90 points Ian D'Agata (International Wine Cellar): "Pale, bright yellow. Lively aromas of green apple, thyme and white pepper are enlivened by a delicate minty quality. Very good Muller-Thurgau, with lovely inner-mouth aromatic character and flavors similar to the aromas. Finishes bright and clean; a little more fruit density and it would have merited an even higher score. Still, this is a very attractive wine; try it with something unusual, like buffalo mozzarella or pasta with mussels (sans tomato). (Sep/Oct 2011)"

If you want proof that Dolcetto is not 'the Beaujolais of Italy,' pour yourself a glass of Anna Maria Abbona's Maioli, which is 100% Dolcetto. The wine is violet-tinged deep purple, a very inviting color; it smells of violets, Assam tealeaves, and blueberries; and it is a mouth-filling, deep, substantial wine to drink. 'Una bomba,' as they say in Italy, and an excellent food wine; it goes with many red meat dishes, grilled sausages, cheese... The fruit comes from very old vines planted in the '30s by Anna Maria's uncle. The wine is fermented and aged in stainless steel.

91 points Ian D'Agata (International Wine Cellar): "Good deep ruby-red. Very ripe aromas of redcurrant and crushed rock, with a red berry liqueur-like nuance. Supple, lush and sweet, but with surprising acidity and a recurring mineral quality energizing the middle palate. Finishes with smooth tannins and very good length. This has the stuffing to age but also offers considerable upfront appeal. (Mar/Apr 2012)"

90 points and 'Top 100 Wine of 2011 (#60),' Wine Spectator: "[$20 list] This sleek, polished red offers juicy blackberry and black fruit flavors, backed by refined tannins and well-integrated acidity. Hard to stop sipping. Corvina Veronese, Rondinella and Sangiovese. Drink now through 2020. (10/31/11)"
89 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "[$20 list] The 2008 Palazzo Della Torre is striking in this vintage. It shows remarkable harmony in a tense, mineral-infused expression of fruit. Hints of licorice, tobacco, mocha and spices develop in the glass, adding further complexity and nuance. All of the elements flow gracefully to a finish layered with the essence of crushed rocks and flowers. This is an absolutely delicious wine from Allegrini. Palazzo della Torre is made with a partial ripasso technique in which 30% of the fruit is dried Amarone-style, while the other 70% is picked and vinified conventionally. Once again, Palazzo della Torre is one of the very finest values in Italian wine. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2020. (Feb 2012)"

Producer notes: "Brilliant straw yellow with a green shimmer. Quite pronounced and expressive aroma with flowery and somewhat spicy notes. Rich flavored in the mouth, with a slight smokiness at the back and a good, fresh finish. When properly cellared, this will drink well for 2 to 4 years. Suggested food: starters (both fish or meat), pâtés and terrines, fish and shellfish, poultry, white meat and mushrooms. Alcohol 13.0%."
Not yet reviewed; 2010 vintage rated 88 points by International Wine Cellar: "Straw-yellow with a golden tinge. Musky aromas of peach and pear are lifted by an herbal topnote. Broad, rich and almost sweet, with some residual sugar conferring a smooth, supple mouthfeel. The orchard fruit flavors are less intense than the aromas on the medium-long finish."

90 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "(all nebbiolo) Ruby-red. Reticent aromas of roasted cherry, fresh herbs, brown spices and nutty oak... Fat, rich, broad and sweet, but not yet as filled in as the Larigi or La Villa bottlings. Showing its 14.9% alcohol today, not to mention its oak element. But this powerful wine is extremely backward today and more about earthy, nutty, herbal terroir than about primary fruit. Finishes with huge, ripe, furry tannins that will require patience. Rich, fat and broad on entry, then tighter and less sweet in the middle than the Larigi. Intense black cherry flavor is complicated on the very long, firm finish by notes of blackberry, bitter chocolate and espresso. Tannins are quite firm, in the style of the vintage. (Nov/Dec 2002)"

