines next to Ginestra but hasn't yet completed their purchase) Good full red. Wonderful floral precision to the aromas of wild red fruits, mocha and smoky oak. Sweet, pure and primary, with terrific definition to the fruit-driven flavors of cherry and raspberry. Enticing floral, truffle and mineral notes add complexity to this classy wine. Finishes with lush, fine-grained tannins and terrific building length. (Nov/Dec 2007)"
92 points Wine Spectator: "Rose petal, lavender and ripe fruit aromas follow through to a full body, with chewy tannins and a medium finish. Has slightly austere tannins, but very good ripe fruit. Best after 2011. 1,245 cases made. (6/15/08)"

Three Glasses, Gambero Rosso: "Barolo Cascina Francia 2004... has a generously spacious bouquet, combining austerity and fruit on the palate, and judiciously balancing the tannins with acidity to provide a flavoursome finish that reprises the aromas. (2009)"
97 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The 2004 Barolo Cascina Francia is an explosive wine that faithfully captures all of the promise it showed from barrel. This spectacularly rich, concentrated Barolo possesses striking perfume in its smoke, tar, spiced red fruits, licorice and flowers. The wine offers tremendous length and a finish that lasts forever. This is an especially dense, powerful Cascina Francia with a gorgeous core of perfumed sweet fruit that will require some time to fully emerge but is breathtakingly beautiful even at this early stage. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2029. (Dec 2007)"
95 points Wine News: "Intense floral nose with earthy notes of mint and licorice. Rich flavors of mouthwatering strawberry and cherry, powerfully structured and neatly balanced with vibrant tannins. Closes on clean mineral note. Very impressive. Best after 2012. (Oct/Nov 2008)"
91-94 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "Good full red. Reduced, musky nose dominated by pungent dried herbs. Then suave and firm on the palate but silky, with a distinctly sappy quality to the dark fruit, mineral, floral and graphite flavors. The cooler herbal note carries through in the mouth, giving this young wine real lift. Lush in texture without being really fat, with the very pure finishing flavors mounting impressively. (Nov/Dec 2007)"

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "[$75 list] Thick, dark and beautifully concentrated, this is a dense, succulent wine with a soft, velvety feel that will appeal to those who like this style. The aromas are layered and penetrating and span the gamut of black fruit to smoky spice. Drink this Brunello now through 2015. (Jun 2009)"

Three Glasses, Gambero Rosso: "As in every edition, the Barbaresco Sorì Burdin is the flagship label, even more so in the 2004 version. This elegant, well-made wine best delivers all the potential of nebbiolo grown in this perfectly suited location. In fact, our tasters had no hesitation in awarding Three Glasses. (2008)"
92 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "I remember visiting Fontanabianca and proprietor Aldo Pola as his 2004 Barbarescos were fermenting right after the harvest. The perfumes emanating from the winery were heavenly. Pola’s 2004 Barbaresco Sori Burdin has turned out beautifully. It is a big, authoritative Barbaresco loaded with super-ripe red fruit, macerated cherries, menthol, minerals, flowers and spices. Endowed with notable weight and a layered texture, it offers outstanding concentration and fine, well-integrated tannins. This is a terrific effort from Fontanabianca. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2019. (Oct 2007)"
91 points Wine Spectator: "Has very floral aromas of fresh rose, raspberry, blackberry and strawberry. Full-bodied, with fine tannins and bright acidity. Long and caressing. A balanced red. Not obvious. Best after 2011. 350 cases made. (12/15/07)"

(Use Promo Code: CAMPOLEONE)
Three Glasses, Gambero Rosso: "Lamborghini's Campoleone, a sangiovese-merlot blend from the Trasimeno hills, is a wine of pedigree which, like all thoroughbreds, can perform erratically. There's genius on the one hand and decadence on the other. When the year is right, the wine has few equals and goes beyond being impressive to take you by storm, and sometimes even knock you sideways... The '04 Campoleone is a deep ruby colour. The nose has extreme complexity and refinement, with small red and black berry fruit, nuances of new oak and swaths of balsam, all of which continually alternate and intermingle, to glorious effect. The palate is full of flesh, showing vibrant and deeply fruity, with a superb tannic weave. It has a clear stamp of Bordeaux about it. (2007)"
92 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The 2004 Campoleone, the estate’s signature wine, is simply gorgeous. This blend of equal parts Sangiovese and Merlot spent 12 months in French oak. It is a firmly structured wine with superb density on the palate, where layers of tobacco, dark cherries, earthiness, smoke, licorice and toasted oak all come to life. The tannins finish slightly dry and astringent, likely a result of an overly exuberant use of French oak. Still, this is a beautifully delineated, focused Campoleone. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2022. (Feb 2008)"

