93+ points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The 2009 Brücke Gold Kap is a beautiful bottle of gently botrytized Auslese glazed to near perfection. The stunning nose jumps from the glass in a blend of yellow plums, tangerines, petrol, honeycomb, slate, white cherries and a zesty topnote of orange zest. On the palate the wine is deep, fullish, crisp and laser-like in its focus, with great mid-palate depth, flawless focus and balance and superb complexity on the long, snappy finish. A classic bottle of Auslese in the making. 2018-2050. (Mar/Apr 2010)"

96 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "Amongst the four brilliant Spätlesen that I tasted in 2009 from Helmut Dönnhoff, the Hermannshöhle is the pick of the litter this year. The wine offers up a brilliantly crystalline bouquet of sweet grapefruit, orange, a touch of wild yeasts, simply stunning minerality, citrus zest, dried flowers and just a brief glimpse of the petrol to come with bottle age. On the palate the wine is deep, medium-full and extremely long and dancing, with a great core, laser-like focus and magical length and grip on the seamless and utterly refined finish. A great, great wine. 2015-2040. (Mar/Apr 2010)"

94 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The 2009 Brücke Spätlese is also stunning, as it offers up a complex and scintillating nose of oranges, fresh apricot, a touch of honeycomb, complex notes of slate, lime zest, petrol and a topnote of citrus blossoms. On the palate the wine is medium-full, long, pure and utterly classic, with a rock solid core of fruit, perfect focus and balance and stunning cut and purity on the racy and very, very long finish. A brilliant bottle of Brücke Spätlese. 2015-2040. (Mar/Apr 2010)"

89+ points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "This is another Ortsweine, and it is lovely in 2009. The nose offers up a fine and complex blend of pineapple, lemon, just a touch of sea salts, white flowers, slate, lemon zest and just a whiff of petrol in the upper register. On the palate the wine is medium-full, crisp and beautifully based in its slate soil tones, with lovely poise, fine mid-palate depth and great cut and bounce on the long and classy finish. There seems to be a bit more dimension here from the lower yields required for wine at the Ortsweine level, and this makes for a very exciting combination with the great aromatic complexity of this bottling. Impressive. 2010-2020+. (Mar/Apr 2010)"

Producer notes: "The Brauneberger Rieslings come from the selective early vintage of Brauneberger top locations. Kabinett wines have a distinct mineral and slatey character from the steep slopes. They are characterised by their lightness, freshness and delicacy. They go with a very wide variety of foods: fish, white meat or fresh, crispy salads. Asian or slightly spicy cuisine (off-dry and residually sweet Kabinett) is also complemented by these wines. Kabinett with natural sweetness of fruit is an invigorating, every day wine, which also has excellent maturing potential."
Not yet reviewed; 2008 vintage rated 92 points by Fine Wine Review: "In the fruity style, the Brauneberger Kabinett is pure, crystalline, mineral, juicy, and nervy with incipient apricot fruit that is rainwater clear. 8.0% stated alcohol. (Issue #127; 2010)"

On the palate there is yellow peach, orange oil and strawberry. The fruit is of a sappier quality than the Kabinett, yielding a riper, more exotically styled Riesling, while a crystalline pure character is maintained.

Importer notes: "Selected from a very small 1 hectare site (~ 2.5 acres), the wine is very forward with succulent juiciness, typical for this site, but also characteristic of the showy 2009 vintage. With intense physiological ripeness for a Kabinett, strawberry, white peach and pineapple fruit flood the palate before razor sharp currents of lemon / lime citrus drive the finish. A stunning Kabinett for the money."

Not yet reviewed; 2008 vintage rated 92 points by Wine Spectator: "Displays plenty of orange and nectarine aromas and flavors, with spice notes to match. Lime and slate flavors emerge by the finish, making this complex, layered and concentrated. Still, this stays light and fresh. Drink now through 2022. 500 cases made. (2010)"

93 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The two Spätlesen from the Felseneck came this year from the very steepest section of the vineyard and was not harvested until the span between November 10th to the 15th, and is a beautifully delicate, dancing bottle in the making. The bouquet is deep and very pure, as it offers up scents of pear, white cherry, lovely slate tones, bee pollen, citrus zest and spring flowers. On the palate the wine is medium-full, long and very, very pure, with great refinement and elegance, lovely mid-palate depth and plenty of crisp acidity on the long, filigreed and again, simply dancing finish. This is my kind of Spätlese! 2010-2035. (Mar/Apr 2010)"

Importer notes: "We’re beginning to sound like a broken record when it comes to speaking about Dr. F.
Weins-Prüm, and Mr. Bert Selbach -- but Bert’s responsible -- this man has been on a role for several vintages now, and 2009 is no exception to that rule. His Rieslings in 2009 are flat out amazing. Bert loves 2009, and feels the wines are quite similar to his excellent 2005 collection, only these ‘09s have better acidity. That’s saying a lot, because the 2005 Dr. F. Weins-Prüm collection was very, very good. These are truly rare, limited production wines, and we hope Riesling fans seek them out this year, because his 2009s are very special.
Kabinett Graacher Domprobst: In the nose there are aromas of white peach, earth and stones. On the palate the fruit just inflates and explodes -- the amount of volume in this Kabinett is almost mind bending -- and it’s 'just' a Kabinett. It is so bright and so pure, the ripeness is truly breathtaking. There are flavors of spiced white peach, red fruit, cassis and pineapple."

Spätlese Wehlener Sonnenuhr: More reserved in the nose than the Graacher, with faint and delicate whiffs of slate and pear. On the palate the Wehlener is the more refined and studious - the older sibling from Stanford if you will - while the Graacher is the young wild child from Chico State. They’re related, but stylistically they are totally different."