Best from 2010 through 2015. 1,500 cases made. (2009)"
93 points Wine Enthusiast: "[$135 list] We preferred Altesino's base Brunello to its cru selection from the estate's special 10-acre vineyard--but only by the smallest of margins. 92 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The estate’s 2004 Brunello di Montalcino Montosoli is a big, strapping wine loaded with dark fruit, smoke, new leather and minerals. The Montosoli, from one of Montalcino’s top sites, shows considerable density and richness. A blend of Chardonnay and Grechetto, this is smooth, creamy, complex and long lasting. It offers a beautiful bouquet of vanilla, apricot, exotic fruit and honey, with a subtle touch of exotic spice. Alcohol 13%. (Oct 2012)"
Producer notes: "The wine is a straw yellow in color with greenish highlights and expresses intense aromas of white flowers mixed with notes of flint. On the palate, savory mineral sensations blend perfectly with toasty and citric notes. The 2010 Cervaro della Sala is marked by a long persistence and a mineral character and is headed for excellent evolution and aging ability over time."

91 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "[$35 list] The 2007 Chianti Classico Riserva Marchese Antinori is a fleshy, radiant wine graced with expressive dark red fruit. This is a fairly plush style for this bottling, no doubt owing to the personality of the vintage. I don’t quite see the delineation or structure of the superb 2006, but in exchange the 2007 is much more pleasing to drink young. Tobacco, sweet herbs, licorice and dark red cherries leave a very positive, lasting impression. The Marchese Antinori is predominantly Sangiovese, with a dollop of Cabernet Sauvignon from the estate’s vineyards in Peppoli, Badia a Passignano and Tignanello. The darker color and flavor profile and presence of Cabernet relative to the 100% Sangiovese Badia a Passignano Riserva makes the Marchese a baby Tignanello of sorts. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2020. (Aug 2011)"
90 points Wine Spectator: "[$35 list] Black cherry and black currant fruit paves the way in this red, with spice and leather accents adding depth. Bright and solid, yet remains elegant, with a lingering aftertaste of mineral and spice. Best from 2013 through 2020. (9/30/12)"

Producer notes: "Crafted from 90% Sangiovese and 10% Merlot, the 2010 Villa Antinori Chianti Classico Riserva is intense ruby red in color with fruit and spice aromas. Light touches from the oak aging underscore the cherry and red berry notes that are typical of the Sangiovese grape. 98 points and 'Cellar Selection,' Wine Enthusiast: "This is a landmark wine from a landmark vintage. The blend is Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, which results in a generous, striking and unforgettable product. The bouquet is elegant and toned, with aromas of dark fruit, tobacco and chocolate. The mouthfeel is tight and firm, and it boasts persistence and impressive balance. It has all of the qualities required for long-term aging, so keep this for 10 years or more. (Apr 2013)"

Full-bodied, with soft and round tannins and a long, long finish. It goes on for minutes. Now just a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Better after 2015. (8/29/12)"
94 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The 2009 Bolgheri Superiore Guado al Tasso impresses for its richness and sheer power. Mocha, sweet spices, plums, blackberries and herbs wrap around the palate as this intense wine shows off its pedigree. Layers of flavor build to the deep, intensely satisfying finish. The 2009 is complete and harmonious from the very first taste. In 2009 the blend is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2029. (Jun 2012)"
Producer notes: "60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot. On the nose the initial balsamic sensations are followed by aromas of ripe fruit and spices, on the palate is velvety, with soft tannins and much finesse. The finish and aftertaste are well supported by savory mineral notes and much length and persistence."

Santa Cristina was originally introduced in 1946 asa Chianti Classico by Piero Antinori’s father, Niccolò. However, with the passage of the 1984 DOCG laws - spearheaded by Piero Antinori- requiring lower vineyard yields, Chianti Classico grapes became so complex and rich that they required more aging than this fruity fresh wine should have to maintain its style and character. Therefore, with the 1987 vintage Santa Cristina moved away from the Chianti Classico designation, and with the 1994 vintage Antinori began including 10% Merlot to the blend to add soft, open fruit nuances to the wine.