96 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The 2004 Barolo Le Vigne is a phenomenal effort. Sweet, long and pure, it reveals an expansive core of perfumed ripe red fruit, flowers and spices. Despite its notable concentration it is made in a restrained style, showing remarkable elegance as well as harmony, with superb length and finessed tannins on the close. Le Vigne is made from the Ceretta, Vignane, Merli and Conterni vineyards. I have tasted the wines from these plots separately on many occasions. Curiously, I have never been particularly impressed by any of the wines on their own, yet when they are blended the results can be extraordinary, as is the case with the sublime 2004 Le Vigne. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2019. Luciano Sandrone has been ecstatic about the quality of his 2004s since I first tasted the wines with him in the winter of that year. While 2004 is a superb vintage overall, Sandrone's wines stand out, most notably for their extraordinary elegance. (Dec 2007)"
94 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "Good full ruby-red. Explosive, vibrant aromas of blackberry, sandalwood and musky tobacco. A very suave, juicy wine with superb cut to its black plum, blackberry and licorice flavors. Hardly an outsized wine, but its sappy acidity and smooth, broad tannins give this elegant Barolo excellent structural support. (Nov/Dec 2007)"
94 points Wine Spectator: "Aromas of dried rose, with plum and violet. Full-bodied, with fine yet big tannins and a long, caressing finish. Dense and structured. A serious young red. Strong. This is still just a baby. Best after 2012. 1,200 cases made. (6/15/08)"

97 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The 2004 Brunello di Montalcino is a huge, dense wine that explodes from the glass with tar, smoke, earthiness black cherries and minerals. The wine possesses dazzling concentration and tons of richness, as waves of fruit coat the palate in stunning style. This big, dramatic Brunello needs time in bottle, but it is nothing short of magnificent today. The balance, and the integration of the French oak in particular, is brilliant. For those who are curious to try a bottle now, the wine should be opened a few hours in advance as the tannins are imposing at this stage. This is a rare Brunello of superb pedigree and complexity. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2029. (Jun 2009)"
95 points Wine Spectator: "Perfumed with rose and ripe cherry. Full-bodied, with bright acidity and clean, mineral, floral and berry character on the palate. Tight and firm, but shows wonderful promise. This is chewy and develops in the glass. Best from 2011 through 2017. 3,400 cases made. (4/30/09)"
93 points Wine Enthusiast: "This wine sparked wide debate at the Brunello en primeur tasting because of its new, more streamlined style. Siro Pacenti's 2004 Brunello is not the concentrated blackberry and chocolate fudge bomb of the past. It's still a meaty, layered wine laced with pretty layers of spice, mineral and ash. But instead of black concentration, it now exhibits ruby luminosity and a fresh, monthol finish. We are impressed. (Jun 2009)"
17/20 points The World of Fine Wine: "Very bright color and fresh, lively fruit on the nose, with good acid/fruit balance on palate. Fine-tuned and long, it should age well. 2010-25. (Issue #27; 2010)"
Bastianich & Lynch (Vino Italiano Buying Guide): "Giancarlo Pacenti's small production is best described as opulent: you get the rich extract, the rich new oak, all the bells and whistles... and it works. Irresitable Brunello that's worth the price..."

96 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "[$292 list] Voerzio’s 2004 Barolo Rocche dell’Annunziata/Torriglione is a stunning effort. It bursts from the glass with soaring aromatics that lead to a beautifully articulated core of red fruit, sweet spices and mint that is buttressed by finessed, silky tannins that caress the palate. This long, pure Barolo combines the feminine qualities of Cerequio with the structure of Brunate in a compelling, breathtaking glass of wine. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. (Dec 2007)"
