The Argyros estate, located on Santorini, is one of the best wineries in Greece. Their Atlantis Red is an intensely colored red composed of 90% Mandilaria and 10% Mavrotragano. It is full-bodied with fine tannins, complex aromas of red fruit, and hints of prune and leather. Well structured and balanced, it has a velvety palate and a long finish. 12.5% alcohol. It will match beautifully with chicken, lamb and beef dishes.

90 points Mark Squires (Wine Advocate): "[$25 list] The 2008 Ramnista, a Xinomavro, is traditional and chock full of steel, tannin and acidity... Its hard edged, high acid, somewhat gamey and rustic demeanor won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but it is an exceptional performance in many respects from Kir-Yianni with fine depth, persistence and structure. It is a good example of the type of Xinomavro that I like to compare to old style Nebbiolo. It certainly requires the right type of food matchup... If it is in your style, it exceeds expectations in its price category and it should well reward cellaring, becoming more complex and coming together better over the next decade or so. Theoretically approachable, depending on your tolerance for tannins and rusticity, this will most certainly be better around 2015 or so. If you are a modern style wine drinker, with everything soft, sweet, fruity and approachable on release, this isn’t going to be your style of wine. Otherwise, at the anticipated shelf price, this stern and steely wine should be a nice, ageworthy bargain. Drink 2014-2027. (Apr 2012)"
Producer notes: "100% Xinomavro. A wine with a rich and complex aromatic profile, elevated acidity and robust tannins creating a long finish. Its concentrated bouquet of sun-dried tomato, red fruit and praline when young, evolves into black olive, leather, earth and truffle, with a balanced acidity and softer tannins. A perfect match to lamb and game, the 2008 Ramnista can age gracefully up to 15 years."

89 points Mark Squires (Wine Advocate): "The 2008 Agiorgitiko was aged for 8 months in French oak (2nd and 3rd pass only). This is a bit compact, quite elegant in the mid-palate, but it is pure, velvety and lovely, with a notable backbone. There is a little oak, but that should integrate. It won’t immediately be a 'wow' wine, but I predict it will grow on you as it grew on me. It was better after an hour or so. Fragrant, crisp and intensely flavorful, this Agiorgitiko has some nods to Burgundy, given its graceful presentation, aromatics and structure. It finishes well and should be a crowd pleaser, making everyone from novices to geeks happy. It is a good follow up to the ‘07, perhaps a bit steelier. Note: This is an appellation Nemea wine; Greek custom is normally to just call an appellation Agiorgitiko simply 'Nemea,' but since the label clearly indicates Agiorgitiko and calling it Nemea merely duplicates our appellation field in the subject headline, I’ve retained the Agiorgitiko name here. Drink now-2018. (Jun 2012)"

Young farmer and oenologist, Christos Zafeirakis, obtained valuable work experience in Northern Italy, before returning to Greece to produce his own wine. The thick-skinned Limniona variety has a remarkable resistance to oxidization, so it is suited to long-term ageing. The grapes were initially fermented in a large wooden vat and then aged in second and third fill French oak barriques. Vivid medium-dark color. Blossoms into a fruited spice and a hint of herbs. Creamy, classy and lacey, and despite a hot vintage, presents refreshing acidity.
