89 points Fine Wine Review: "Becker is at the south end of the Pfalz, and indeed, many of his vineyards are in Alsace, although they are allowed to be labeled as German wine. The whites can be good, but the real specialty is Pinot Noir, for which Becker is one of the handful of top German producers. The Spätburgunder (labelled as Pinot Noir in the U.S.) has strawberry fruit in both nose and mouth that is very fresh. The wine is medium-weight, silky in texture, and shows some minerality. It was raised in large barrels and barriques with a 40-day maceration, entirely destemmed. (Issue 131; 2011)"
Importer notes: "This fruity and elegant Pinot Noir is grown in the southern Pfalz region just north of Alsac, around the German-French border on limestone soil perfectly suited to Pinot Noir. Alcohol 13.0%."

87 points Fine Wine Review: "A new entrant in the U.S. market is the Gewürztraminer. It is from 15-18 year old vines planted on deep red soils from the plateau above the Rothenberg vineyard in the Engelsberg vineyard. The wine is quite floral in the nose with roses that are typical of Gewürztraminer. In the mouth, the wine is dry, restrained, and spicy with good supporting acidity. Drink 2009-2012. 12.5% stated alcohol. (Issue #122; 2008)"

89 points Fine Wine Review: "The Kabinett Jean-Baptiste off-dry is from the Pettenthal, Hipping, and Ölberg vineyards in Nierstein with a little bit of Nackenheim Rothenberg mixed in. The wine shows some smokiness in the nose and is round with some sweetness, minerality, and clarity in the mouth and again some smokiness on the finish. (Issue #131/132; 2011)"
Rudi Wiest Selections: "The wine offers a wonderful nose of grapefruit and lemonade; it is so fresh and bright. On the palate the wine has excellent weight and texture for a Kabinett, but still allows the rich clay and fine slate mineral details to show through. A lovely bottle of Kabinett, and we feel it could be the best 'Jean Baptiste' Gunderloch's made to date."

88 points David Schildknecht (Wine Advocate): "[$21 list] Surprisingly, given what’s typical chez Kauer, not to mention given the character of the vintage, his 2010 Bacharacher Kloster Furstental Riesling Kabinett trocken reached 11.9% alcohol. He didn’t, however, think its sense of ripeness merited the designation 'Spatlese' and I wouldn’t disagree. Wet stone and saliva-stimulating salinity accent flavors of lemon, winter squash and pear. The sense of stuffing here is considerable, which might be one reason why the wine avoids any sense of tartness or bifurcation such as one finds with many of its vintage, and even a hint of milkiness is not disturbing. This ought to perform well for several years. (Dec 2011)"

Terry Theise: "(discernable but not obtrusive sweetness) CORE-LIST WINE. It showed a green catty aroma that recalled what I’ve come to think of as the ladybug smell. What’s below it is good, if a little tannic; I allowed for a freshly-bottled wine, but this is one to watch warily if hopefully, I’d say. I’ll taste it again when you do, in late June."
89 points Wine Spectator: "Bright and tangy, featuring a juicy core of apple and citrus flavors supported by fresh acidity, with notes of lemon cake showing on the minerally finish. Drink now through 2027. 68 cases imported. (2012)"
89 points Fine Wine Review: "The Wehlener Sonnenuhr Kabinett is round and broad, showing some slate/stone/lemon flavors, but it lacks the penetration of better wines. 9.0% stated alcohol. (Issue #138; 2013)"

87 points David Schildknecht (Wine Advocate): "From Bernkastel fruit, the Haut-Kerpen 2008 Riesling trocken Blauschiefer is bright and juicy, with smoky, nutty piquancy, and even at 12% alcohol it manages to seem light on its feet while possessed of a fine sense of stuffing. I would plan to enjoy it over the next 2-3 years. 'If you’d asked me 25 years ago,' says Martin Kerpen, 'who has the best vines in Wehlen? I’d have answered ‘Haut-Kerpen’', and four years ago he purchased that estate, which will continue to inform a line of wines independent of the Kerpen estate. (Feb 2010)"

Terry Theise: "(discernable but not obtrusive sweetness) CORE-LIST WINE. Around 90º Oechsle, homeopathic chaptalization, very late picked and pure single-site Drachenstein; the wine is exceptionally delineated and kinetic (thanks maybe to its 9.2g/l acidity); it lunges across the palate to a pithy firm core or mineral and licorice and a vivid dry bite, into a kirsch-y grappa-ish finish. Length is double-take striking."
88 points Wine Spectator: "[$19 list] Fruity, showing touches of richness, with plenty of honeyed notes to the peach, ripe apple and pear tart flavors. Cream and spice notes envelop the finish. Drink now through 2015. (4/30/13)"

Terry Theise: "(discernable but not obtrusive sweetness) What a charming vintage here! This is pure cox orange pippins, nothing sultry at all; beaming white-nectarine and an exceptionally fine caramel savor into the finish. This isn’t about slatey tension, it’s about fruit."