'Wine of the Week,' Las Vegas Review-Journal: "Grechetto 60%, Procanico 40%. In the glass: Santa Cristina Bianco is a fine, pale almost clear citrine-yellow color with a star-bright core going out into a very faint, nearly glass-clear meniscus with medium viscosity. On the nose: Fresh, crisp and tangy are things that immediately spring to mind here for this highly aromatic wine, with lots of zippy kiwi, pomelo and general citrus zest; also white currants, crushed cloudberries, hints of honeysuckle and orange blossom, then zucchini flowers and crushed fine granite for minerality. On the palate: It is very aromatic as it hits the center palate with loads of zesty pears, citrus rind, Granny Smith apples and excellent acidity to carry that backbone in the wine right through the relatively soft and supple midpalate into a finish that is chock-full of vibrant white currants, stone fruit and kiwi crush with just a touch of minerality. It is entirely clean and crisp to the end. Odds and ends: The Antinori family has been making wine in Tuscany for more than six centuries in an unbroken line of 26 generations since 1385. I think it is fair to say that this qualifies them to know how to make great wine. And yet the family was one of a handful of great winemakers that knew a modern approach was needed for Italian wine to succeed worldwide. The Antinori portfolio now counts a tremendous lineup of great wines, not just from Italy, but also Napa Valley, Chile and Hungary, to name a few. It is a dynamic, engaged and globetrotting winemaking family that excels at their craft. They're also some of the nicest people in the business. From their top legendary wine Solaia right down to this delicious and superb spring white wine, it's all great... a fabulous alternative to pinot grigio and sauvignon blanc. Drink it with sauteed shrimp scampi or a seafood salad. The wine is good now through 2014."
Producer notes: "Straw yellow in color, the wine is intense and complex in aroma with notes of bergamots, orange flowers, and sweet spices such as cinnamon. On the palate it is soft and savory, with a return of the aromatic notes of the nose on the finish and aftertaste. Grape varieties: Principally Grechetto and Procanico."

97 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The 2007 Solaia saturates the palate with a heady array of super-ripe black cherries, plums, cassis, mocha and sweet French oak. There is an exotic quality to the Solaia I find totally irresistible. Despite its considerable ripeness and opulence, the 2007 Solaia is never heavy, rather it impresses for its extraordinary finesse and balance. Minerals, graphite and crushed rocks frame a long, seductive finish. This is a wonderful Solaia loaded with vintage and vineyard character. The 2007 Solaia is 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Sangiovese and 5% Cabernet Franc, aged in 100% new oak. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2027. (Oct 2010)"
94 points Wine Spectator: "A racy wine that offers so much currant and blackberry character. Full and very silky. Goes on and on. Fascinating. Best after 2012. (10/31/10)"
94 points Ian D'Agata (International Wine Cellar): "(14% alcohol) Fully saturated inky ruby. Knockout nose of blackcurrant, mocha, coffee and nutty oak, plus strong soil tones of tobacco and herbs. Wonderfully ripe and full but with a sappy menthol lift to the utterly pure, drop-dead gorgeous flavors of blackcurrant, tobacco and minerals. Compared to the 2007 Tignanello, which currently comes across as a baby Solaia, this has more of everything, especially including sweetness and flesh. One of the better versions of Solaia of the last decade: it offers plenty of upfront charm and fleshy creaminess, but it may not prove to be as long-lived as the 2004 or the 2006. (Sep/Oct 2010)"
Three Glasses, Gambero Rosso: "Three Glasses again for the Solaia. This blend, based on cabernet sauvignon and sangiovese with a dash of cabernet franc, offers echoes of currants and strawberries on the nose with subtly fresh, clean vegetal hints. The dynamic palate and already relaxed tannins reflect a style that favours elegance and allure, leading to a long, dry finish. (2011)"

