Terry Theise: "(no discernable sweetness) Something I noticed with the ‘10s was how their acidities just burned away the sweetness... this is a serious wine and a serious departure from its norm, all sage and marjoram rather than cassis and elderflower. Zero botrytis yet over 90º (i.e., good Spät), salty and Sencha-like, with almost a GrüVe boxwoody note."

Terry Theise: "(no discernable sweetness) SOMMELIER ALERT! Less recherché than ‘10, less exotic than ‘08, a simple drink-the-living-f***-out-of-it quality; Clint says pink peppercorn and this is the shady balsam-y side. It goes to the party but is a little diffident, it hardly knows anyone, but when it sees you it bursts into an incandescent grin."

Pinot Gris is an uncommon varietal in Germany, but this version is brought to us by one of the most highly respected estates in Baden, one of the warmest German wine-growing regions. Compared to wines of this variety grown in Italy, France and the US, this version is rounder and softer, making in eminently drinkable and food-friendly. Aromas and flavors include the typical stone fruits such as peach, apricot and nectarine. Soft and inviting, yet bone-dry, this wine is quaffable, and with its 1-liter bottle and twist-off closure, it also presents an excellent bargain.

Joachim Heger has been awarded "Wine Producer of the Year 2013" by the Gault Millau editorial team. Editor-in-chief, Joel Payne, is full of praise: "He has been producing absolutely top quality white Pinots from the stunning Ihringer Winklerberg and the superb Achkarrer Schlossberg vineyard sites for decades. Now his Pinot Noirs have caught up with the Baden wine elite."

David Schildknecht (Wine Advocate): "Winter’s basic generic 2008 Riesling trocken -- bottled in liters for short-term enjoyment -- is low-toned and herbal in a manner that reminds me of the corresponding Silvaner. A sense of creaminess suggests a hint of malo-lactic transformation (though, as Winter notes, not by design) yet this still satisfies with an ample sense of refreshment. Furthermore, given its amazingly low price, it constitutes very good value. (Feb 2010)"
Bill Mayer (The Age of Riesling): "...Stefan says, bubbling over with enthusiasm, that it’s the best one he’s ever made, and he’s pretty trustworthy..."

Not yet reviewed; 2010 vintage rated 88 points by Fine Wine Review: "The Riesling trocken is mineral and dusty in the nose. The mouth shows a pure attack with apple fruit. The wine is crisp and medium-bodied, length is decent, and the wine is firm, but not hard."