87 points Fine Wine Review: "Given some airing, Salwey’s entry-level Spätburgunder is most attractive with silkiness to the texture and minerality to the red fruits. 13% stated alcohol. (Issue #138; 2013)"
Producer notes: "The 2010 vintage delivered extremely small berries and led to intensely colored and fruity wines. In addition to the typical notes of red currant, this wine presetns nice acidity and minerality. For us these factors make the 2010 vintage one of exceptional quality. This estate wine is an unobtrusive but classic Pinot Noir that enriches light meat dishes and/or bread and cheese. Alcohol 13.0%."

89 points Fine Wine Review: "Lemberger, known in Austria as Frankisch, produces wines that to my taste very closely resemble Cabernet Franc from the Loire Valley. The delicious Lemberger** has spiced dark berry fruit in nose and mouth with medium weight and round tannins. There’s a touch of sucrosity here, so the wine is better with food than on its own. I’d drink it over the next 4-5 years and slightly cool. 13% stated alcohol. (Issue #127; 2010)"

88 points Wine Enthusiast: "[$21 list] This wine starts off a bit funky and earthy on the nose, but opens up to reveal more floral and lime-like scents. At 13% alcohol, it’s medium bodied and impressively dry tasting, with lime blossom and pineapple fruit balanced by crisp acids. Drink now. (Mar 2011)"
88 points Fine Wine Review: "The Bingen trocken is from a fascinating corner, where Nahe meets Rheinhessen, with Rheingau immediately across the river, and Mittelrhein just a little bit up the road. The wine is crisp and crystalline with floral notes. There is some roundness here and the acidity is unobtrusive, although present. There is just a wisp of sweetness if you don’t serve the wine cold. The wine can be drunk now, but I think ideally will be held another 4-6 years. 13.0% stated alcohol. (Issues 131 & 132; 2011)"
Producer notes: "This dry riesling has a great structure with a long finish. ripe fruit aromas dominate and are rounded up with a great acidity which makes it a very food friendly wine. Alcohol: 13%. Acidity: 0.65% (6.5 g/l). Residual sugar: 0.33% (3.3 g/l)."

87+ points David Schildknecht (Wine Advocate): "Vollenweider's dry-tasting 2008 Riesling -- another first-time label-designation at this address, although in this year at least, it comes entirely from the Krower Steffensberg -- smells of pumpkin, yellow plum, sage, nettle and hints of wood smoke. Fresh lemon, tomatillo, and plum skin lend this invigoration, and despite 12% alcohol and a certain sense of substantiality, it exhibits vintage-typical buoyancy. This relatively water-retentive site promotes acid retention -- as strong vintage characteristic anyway -- even when harvested late and at high must weight, as here. I'd plan to enjoy it within 3 years, and it may come to terms more effectively with its acidity even in the short run. (Feb 2010)"

89 points David Schildknecht (Wine Advocate): "[$17 list] The von Buhl 2009 Riesling Maria Schneider -- this vintage representing an assemblage from several sites -- features kiwi, white peach, and sweet corn with a dusty crushed stone note as well as invigorating salinity in its finish. Twelve grams of residual sugar -- less than usual for this bottling -- suit it perfectly, amplifying the lusciousness of the fruit without engendering any sense of overt sweetness. Slim and refreshing yet with a fine sense of underlying extract and a subtly silken feel, this fine value represents the best installment of its cuvee that I can recall. Enjoy this over the next 3-4 years. (Feb 2011)"
88 points Wine Spectator: "[$17 list] There's a crisp citrus twist to the Bosc pear, apple and spice flavors, with good length on the firm finish. Drink now through 2014. (12/31/10)"
88 points Fine Wine Review: "The Maria Schneider medium dry is fruity but tastes relatively dry (12 g/l residual sugar here -- less than in the past). The wine is silky and mineral. (Issue #131/132; 2011)"