97 points and 'Cellar Selection,' Wine Enthusiast: "Definitely on a top 10 list of Italian icons, Solaia affirms the massive potential of Italian winemaking, from vineyard to cantina to cellar and beyond. Superrich and polished, but never over the top, this gorgeous super Tuscan shows deep layers of chocolate, black cherry, rum cake and spice. The secret lies in its balance: Everything is in place, from intensity and complexity to persistency. (May 2012)"
93 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The 2008 Solaia is richer and darker than the Tignanello, but it isn’t an appreciably more complex or complete wine. It shows gorgeous depth and textural richness to match an expressive core of blackberry jam, smoke, scorched earth, crushed rocks and cassis. This is a beautiful wine, but not as great as I had hoped. The 2008 Solaia is 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Sangiovese and 5% Cabernet Franc, aged in 100% new oak. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. 95 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "[$99 list] Antinori’s 2007 Tignanello is wonderfully ripe and seductive in its dark cherries, flowers, spices, tobacco, sage, cedar, mint and minerals. This is as opulent a Tignanello as I have ever tasted but there is just enough acidity and structure from the Sangiovese to keep things from going over the top. The wine’s richness and warmth are such that in a blind tasting I mistook the 2007 Tignanello for a wine from Maremma! The dense, muscular fruit follows through to an impeccable finish with no hard edges and impossibly fine, silky tannins. Simply put, the 2007 is a magnificent Tignanello. The 2007 Tignanello is 80% Sangiovese aged in 300-liter French oak barrels (1/3 new), 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc, both aged in 100% new 225-liter French oak barriques. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2027. (5/11/10)"
92 points Wine Spectator: "[$99 list] Displays sweet plum and berry aromas and flavors, with hints of toasty oak and cappuccino. Full-bodied, yet reserved and fine. Turns chewy and juicy. Best after 2012. (10/31/10)"
91 points Ian D'Agata (International Wine Cellar): "Bright, medium ruby-red. Musky black fruits, cedar, graphite and minerals on the cabernet-dominated nose. Broad and lush in the mouth, conveying a full-bodied, weighty impression but also plenty of energy to the flavors of blackcurrant, tobacco and cedar. Finishes very long and smooth, with extremely fine-grained tannins. (Sep/Oct 2010)"

94 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "[$105 list] The 2009 Tignanello is quite beautiful. Cedar, graphite, sweet herbs, licorice and leather add complexity to a core of highly expressive red fruits. The 2009 impresses for its energy, drive and focus. Today, the 2009 comes across as slightly understated relative to many recent vintages, especially 2007 and 2008. There is a silkiness and polish that is reminiscent of the 2004. Tignanello is 75% Sangiovese, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc from vineyards in San Casciano Val di Pesa, one of the most evocative hillsides in all of Italy. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2029. (Jun 2012)"
93 points James Suckling: "Dried fruits and flowers on the nose. More roses than anything else. Full body, with light toffee, coffee and ginseng character. Light prunes too. Really enjoyable. A blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. Give it a year or two to soften. (8/29/12)"
92 points Wine Spectator: "[$105 list] Laced with black cherry, plum and spice flavors, this generous red firms up on the finish. Balanced, with accents of tobacco and black tea lingering. Best from 2014 through 2025. (10/15/12)"
92 points Ian D'Agata (International Wine Cellar): "(80% sangiovese, 15% cabernet sauvignon and 5% cabernet franc): Bright red-ruby. Ripe aromas of sweet red cherries macerated in alcohol, cedar, cinnamon and pepper. Suave and seamless, with soft, almost-overripe flavors of redcurrant jam, red plum syrup, stewed red plum and tobacco leaf. A very distinctive and much creamier than usual Tignanello, finishing with supple tannins and excellent length. Obviously the product of a warmer year, and though this outstanding Tignanello is a touch less refined than some recent standout vintages, it's hard to argue with its sweet, soft style and early drinking appeal. No need to cellar this too long. (Sep 2012)"

'Best Buy' and 86 points Wine Enthusiast: "Warm notes of raw, jammy fruit and moderate spice emerge from the nose. This native variety usually shows aromas of cherry, pistachio and almond and these very characteristics are evident here. Alcohol 13.5%. (Mar 2011)"

90 points Wine Spectator: "A touch gamy and earthy in aroma, turning to pure cherry and raspberry flavors on the palate. Dense yet smooth, with a lingering aftertaste of berry and mineral. Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot. Best from 2013 through 2020. Smart Buys. (9/30/12)"
Producer notes: "50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Syrah, 20% Merlot. Intense and deep red colour with purple reflexes. On the nose intense and fresh with flowery aromas of violets and balsamic hints combined to red fruit like cherries, plumbs and blackberries. The palate is round, complex with ripen and sweet tannins. Nice fruity aftertaste with good acidity, which offers a long lingering and fresh finish."
